It’s Working!

February 23, 2021 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

The vaccines are working, at least among the elderly.  Real world studies in England are showing stunning results.

From December until the middle of February, more than 8,000 people ended up in the hospital with covid-19 in Scotland, but only 58 of those patients came from the vaccinated group.

I’ve had both my shots – I got Pfizer – and today is my two week anniversary.  I will still wear a mask when I leave my property until you guys catch up.

I feel good, had no side effects from either vaccine, and Ole Bubba is clear, too.  We are already planning trips for the Fall, so get your shots because we may be coming your way.

Ms. Juanita Jean Herownself, you and the Honorable Himownself Judge Bankston would be most welcome here. But you may want to place us first on your list and in early fall – we can guarantee you a good time, but cannot vouch for the weather past early October. We’ve all been in quarantine since March of 2020 and hope to be vaccinated sometime this summer. Working on getting my grandparents their shots, then our parents soon. Bring your dancing shoes, bring Mr. Maxey too. Pack light, as we have plenty of cold weather gear for all. Masks? You may want to wear one to cover your pretty face. If our cowboys aren’t out of quarantine soon, they’re apt to dance your feet bloody. Otherwise they’re harmless and know how to treat a lady. You can ask my sainted Grandma – she’s been enjoying being the belle of ranchland even if it means extra time soaking her feet. My Mom is more of a cynic ie. she is on to me; claims I’m a heartless wretch sacrificing both my mother and grandmother to reserve a few dances with Jane for myself. In my defense, we’re not like those fake cowboy Bundys to the south – we draw the line by treating women as equal partners, raising our cattle humanely, and definitely draw a firm line at dancing with the neighbor’s sheep.

  2. I know that you know that you and your beloved are always welcome here in the lovely San Bernardino mountains of southern California. We are in the midst of our “bluebird” days — the sun is shining, a gorgeous blue, cloudless sky, it’s cool and crisp and the snow is gone except for at our ski resorts. And I’m a great southern cook! We’ll grill a nice tri-tip roast, roasted low and slow with my granny’s special recipe German potato salad and fried green tomatoes (my personal favorite.)

My wife and I are at the top for vulnerability to the virus but, fortunately, pretty far down for risk of exposure, because there’s no telling when we can get the vaccine.

At the rate Maryland is moving, it might be 6 months.

The county health department is doing well, as far as I can tell, but Gov. Hogan is running a Somalia-style operation at the state level.

Do not vote for him or president.

  4. Congratulations! I KNOW how difficult it is to obtain shots (even if you are qualified) in TX. The lack of coherence in the state vaccination program here goes hand in hand with the total lack of competence found in the planning for the power grid. After all, we had county officials in charge of the health response publicly state the way to get around the business closings was to designate ‘all businesses’ as essential.

For fellow Texans, it helps to make your self known to the local judge (local judges are in charge of emergency response in Texas) and the head of your county health department. Do this by sending polite emails inquiring about updates and plans. Show up once to a county board meeting where these folks are updating the public (the other 4 people in the room). They tend to respond once you become a known person…. be polite. Not like some of our Republican brothers/sisters.

  5. Steve from Beaverton says:

Like other places, the process of getting an appointment for a vaccine in Oregon is like getting a big winner lottery ticket. Odds are poor and get worse each week. Only a small percentage of us (70 up (me), next week 65 up) are lucky enough to get one. The appointment window is only about a half hour 2 days/week. Oh well, just keep doing what we’re doing. At least we aren’t in N Dakota.

  7. Grandma Ada says:

I get my second vaccination this coming Sunday – nothing really changes, but I will feel a little safer. The Brits are allowing their people to travel and I bet there are some who are so anxious, they could row to Spain for a bit of sun!

  8. I had my second one (Pfizer) a week and a half ago. No side effects. You can come visit me anytime…Washington or Alaska. Take your pick.

  9. My wife and I had our second Pfizer vaccinations yesterday. Then I pick up today’s paper and find out that California has a new variant that spreads more easily, makes you sicker and is vaccine resistant. My wife was so happy yesterday she would have done hand flips if we were still up to that sort of thing. Now we’re back to waiting for more data.
