Let’s Count

The Hill has this Breaking New headline right now.

Oh wow, it sounds like Republicans are finally growing a pair and are willing to put it on the line to keep democracy.

Hold on. Not so fast.

The criticisms, in a series of tweets that didn’t mention Trump by name, came from Sen.Marco Rubio (Fla.), a former presidential rival of Trump four years ago, and Sen. Mitt Romney (Utah), the GOP’s presidential nominee in 2012.

There’s two, but neither of them want to be nailed down as supporting something the psychopath in the White House opposes, so that’s really like 1.4 when you add them together.

There’s more …

In the House there was Liz Cheney (if her daddy couldn’t be monarch, nobody can) and Steve Stiver from Ohio.  So, that’s two more.

And then there’s Lindsey Graham with the oddest answer of all.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), a Trump loyalist who is chairman of the Judiciary Committee, said on Fox News: “If Republicans lose we will accept the result. If the Supreme Court rules in favor of Joe Biden, I will accept that result.”

Holy damn cow. You mean after stacking the Supreme Court he’ll support whoever they pick?  Why the hell are we even voting?

So let’s see how many Republican lawmakers would stand up to Trump against breaking America.  I did my math and I got 3.4.  And then there’s Lindsey Graham who would throw gasoline on it.

I don’t feel better.

  1. 3.4 with approx. 1.5 spines between them.
    Typical.

  2. Seems like just more Republicon rat poisoning to suppress voter enthusiasm under their latest banner, “fuggedaboutit.” Hype up the notion that SCROTUS will be the decider of the election, so don’t bother to vote.

At a guess the percentage of Democrats who listen to this Republicon blather is infinitesimal. Schadenfreude would be a major backfire such that conservative voters are led to believe SCROTUS has “got this” such that they don’t bother to vote. As for ‘undecided’ voters? Seriously. Who are those people who cannot distinguish between democracy and fascism?

The f king moron sent out his pal Louie DeJoy to destroy the USPS. Meh. Have already checked out dates and times to hand deliver our ballots to a drop box.

We will vote and encourage 80+ million more to vote with us. Donnie was heartbroken in 2016 with his ~3 million popular vote loss. Let’s give him something to really cry about, a 30+ million popular vote loss in 2020.

  3. On the positive side, Republicans are publicly admitting, if not yet wholly accepting, that it looks like Trump will lose the election. Likely both the popular vote, and the Electoral College.

But it ain’t over until the fat malady concedes.

    3
  4. Without a doubt none of us will be completely relieved until we see the moving vans depart the WH with all of Donnie and Messy’s crap and the final departing list of Marine One on whichever side of the chopper the f king moron sits.

We’ll be blasting Icona Pop to celebrate! Central lyric: “I threw your shit into a bag and pushed it down the stairs”

  5. Grandma Ada says:

The GOP has proved they are all hypocritical liars. No need to pay attention to them, but watch his majesty like a hawk!

  6. Oh, goodness, people, Poor Donald is having a bad day. He got booed when “paying his respects” to RBG, and now his niece, Mary L Trump, is suing him, her aunt and her uncle’s estate, for stealing her inheritance while trying to avoid taxes on Fred Trump’s estate. news.yahoo.com/…

  7. Steve from Beaverton says:

My niece sent me an article from The Atlantic last night that kept me awake, especially after Trumpfs comments yesterday about not accepting the election results. It’s called “The election that could break America” and is a pretty chilling analysis (warning- it’s pretty long).
Without a complete blowout for Biden, I can see where between Trumpf and his fixer, Barrf man, the picture painted in the analysis is possible and the SCOTUS would rule in favor of ending our democracy with Trumpf.
My niece and I are like minded, but her dad (my brother) and her aunt (my sister) are Trumpsters from Idaho, and what they say have her freaked out about this election. Check it out if you want to stay up late tonight.

  8. One of the not-the-news guys I watch (Noah or Colbert) wonders whether Covid-45 realizes that the urgency to name a new justice is because they’re pretty sure he not going to win in November. I’d like to see that blasted everywhere.

    8
  9. Ralph Wiggam says:

It is just assumed that the Supreme Court will decide our “popular vote” election. A pretty good indication of the state of decay our democracy is in.

    9
  10. Steve from Beaverton @ 7,

I read that, too. I have a real bad feeling about this (thank you Princess Leah). I think the election could turn into a multiple dumpster fire. We’ve got to vote in mass and keep our sh!t together to stay safe in case trouble shows up armed.

    mbs @ 6,

Poor Boob. I’m glad it happened to him. I’m sure the spirit of RBG was smiling and nodding.

  11. G Foresight says:

How do we tell the media to wake up? The largest story of the 2020 election is unwinding in plain sight. Perhaps this one of the biggest stories in US history. But the media is largely underreporting it, not running it as front page headlines. Instead using the inappropriate and lazy “horse race” reporting model.

    That is:

“The major story of this election is Trump’s unprecedented efforts to lock in a victory through non-electoral means. It’s effectively a coup.”

A good discussion thread about this here:

    11
  12. Steve at 7, that IS chilling. But a better title for that article would be:

“The election TACTIC that could break America”.

Hard to believe that one person of dubious integrity, crying foul, without evidence, could pull this off.

    12
  13. @Miz JJ

OMG you mentioned the undead, Darth Cheney!!

    13
  14. Well, I’m wonderin’ who is gonna hold the WH for Donnie? Buncha wimpy little pansy azz Ivy leaguers? He’ll be in the bunker by himself after insisting that all hands be on deck to protect him.
    Just sayin….

    14
  15. Jane & PKM @ #4: Better idea: “I threw you into a bag and pushed it down the stairs” and I hope there were some gators at the bottom.

I do not relish spending the next umpteen weeks worrying about what country I’m living in.

    15
  16. Rhea, we’re good with that. Or, key open the elevator for them on the 57th floor of Dump Tower, only the car won’t be there.

Damn. His ‘diet’ combined with total aversion to exercise. Mother Nature I promise to stop having bad thoughts about Donnie, if you promise to smooth the way for nature to take its course asap.

    16
  17. Watch what they do. not what they say.

Republicans have a long greasy history of saying what you want to hear and doing what they were planning all along.

    17
  18. In our 500 population town in Idaho, today there was a big truck+sign+flags for don and mike. Maybe boxes of flags and other items for sale.
We voted the day we got our ballots and I took them to the courthouse drop box the next morning. Do it and help your neighors.

    18
  19. Neighbors, too. In addition to the horses.

    19
  20. Steve from Beaverton says:

Probably some of you also read today about the Trumpf campaign and probably his advisers looking into how they can get state electors to commit to the orange one regardless of whether their state has a policy of following the winner of the popular vote in their state. Seems like the next step they want to take to hijack our election system. I’m thinking some electors in Wa state tried that in 2016, so I can just imagine how many would try it in 2020 in other states, blue or not.
Our electoral college system already gives more weight to the amount of dirt between voters than actual voters, so their move would effectively nullify the national popular vote completely. Their thinking is the new scotus would back up the right for electors to vote how they want. We should be worried, very worried. I just hope it’s illegal for a campaign to try and coerce electors. Of course they wouldn’t care what’s legal. Talking about the “deep state.”

    20
  21. Are there are any decent, patriotic people within the federal government that took the oath to protect the US and the constitution, who will step forward and stop this takeover of our government?

I’m not sure that a Democratic majority vote is going to be enough, in light of a corrupted EC.

    21
  22. sybil wertheim says:

From what I’m hearing and reading it’s all about stopping the Scotus nomination/voting. At any rate, that person could well be sitting there even if the election goes our way big time.I’m excited about being a poll watcher on election day, yea!!

    22
  23. And to think that Nancy Pelosi and the House handed these guys a chance to toss this democracy strangling man-baby out on his ass and they took a pass.

It’s our turn. We’ve got to throw them out in the next 5 weeks. Every one of them.

    23
  24. Harry Eagar says:

If Trump loses and the justices pick him anyway, let’s impeach the justices. And let’s let them know we will, I am sending my letters.

    24
  25. What the R Senators are really scared of is the odd chance that the race will stilll not be called after a certain date which means that Nancy Peolosi takes over according to the rules. Mother of five, grandmother, and she can be when necessary one mean Mary Jean!
