I Have a Question

A friend sent me this from a small town newspaper near Austin.  Click the little one to get the big one.

I’m here to tell you that property near Round Top is expensive and I think I don’t need to tell you that a six bedroom house with a two bedroom “carriage house” ain’t  gonna be cheap to build.

So, here’s my question:  how can a man who has never once in his whole adult life held a public sector job get that damn rich?  That man has drawn a government paycheck his entire adult life.

Second, if he’s running for President, why would he want to remind people of the Bush ranch?

Third, he running for President?  Really?  Has he learned to read or something?

Thanks to Cecil for the heads up.

Since JEB! will have to run as JEB!(not bush) if he decides to run, I reckon Perry is trying to fool the teapublican’ts into believing he really is the second coming of W. Compared to the cast of characters who have huckstered for the teapublican’t nomination since W, W doesn’t look as bad as he did when we all serenaded him on his way out of the white house. Most teapublican’ts still think W did awright, so running a dubya-ish campaign may pay off in the primary for Perry. JEB! however is thinking long term and knows he must run as not bush to get close enough to cheat in the general election. In other words, another convoluted teapublican’t primary is at hand where what helps in the primary harms in the general.

    http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2011/08/how-rick-perry-got-rich-while-working-government-jobs/244342/

His political cohorts say just “dumb luck”.
His net worth …. about now is about $3Mil. That’s a lot of “dumb”…. and a lot of “luck”.

  3. Gosh, ya’ll, if one has been living in luxury digs for so many years furnished by the Texas taxpay-pay-payers, you can’t just transition to a ticky-tacky two bedroom with one bathroom bungalow! Goodness, he’s an important (in hid own mind) and (in)famous person now and has an image to maintain. He has learned the lesson, with a lotta help from his rich cronies, that if you buy low and then sell high, you can be rich without doing any work. It’s downright amazing how that works so well with politicians.

My relative who lives down the road from this Perry erection is visiting me later this week. I’ll try to find out what she knows.

  4. this is supposed to be a family home? How big is his immediate family? Otherwise, it sounds like he is building what my daddy used to call a “going concern.”

  5. Well, you need to remember that while Rick Perry doesn’t really work for a living, he still pulls down a paycheck from various companies who are ‘indebted’ to him for his ‘services’ he performed on their behalf while pretending to be a civil ‘servant.’ Those kinds of paychecks can add up after a while.

The Koch Brothers have deep pockets.

maryelle, yes the Koch gohmerts have a ton of cash. But it didn’t do them much good at the national level. Let’s hope 2014 takes their cash with no return at the state levels. Congress buying gohmerts belong in prison, along with three members of the US Supreme Court who need to be impeached. “Citizens United” the gohmert decision to strip us of our one person one vote democracy. Gohmert paid gohmerting gohmert Roberts has done nearly as much damage to our democracy as Dubya and his two unfunded wars with tax breaks for the rich gohmerts who want their gohmert overseas assets protected at taxpayer expense and the blood of our youngest and brightest.

Voting Republican is nearly as insane as using nuclear waste as a suppository. Fast or slow, it isn’t good for you.

  9. He thinks he will need it for the Summer White House, just as Bush need his “ranch.” I suppose.

  10. maryelle says:

And Rick Perry has been in those and other deep pockets. Voila: the 10 acres, the manse and guest house. He sees himself inviting
Putin over like Dubya did, just before he invaded Georgia.

maryelle, maybe pRick Perry will go full Dubya Monty. Kiss a few sheiks, accommodate Vlad in an act of Vlad’s choosing, and send the Koch brothers a selfie.

We pay these elected criminals. If their tax returns show the criminality of their ill gotten gains, it’s time to Club Fed their gohmert selves and their criminal accountants.

All I know is, Paint Creek ain’t near Abilene. It ain’t near nuthin. It’s a six man football town, same as Trent. The way you find it on a Friday night in the fall is to look at the map, find a road going that way, and then after an hour or two, watch for the football field lights in the middle of the cotton fields. THAT’s where Paint Creek is. I ‘magine he wants someplace a little easier to find for his overactive retirement.

The locals between Round Top and Oldenburg hold huuuge antique fairs/fleamarkets twice a year along highway 159/237* (runs roughly from La Grange to 290 west of Brenham).
Maybe Ricky is planning on auctioning off all those chunks of TX that he’s squirreled away over the years in his upcoming spare time.

*I used to commute along that road, was used to flying along (ahem…) really early in the morning, fun drive with all the curves.
Then one fine Monday as I was cruising along (just under ‘military power’, heh) when lo and behold: WTF is going on here?!
Formerly empty fields along the road for a mile or two are jam packed with tents and trailers and booths, vehicles parked; and people are everywhere, sauntering across the effen road with a cup of coffee, yikes!
It was that dang antiques show that had rolled in over the weekend (never heard of it before). I had to add at least 20/30 minutes both ways to my commute time to allow for threading through that mess, sheesh.
