Inaugural Day, Part Uno

January 21, 2013 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Okay, I’m up and in my jammies in front of the teevee with my coffee and my cereal.

You gotta wonder what Republicans are doing today – it’s Martin Luther King Day AND we’re inaugurating a Democratic President.  This has to be the worse day of their lives.  Odds are pretty good that they are meeting somewhere to try to figure out how to keep President Obama from winning a third term and plotting to get rid of the Voting Rights Act.

But, on to important things:  Yes, I do love Michelle’s hairdo.  It’s young, it’s cute, and face it, Honey, she could wear the kitchen curtains and Aretha Franklin hat and still look fabulous.

I’ll have my laptop in my lap today so please feel free to chat.  It’s kinda our duty today to make Republicans miserable.

And for those who are asking, we did leave the front yard Obama sign out all night – with a spotlight and a camera on it.  And, yes, the Republican precinct chair across the street is seething.  So when our friends come tonight, there will be dancing in the street.  Oh yeah.

My take on the speech.  The fat cats Republicans were right about one thing — this man is coming after them.  He said, “this is what the people elected and this is what I am going to do.”. An unexpected but amazing speech.

Be social and share!

  1. Hope you have a wonderful time. I am glad about POTUS Obama, but honestly I am more jealous of the fact that you can be outside without coats, hats, mittens etc.
-7( with wind chill) when I got up this morning.

I am sitting here with my coffee, trying to keep my hands warm!
A great day to watch tv.

I’ll get a warm glow whenever I think about how far our country has come. Try as they might, Republicans can’t turn back the hands of time.

Juanita Jean – it is time for you to fess up. It was by your most professional hands that the First Lady is sporting a new hair style. We know that because after Mrs. Obama left the WMD Beauty Salon last week she was seen at the Dairy Queen ordering a Tripleberry Premium Fruit Smoothie – while you were ordering the Chocolate Covered Strawberries Waffle Bowl Sundae.

  4. Correction: it’s Martin Luther King Day AND we’re inaugurating a Democratic, black President.

Totally agree with you on Michelle. Malia and Sasha are looking lovely too.

I am totally enjoying the Inauguration today. I am so proud of what we have accomplished.

Four years ago, [b]Itchy Mitch and his cronies were plotting to obstruct and make Obama a one-term president.

I would expect nothing less in the upcoming term.

  7. A friend of mine suggested that the best way to annoy a Republican was to tell them you are celebrating “Black Monday”! I tried it, the response was, most enjoyable.

I remember this day 4 years ago. daMrs and I had been together such a short time she was still daFiance, and we were so excited that we couldn’t sleep the night before, so we stayed up all night.

Today is a happy happy day. But I will say this, beause I am such a political animal at base: when they showed Former President Clinton I blurted “…and FUTURE President Clinton.” Don’t get me wrong, I LOVES me some Joe Biden, but history is running against him.

  9. I just stopped in on the “Republican misery” Someday Girl linked to. Some comments seem kind of innocuous; don’t like Rush, Beck is squirmy, we’ll see re the next term.

And then there are the ones that can only refer to anyone in the First Family by perjoratives, as if their grasp of the English language stopped somewhere beyond poopyhead but well shy of actual communication. Or by barnyard descriptives.

I can’t handle it, can’t handle the thought today that any of us can speak of another in such terms. Today, I want to try to believe better of us all. Even about the Repugnant among us.

oops… (okay, a little teensy meow there. Am much better now!)

    9
  10. Dear Lord SomeDayGirl, I just went to your link, so much vitriol in one tiny space! It’s good to know that they still worship at the altars of Rush and Beck.

DaChipster, like you I appreciate Biden, he is a wonderful man, but I too would love a Clinton in the White House!

    10
  11. I’m thinking Beau Biden might make a run for it in a few years. That would also be a good thing. Humm, Clinton – Biden…

    11
  12. SomedayGirl says:

That was a much more pointed speech than I was expecting. It wasn’t quite a gauntlet being thrown down, but he sure did lay down some markers.

Yer on the Misery Chat – they are still in mourning and will never ever ever get over having the election stolen from them. Criminey…

    12
  13. Sam in Kyle: I get the warm feeling…but also the cold draft down the back because the Republicans already DID turn the clock back and we’re just re=turning it forward. It can happen again, which is the eternal frustration…it can always happen again. If we let it.

Today though, a gorgeous day in Central Texas, it’s all about the joy. It’s all about the warm fuzzy and the hugs and the cheers and the happy tears. We SHALL overcome, someday, and we’ve overcome quite a lot already.

    13
  14. Been busy today, collecting money from everyone who bet me four years ago that Mister Obama would be a one-term President…I’ve made enough cash to take the grandkids to Mickey D’s.

    14
  15. I’m too old to dance in the streets, but not too old to cheer for those who do: dance on, JuanitaJean, Bubba and all!

Yes, that was an extraordinary speech from Pres. Obama. Makes me think that the churls who hate him don’t have any understanding at all. This man is not powerless: and he does know how to use his political skills. It’s going to be a fascinating next four years.

    15
  16. Succinct,to the point, covering all the critical concerns. Maybe a little sketchy on climate change other wise I think it was just about the perfect second inaugural speech. I feel incredible proud of, not just the President, but of all of us who worked so hard four years ago to put him there and repeated that effort to keep him there. Also, Richard Blanco’s poem left me absolutely in tears. It describes the America that I long for and have often caught glimpses of in my 78 years on this “oblate spheroid” we call earth.

Uh, Dr. C (Mrs. C) just formally announced that I have to open the “reserve” bottle of Champagne to celebrate this wonderful occasion so I may be a little less coherent for the rest of the day.

    16
  17. Am merrily preparing for tonight’s party. It will be DC-centric with Green Hat Gin (from the new and only distillery in town–they’re promising whiskey at some point later) and DC Brau beer (from the first new brewery in decades and also the only one within the city limits).

Just so’s ya know: “The Man in the Green Hat” was George Cassady, who always wore a green hat, and was the main bootlegger for Congress during Prohibition.

    17
  18. Bud Malone says:

“today we should make Republicans feel miserable” – today and everyday and I’m doing my part.

    18
  19. Those who feel badly today are the short-sighted, bigoted and irrational
people who hitched their wagon to the money train despite all evidence to the contrary. We really don’t have to do a thing.

    19
  20. Oh, Happy Days, Happy Days! What a wonderful day; I’m enjoying every moment of it and hope all of you are too. In addition to to watching everything about the festivities on TV, I heard from two people (one is 35 and one is 47), who had never voted before in their lives. I convinced them to vote in November and to vote Democratic; they called today to thank me.

    20
  21. I don’t think the Repubs are working to try to figure out how to keep President Obama from winning a third term.

I think they’re still trying to figure out how to keep him from winning a second term. Or, for the more ardent True Believers, a first.

Reality is not their strong suit.

    21
  22. A good day for gloating, smiling, and doing jigs. Cheers! So proud. Loved the Address…. laid it all out on the table…. climate change, gay rights,

    22
  23. This will go down in the books at the We the People speech and from the first AFrican American President at that. Think the Repubs will get it? Naaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!

    23
  24. Looking forward to seeing classy, beautiful, well dressed, intelligent Michelle, wow the fashion industry with her gown tonight. As I watched today’s events, I had great pleasure at the thought of “destiny’s child”, Queen Ann Romney, NOT being First Lady. The thought of her as FLOTUS involves projectile emesis. I imagine she had planned the entire Mormon Tabernacle Choir on a float. Probably it involved elevators.

  25. liberalnaniintexas says:

Was it my eyes, or was the scum bucket, louie Gohmert, at the inauguration? Surely my eyes were playing tricks on me. Loved, loved, loved the speech. Especially the “digs” the president threw in about “those who dont believe in science”, and “these people are not takers”. Still watching all events. Whoo-hoo!

    25
  26. Must have been a horrible day for Boehner, Ryan & Cantor. Hope they’ll never have to attend an inauguration again. And, what a class act for the Obamas.

    26
  27. As any good sport would, I am offering my hand to GOP’ers with a hearty, “Good game, my friends!” Most, of course, don’t have a clue about being good sports themselves. Winners should aways be gracious.

    27
  28. This is just a “feel good” day, I don’t have much to add. The Rethugs are just flummoxed and have to behave themselves, since Protocol–not mention simple decency–require that they celebrate Democracy in America. Even when that Democracy bit them in the butt. HAH-HAH!

    28
  29. Thanks JJ and everyone else. What a beautiful day it was! The weather was gray and cold and awful in eastern Washington, but there was sunshine in everything that happened today. Let’s keep it going.
