Just a Reminder

November 10, 2021 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Matthew McConaughey is still deciding if he wants to run for governor of Texas.

His little indecision game is hurting Democrats because no other Democrat wants to enter the race against him.  Meanwhile, if he’s not going to run we have some other real candidates who need to start campaigning.

He does a self indulgent interview with the New York Times and says – oh Lord — that he believes that politics can be art — and he happens to be an artist.

Dude, I’ve seen The Beach Bum, Free State of Jones, and Serenity. No. No, you’re not.

You’re cute as the dickens and you read other people’s words pretty well about 30% of the time but you are not an artist. We elected a guy who is not a professional politician and that’s how we got into this mess. Franklin Roosevelt was a professional politician, Dude. Donald Trump is not.

I could be wrong. Following the news and this site reasonably well over the years, IMO this dude ain’t ready for prime time. He’s putting on the patina of egotism thinking he’s got the formula for political success while what he needs is to have his posterior orifice handed to him with the hope he would learn the positive lessons.

  2. Wow.
“he asks himself… whether governing is the best and highest use of his skills”
    Wow.
    I mean daayymmm.
Anything we could do to sweeten the pot for you dude?
Speaking of pot, I started to watch the interview video.
While 35 or 40 years ago, that probably woulda been appealin, the contact high I’m convinced I woulda gotten off it woulda given me a downright unhealthy appetite for pizza.
    And nachos.
    With jalapenos on both.
Damn. I can’t even read that guy.
    Alright alright alright.

Dang, Ms. JJ. Seems you and Mr. Maxey need to pay that male tease a visit and explain life in politics to him. Record the “visit” and we’d be happy to pay your travel expenses. No Mr. Maxey, inside of Texas; ergo nyet to you following McConaughey to some deserted island via private jet. Not that you don’t deserve the trip …

Also if you would/could please throw us out-of-staters a lifeline to understanding TX Democrats. Beto? One or the other of the Castro brothers? Surely there are more than a few Texans, men and women, who possess better kibbles & bits than McConaughey. Cecile Richards? Wendy Davis?

Speaking ofFDR, Georgia magat Madison Cawthorn was videotaped popping wheelies in FDR’s wheelchair. Is nothing sacred to magats except drumpf’s balls?

Why on earth would Democrats not want to run against Matthew McConaughey? His qualifications to be Governor of Texas are about as good as my cat’s. Texas doesn’t need an “artist.” Texas needs a decent, honest, Democratic politician. Texas has those. One of them needs to run, and hand Matthew McConaughey a reason to go back to making movies.

    5
  6. And did I just read that he will not be vaccinating his kids? What? Really? Who needs this goofball!! We have enough idiots in office already.

    6
  7. Instead of running for governor of Texas, couldn’t McConaughey make a movie, starring himself, as an actor running for governor of Texas?

I’d call that win-win, something for everyone.

    7
  8. I remember an actor who became president in the 80s. How’d that work out?

    8
  9. He’d be an improvement over Doctor Strangegov-but then a slime covered rock would be an improvement.

    9
  10. john in denver says:

Has McConaughey ever done anything with a real political process, like, I dunno,
pushing some legislation through to enactment?
being a close advisor to a Texas Democrat who won or came very, very close to winning?
serving as an administrator for an enterprise larger than his personal posse? holding down some position of public trust and public service, like board chair of a large nonprofit, an officer in the Armed Forces, or an appointed government commission?

  11. The Surly Professor says:

So … how does he stack up against Kinky Friedman? Politically, that is. I don’t care if a politican is ugly as a burnt boot. Hell, Lincoln grew a beard basically because some young girl wrote a letter telling him he’d look much better with one. With the implication that the more of his face that was covered, the better off he was.

Kinky at least had a brain, and even wrote books that did not have to be bought by a political party to get into the stores.

We’ve had an actor and a reality TV personality elected and both inflicted tremendous damage on our country. The qualified Dem individuals who want to run against AButt need to get their hats in the ring and start planning good campaigns. McConaughey is an idiot and needs to get shut down post haste. I think Beto has announced he’s running (or has he just announced he’s thinking about running …?). I don’t know who else has expressed interest. I just wonder if Beto’s time has come and gone. He sure didn’t need attempt to run for president.

  13. Maybe Matt is feeling lonely and just needs some attention. It didn’t work for Caitlyn Jenner in California so he might want to rethink this. Granted he’s much better looking, but…no.

  14. Opinionated Hussy says:

e platypus….unfortunately, Madison Cawthorn is a North Carolina magat, and I’ve just been gerrymandered into his district. God help us all.

    14
  15. Grandma Ada says:

The minute he announces he’s running the GOP will publish his bongo pictures/stories. This is why the former Republicans running in our primaries hack me off (talking to you Matt Dowd). We have good Democrats – we need them campaigning soon!

    15
  16. If McConaughey is the best we can hope for in Texas then we are in deep trouble. Testing the water….no declaring his political affiliation…come on. Why would anyone vote for a candidate like that. Are we at a point in politics that the best we can do is vote for a “actor”?

I’m glad I am old – I don’t say that lightly. Our Democracy seems to be in “PERIL”.

  17. G Foresight says:

“McConaughey…said the state and rest of the country need ‘aggressively centric’ governments to overcome partisan divides.”

    Another clueless actor wannabe politician.

There are very few “centrist” voters in the US, and a lot of them are not into voting anyway, per a Pew poll.

For the sake of Texas democrats, he should stick to pushin stinkin lincolns on the teevee.

  19. Karen Crosby says:

I read today that Mr. All right All right can’t decide about vaccinating his kids against Covid 19. What a putz!

    19
  20. Steve from Beaverton says:

I heard at one point he was undecided about running as a dem or an R. Sounds like his stance on vaccines for his kids is either he could run as a repugnantican or is after repugnantican votes, too. That’s not alright, mr alright- that’s a bad message.

    20
  21. So, what the heck are the ‘real’ candidates waiting for? Announce and help him make that tough decision to stay home and ponder the significance of his life and the airspeed of an unladen swallow.

    21
  22. thatotherjean says:

What fenway fran said. C’mon, Democrats, get in there!

    22
  23. Let’s check the boxes for McConaughey’s qualifications to be governor.

Oh … he can’t check any boxes. Zero. Nada.

    23
  24. Fran, you have to know these things when you’re a king you know.
And besides, we could always keep him busy deciding his favorite color or questing for just the right shrubbery.

    24
  25. I’m afraid he’s going to be the next Kinky. It could get worse. Jim Hightower could sign on as an advisor. I have not and will never forgive Hightower for that.

    28
  29. thatotherjean says:

    @e platypus onion #28

Oh, lord–Texas should be so lucky! If they have to have someone inexperienced in government, Molly Ivins would be the one. Her power of ridicule would have the morons quaking. She’d have that place shaped up in no time.
