I’m Home!

December 01, 2014 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

I’m exhausted and happy.

10473209_10205791990097805_2392976051928828636_nThe trip was great.  A special thanks to Craig and Deb for the special “researchers pass” to the Truman library, a VIP tour of the Truman home, and some of the best food and fellowship known to humans.

The Ozarks are gorgeous this time of year and I discovered that Omaha is much prettier than I thought it would be.  Colder, though.  Damn colder.

I have a week’s worth of laundry to do and suitcases to unpack.  I haven’t even started on Christmas yet and everybody else is decorated and done.

It’s good to be home.

Be social and share!

  1. Everybody’s decorations are up? Au Contraire! I’m not even planning to get a tree until the 15th or later.

Welcome back! Glad you and Bubba had such an excellent adventure!

    1
  2. Dang, JJ! I seriously hope you did not behave yourself!

    2
  3. Barb, we haven’t had a tree for about 20 years. Every time the kitten is maybe old enough not to trash it, another kitten has come along.

JJ, we missed you! Glad you had a great time. Now you can explore how many Christmas things people don’t notice if you don’t do.

  4. You went to Omaha? That’s a cool place, not just weather-wise. It’s beautiful because of the river and hills. It’s not just prairie. And it’s the prettiest downtown area I’ve seen.
When I retire I’ll move up to Lincoln, spittin’ distance from Omaha. The capitol building is perhaps the most beautiful one in the country. Pure, unadulterated Art Deco. The big brass doors and the mosiacs tell/reflect the history of the state.
I’m glad you’re back home. I just wish you had brought a bit of that cold weather back with you. It’s not Christmas if you don’t have to wear hats and gloves! (I’m a native Texan who lived lots of years in the Midwest. I miss having four seasons.)

Welcome home! It’s just not the same, athought kudos to the writers that filled in. It’s wonderful to vacation!
We have had snow already, (nothing like Buffalo!) and that made the Thanksgiving (my favorite holiday) so beautiful–I was crying with gratitude.
I have had trouble with holiday stuff since I found out I was Jewish (long and involved) and I really don’t like blue…so I’m very pleased to have hit upon snowflakes as my seasonal decor–a tree doesn’t make sense–we go to Ca at seasonal break to play with the kids and grand kids.
So let it snow! (Inside anyway!)
Hold good thoughts for us, my guy is taking a mega test tomorrow…Med school as a mid life crisis response is a tough journey.

  6. JJ. Glad you are back….. safe…. and sound.

And, many thanks to the people who kept everything running, while you were away.

  7. Don’t panic, just do one Christmas thing every day and you will enjoy it more. Glad you’re back safe and sound.

You’re fill-ins were more than capable, gracious hosts-especially with cookies before bedtime. I suppose the cookies are out now, huh?

I’d have your batteries checked if it only takes a week to re-charge them. 🙂

  9. Mary Beth says:

It is wonderful having you back. Thanks for getting someone to fill in so we all didn’t go into withdrawal over your holiday.

Leaving for Christmas is one good idea. Can’t decorate, I’m going to be gone. Works for me.

  10. Polite Kool Marxist says:

Welcome home, Mrs. B.! Your back-up crew of hostesses and hosts took superb care of us, but we still missed you.

It took how many days to create the laundry, but leave it to a woman to do all the laundry, Christmas things and lord knows what else in a day or less. I stand by my reasoning that it’s time we men stepped aside and let the ladies run the country.

And for those who claim God was a woman? Nah, She would have done a better job.

    10
  11. Happy to have you back!

    We celebrate Yule here.

    11
  12. UmptyDump says:

@PKM – Actually, my wife often leaves it to Maytag and me to do some of the laundry – and occasional ironing as well! This may ignite a bunch of hootin’ and hollerin’, but it ain’t all that difficult or tiresome! (There. I said it. Wash my mouth out with Tide!)

    12
  13. Marge Wood says:

Big smile. SHE’S HOOOOOOMMME! Wahoooo! We carried on okay but it ain’t the same without Miz Juanita Jean, who looks in her picture like she done had a purty good time herself.

    13
  14. Polite Kool Marxist says:

UmptyDump, “some,” “occasional” and we can find our way to the store and actually return with stuff to fix a meal. We’re survivalists, UmptyDump, but I for one certainly can’t add managing a household to my resume. Next time my wife is off visiting her family, you’re hired. She insists!

Oh, as for fixing a meal? That usually involves fetching flowers and some bling, too. Can’t manage the household, but somewhat adept at digging my way out of the doghouse.

    14
  15. Marge Wood says:

PKM honey, sounds like you’ve not been married long as I have. There’s always hot dogs, or in a pinch, going out to eat. I never turn that down. Bling? My husband HATES shopping. When we were newly weds he spent every lunch hour for a week looking at earrings for me. He nearly had a nervous breakdown. He did find nice ones, no diamonds thank God. Now once in a great while, flowers enter the front door. Umpty, any time you want to come iron stuff at my house, you come on over. I’ll set up the arnin’ board. Mostly stuff to be ironed, isn’t.

    15
  16. Welcome home, JJ! We attempted to acquit ourselves well in your absence.

    16
  17. As Mama Jewell would say to us, “Welcome back to God’s country!”

    17
  18. Marge Wood says:

    FLOWERS! SPARKLERS! BUBBLY!

    18
  19. Marcia in CO says:

Welcome back, JJ … we missed you but we did have a lot of fun in your absence!!

    19
  20. That Other Jean says:

Welcome home! We tried not to wreck the place while you were gone, and the folks you got to keep us busy did a great job. We’re glad to have you back, though.

    20
  21. Missouri Mac says:

I’m glad you enjoyed the Ozarks! I live on the northern edge, and I’m quite fond of its ancient ridge tops and narrow valleys…I just wish we had a little more soil and a lot less chert rock!

    21
  22. Marge Wood says:

Chert rock! How does one define chert rock? I’ve looked it up a bunch. I think I need to go finish cleaning out the china closet. Anyone need odds and ends of beaUtiful but useless stuff?

    22
  23. People took good care of us in your absence, but it’s sooooo good to have you back again! Looks like all that invisible air didn’t hurt you much, but then you didn’t have to breathe it for very long. Don’t exhaust yourself about Christmas — it’s going to come whether you’re ready or not — just ask the Grinch. Welcome home, fearless leader!

    23
  24. Miz Juanita Jean, you’ve got the best bench in the non-blogging world. They did you proud. So glad you had some away time. It’s good to have you back home.
