Money, Money, Money

October 21, 2020 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Okay, a couple of things are bothering me.

First, this is something I need to tell you about.  Jones Day law firm has been paid millions of dollars by the Trump campaign to keep Trump out of jail. Millions. You’d think they’d love Trump. That’s a lot of money. But ….

Lawyers at Jones Day, which has earned millions as outside counsel to U.S. President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign, have donated nearly $90,000 to the campaign committee of Trump’s Democratic rival Joe Biden. Contributions to the Trump campaign by Jones Day lawyers totaled just $50, records show.

Okay, so I’ll admit that most lawyers (at least the good ones) are Democrats because they’ve read the Constitution. But, these are lawyers who have Trump to thank for putting food on the table.  But, they are also the ones who know all Trump’s secrets but are bound by attorney/client privilege not to talk about it.  But, they know.

The other thing I find very telling is Lindsey Graham is clutching his pearls over Act Blue.  He wants Act Blue investigated because he simply does not believe that people give so many small donations like that. Democrats do that, Lindsey.

I’ve been watching fundraising for many years and what I’m fixing to tell you is the truth.  Republicans don’t donate. They don’t. They know their candidates get rich people money or corporate money so their $25 contribution might seem pathetic. So, they don’t donate.  I’m not jacking with you. Your Republican neighbor with the Trump yard sign more likely than not has never donated a damn dime to a candidate.

We Democrats think our $25 is big stuff when it’s combined with your $25 and Mary’s $25.  Let me tell you a true story about my friend Judy.  At the beginning of the election season, Judy sets aside $500. That’s what she can afford to spend. But instead of giving it to one candidate, she doles it out $25 at a time, maybe even $10. When some Republican says something that pisses her off, Judy sends their opponent $25.  “It’s like getting to punch them in the mouth,” she says.

That keeps Judy sane through the election season. She decided to work early voting because she already went through her $500 a month ago. Now, she’s got more money and more faces to punch.

Plus, look how those small contributions coming from all over the country have Lindsey headed for the faintin’ couch. You gotta feel good about that.

So, if you haven’t donated to Jamie Harrison yet, right now would be a real good time. And when the click the button, holler, “Hi, Lindsey!”

  1. have put a fair amount into Senate races. Go to 538 and check which races are close in other states and donate to them, too. GOP dark money is dumping $100 million into these races because they don’t want to waste more money on lost causes. Some suggestions AL, AK, GA, GA, IA, KS LA, MI MT NC, TX.

With majority requirement in GA, GA, LA there might be three Senate races going into overtime.

Juanita, Juanita, Juanita………I completely agree with the whole post, but you got me in a tither……”Lindsey Graham is clutching his pearls”. I’ve been accused of being a sick and twisted sumbitch at least twice in my life and I got this visual from that comment……YOU RUINT MY NAP.

Of Course I quickly slithered from Lindsey Lou “clutching” and veer into him “clutching” while wearing his favorite sundress for Garden Club meetings.

I SHOULDN”T SKIP MY NAP……Makes me think too much

I don’t use Act Blue. It requires an extra step (printing out the contributor’s declaration and a stamp) but 100% goes to the candidate and it doesn’t out me on every freakin’ junk mail list in the country.

I don’t know about you guys but the pleading emails I am getting from the Democrats would insult the intelligence of a garter snake.

  4. Laurel in California says:

If you really want your small donation to have an impact, look to some of the state legislature races. Flipping R-run legislatures in places like TX (YES! Go for it!) could have an especially big impact this year, as the reapportionment decisions will be coming from those state legislatures, unless, like CA, there is a special nonpartisan committee.

  5. When my wife and I got our combined $2400, we kept half in case our kids needed help, which they haven’t. I immediately got more generous with our local Dem candidates. As of yesterday when I sent (via ActBlue) $25 each to 6 senate candidates, KY, SC, ME, IA, GA, CO. Also chipped in to Beto’s Flip Texas Fund, Pelosi’s and Our Revolution. Just surpassed my $1200. I feel good about it and cautiously optimistic. If any of those Senate seats flip, I’ll take credit. But mostly I hope some early money helped our local candidates get up and running.

  6. I told those who would normally give me presents for Christmas that all I want is whatever sum they would have spent on me to give to any campaign that excites them–local or in some other state.

Meanwhile I donate all over the place in small amounts. Have to admit every time trump opens his mouth I reconfigure my household budget (menu planning has been upended with uncommon frequency) to give a small dollar donation. That keeps my old lady hermit existence just a bit less awful.

  7. We’re willing to work together, but we need to learn how to do that well.

The guys at the Crooked Media network (Pod Save America and other podcasts) have a progressive Senate fund called the Get Mitch or Die Trying fund. They promise to allocate the funds strategically to get the most advantage toward Democrats retaking control of the Senate. They have raised several million dollars through it. Their fund to support state legislative races is called F*ckGerrymandering, without the asterisk. Go to crooked.com and slide down to the bottom for the links. And try a podcast, they’ve kept me sane (-ish) since 2016.

“When some Republican says something that pisses her off, Judy sends their opponent $25. “It’s like getting to punch them in the mouth,” she says.”

Judy and I think exactly alike there, except -maybe- I imagine going somewhat beyond a simple punch …

  11. FrauFree @ 12,

Maybe he was looking for a hard drive?

    13
  12. Papa, you made me snort giggle. HARD drive? Hm. Not so sure.

    14
  13. What Judy has been doing is exactly what I’ve been doing. Every time one of the GOP SOBs pisses me off, I send another $25 to their Democratic rival. Several have gone to Jaime…every time that little weasel (you know the one) opens his whiny/hysterical mouth, I send another one. It’s incredibly satisfying.

That’s one advantage of COVID isolation…lots of unspent money to help our candidates.

  14. God bless all the Dem Judies out there!

  15. I listen to NPR all day every day. They’re playing the Judiciary Committee’s ACB coronation and I just had to turn it off. Listening to Lindsey Graham scold the Democrats and say, “they started it with Neil Gorsuch,” was not good for my blood pressure.

I’m now catching up on Heather Cox Richardson’s history of the Republican Party Facebook Live talks.

How low that party has sunk!

    17
  16. My little bride got a couple of Biden and MJ Hagar signs several weeks ago. They went missing. My little bride announced on NextDoor that she was getting 12 more Dem signs, and every time one went missing she was giving $25 to George Soros, Hillary Clinton, and #BLM. Day or two later the missing signs, dirty and cob-webby reappeared in our yard.

After the first signs went missing, I moved a video camera to the front of the house to record that side of the front yard.

The Republican neighbor on that side of our house was clearly visible half-a$$ed sticking the signs back from almost where they were taken. The next time I see him I gonna offer him a class in sticking stolen yard signs. I recollect when these folks went from being high profile local “Democrats” to being high profile local “Republicans”. I could think of names for that, but for now, I’m gonna call ’em brick-heads when I talk about em to other friends on the Facebook and such.

  17. Jane & PKM says:

Will Andy Beshear be appointing a replacement for Moscow Mitch? While old Mitch has never looked healthy, he’s appeared quite sickly of late. Beyond the hot camera lights or maybe morning bourbon on his Wheaties, he looked considerably more flushed and sweaty than usual. Now the internet is displaying shots of his hands looking worse than participating in fight night without gloves. Some say he has the ‘rona.

Dear sweet Lady Karma talk to us …

    19
  18. @Jane & PKM

“Don’t you think he looks tired?”

    20
  19. Done. Donated to Harrison. And donated to Amy McGrath.

    21
  20. Grandma Ada says:

I’m retired and I do like your friend Judy, dole it out $25 or $50 at a time. But each time I donate to oust a current legislator, I also email him to let him know I’m not happy and that I gave his opponent money; Sen. Cornyn has received several of these, as did Cruz in 2018. It’s the cherry on top of donating!

    22
  21. Jane & PKM says:

Micr, “tired” didn’t enter the list of adjectives I’d use to describe Moscow Mitch. Respect for Mama sort of prohibits some word choices. But yeah, Mitch is a tired old man; corrupt and evil, too. Tired might better describe how the rest of us feel about the way old Mitch has bullied the Senate. Damn tired. Until Moscow Mitch is either retired, or tried and convicted, he’s on “the list.”

  22. Buttermilk Sky says:

Jaime Harrison is flush with cash — that’s what Graham is complaining about. May I suggest you think of contributing to our candidates Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock? Two Democratic senators from Georgia would be awesome, especially after Perdue showed his true racist colors so proudly last week.

    24
  23. G Foresight says:

What Lindsey Graham is not capable of realizing is the amount of money sent to Jaime Harrison is an accurate measure of how many people in the USA simply cannot stomach Lindsey Graham.

I agree with Buttermilk Sky that sending some cash to Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock in the Georgia races has a good chance of being meaningful. The last polls I saw 1) Ossoff was tied with the Kamala Harris name-mocking, dRump-loving David Perdue and 2) Warnock was very slightly ahead (statistical tie?) of his competition.

  24. Harry Eagar says:

Papa @ 13. Too late. He’s already on record as impotent. The only national figure we know that about, AFAIK.

    26
  25. “He wants Act Blue investigated because he simply does not believe that people give so many small donations like that. Democrats do that, Lindsey. ”

I disagree. He want to punish Act Blue for helping his political opponents.

  26. WA Skeptic says:

I’m the only person with a “Biden/Harris” sign visible in my town. To keep it from disappearing I put it in a window that is highly visible. Talk about being a “t**d in a punchbowl!!!! I’ve never been the topic of so much conversation in my life, and that covers a lot of questionable behavior on my part.

    Go, Joe and Kamala!!!
