I read someplace that Trump was calling this the “Chinese” virus. I couldn’t stop with just rolling my eyes, shaking my head, and banging the desk with my fist.
The Amazing Racist just got my goat.
I have decided to call it TrumpVirus – he broke it, he bought it.

Three of the four states which scheduled in-person primary voting for Tuesday—Arizona, Florida, and Illinois—are going ahead with it despite threats to public health from the coronavirus outbreak that spurred Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine to delay voting in his state until June.
Progressives and political observers found the decision to move forward with voting to be a mistake given the severity of the coronavirus.
“Trying desperately to urge people to take coronavirus seriously and to stay at home—and then holding elections and encouraging them to go vote at polling stations filled with poll workers and others: the opposite message—is appallingly irresponsible,” tweeted Intercept journalist Glenn Greenwald.

Research from a laboratory-grown copy of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) that causes the COVID-19 illness shows that heat affects the virus and impacts its behavior, a top pathologist said new research has shown. But other infectious disease experts aren’t yet convinced.
“In cold environments, there is longer virus survival than warm ones,” Hong Kong University pathology professor John Nicholls told AccuWeather exclusively.
Nicholls and colleagues from a team at Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, China, previously produced a study, which was published in February and has yet to be peer-reviewed, noting the effect of heat. Their research is based on one of the world’s first lab-grown copies of SARS-CoV-2.
One recent research paper supported this assertion by pointing out the proximity of the major hotspots. The authors of the study, which was published last week, wrote that COVID-19 “has established significant community spread in cities and regions only along a narrow east-west distribution roughly along the 30-50 North latitude corridor at consistently similar weather patterns (5-11 degrees C [41 to 51 F] and 47-79 percent humidity).”

Her parents, as generous and kind as humans can possibly be, are in quarantine in Beijing. His continual labeling of this infectious agent as the Chinese virus is hateful, which he is. Every minute of every day. And he encourages hate, which is even worse. Someone recently talked about how Democrats loathe Trump. Is there some word worse than loathe? What I feel for him is worse than that.

Using “virus” implies a level of knowledge that his administration lacks – he’s already shown he has no idea of the difference between bacterial and viral infections.
So my vote is to use “disease” or “plague”. They give a connotation of something icky in the way “virus” doesn’t. Plus “plague” suggests rats, fleas, and the other parasites Trump has inflicted on us.
The TRUMP-16 modifier from Grandma Ada is great. I also like Buttermilk Sky’s list. Donzorrhea has the nifty undertones of diarrhea + gonorrhea. Maybe we need to build up the full list, and experiment to see which ones best make our local maggats’ heads explode?
29Linda Phipps @20, For some time I’ve been wondering about that West Virginia anomaly. I figure it could be two possibilities:
1. WV’s public health system lags way behind other states’ and just isn’t very aware of what might actually be going on.
2. WV is about the most homogenous and least diverse state, with a population [on average] –that is far less mobile than other places– [not to mention poorer, less educated, and strongly attracted to all the Rethug COVID-19 denial].
#2 is probably the main factor, with #1 adding to it.
Not to offend any WV’ers, but the state does have a rep almost as bad as AL, GA, MS, LA, etc. The only WV’ers I remember knowing, very few of them, really did fit the “hillbilly” stereotype, but that was 50+ years ago.

Summarising: Heat kills the virus. He recommended hot beverages and soups. If unable to wash clothes, hang in the sun as the virus is killed by sunlight.
The size is very large (as viruses go) so special expensive filters (masks, etc.) are a waste of $$. Basics will do nicely.
Being large, it’s heavy so keep 6 ft away from coughers, sneezers, etc. It lives only 2 hours on skin (finger tips).
WASH YOUR HANDS!
It starts with a sore throat and moves on to pneumonia. If accompanied by fever – call your doctor!
