“Trade Wars Are Fun and Easy to Win,”

Investors pull more than 20 billion from stocks on ‘trade deal trauma’ BAML: (Bank of America/Merrill Lynch)

Global equities have seen outflows of $20.5 billion in the past week as “trade deal trauma” pushed more money into bonds, Bank of America Merrill Lynch said on Friday, the latest sign of how growing global trade tensions are roiling financial markets.

U.S. President Donald Trump’s tweets on Sunday night, threatening to raise tariffs on Chinese imports, upended the previously calm market and wiped roughly $2 trillion from global equities this week.

    The Art of No Deal…

The Trump administration raised duties on $200 billion of Chinese imports to 25% from 10%. China’s Commerce Ministry said it would impose “necessary countermeasures” but gave no details.

The talks were due to resume Friday after wrapping up Thursday evening with no word on progress.
“China deeply regrets that it will have to take necessary countermeasures,” said a Commerce Ministry statement.

  2. magasoid,
Sometimes actions by the Trump administration are so wrong, ethically, legally, morally, it’s not necessary that those personally affected enlist their own children when the misconduct is addressed.

Trump has created a situation in which we are all for the sake of our democracy, crisis actors on the national stage.

    megasoid, It’s all A-OK.
I”ve read where there is speculation that tRump and his crime family/minions are using ‘insider info’ on these moves to do some very profitable stock market ‘short selling’ and stuff. Would y’all expect anything less?

This is the quote I was looking for in the first link: “A trade war, with across-the-board tariffs on US-China trade, would push the global economy towards recession,” BAML warned.

Elites have stocked up on wealth; plenty of Beluga, gold, cars, stately manors. I could give a crap about them. Its the rest of the planet that will endure suffering on a different scale.

Brilliant and frightening. I love his anti-tRump button cannot read the other buttons.

The most frightening sign I’ve seen over the course of the past 2 1/2 years.
    And that’s saying something.

  7. megasoid:
I’m not smart enough or educated enough to make informed decisions about international trade policy. Because I think few people are.
I just think that lots of brilliant folks educated in the history of international trade believe they’ve got a handle on what’ll work.
And I believe that only goes far enough to make them arrogant enough to believe they’ve got every situation under control.
When the reality is that every negotiation is with individual cultures.
    That change constantly.
    There is no one-size-fits-all approach.
That’s why we established the State Department, and why it was so vital to our trade.
Research. Intelligence gathering. Getting the pulse of what potential trading partners wanted/needed.
Donnie Douchebag is a malignant narcissist who believes he knows what he is doing.
    By himself.
    And Fox and Friends.
But as far as the picture, plenty of people understand that the fourth estate is under assault.
Not just journalists or their children.

  8. My first thought was high school (or college) journalism student. They’re pretty savvy, too.

    8
  9. They’ve already “come” for several journalists. The assorted media has harrumphed and mumbled about it for half a news cycle and returned to their task of delivering advertising to their viewers, which is exactly what they are paid to do. We need to keep remembering that we are the product they are selling to their corporate masters. If there are any real journalists left, their impulses to get at meaningful news is subverted by the corporations they work for.

Did you see where Trump has turned the Fourth of July celebration to “A Tribute to Trump”

    Zieg Heil Trump!

Paraphrasing Rudolf Hess [1934 Nuremberg Rally]: “”The Party is Hitler. But Hitler is Germany, just as Germany is Hitler.”.

See Umberto Eco’s list of fourteen general properties of fascist ideology.[20] @2nd link below.
    And Kevin Passmore:
“Fascist nationalism is reactionary in that it entails implacable hostility to socialism and feminism, for they are seen as prioritizing class or gender rather than nation. This is why fascism is a movement of the extreme right. Fascism is also a movement of the radical right because the defeat of socialism and feminism and the creation of the mobilized nation are held to depend upon the advent to power of
***a new elite acting in the name of the people, headed by a charismatic leader,***
and embodied in a mass, militarized party. Fascists are pushed towards conservatism by common hatred of socialism and feminism, but are prepared to override conservative interests – family, property, religion, the universities, the civil service – where the interests of the nation are considered to require it.”

[separate comment, to facilitate moderator deletion, if adjudged OOB]
I’ve hinted and written this, basically, before:
Y’all gentle liberals, progressives, D’s, whatever, all need to be prepared for a [highly] possible/probable future literal “combat” environment.
Your enemies, smiling all around you, want you beyond marginalized or powerless. They want you suppressed, removed, terminated, exterminated. All it takes are a few words from their overlord[s] for them to act [think Rwanda].
You must be ready to defend yourselves, even to the maximum [barrel of a gun] against them. It’s much closer than most of you think.
Sure, let’s wait for “the rule of law” to play out. But you know how that’s going to work out, given what you surely should be seeing and hearing so far.
These people, from the top down, are all hobnailed Fascists bent on total domination [and hereditary succession]. There is only one way to prevent this, beat them in raw power and force if it comes to that.
Sure, we all would like to beat them soundly in the 2020 elections. But you’ve already had a glimpse of their response to that possibility. The time to prepare for the worst is now…
[dang, I still pulled the max punch that may become necessary– an ‘up close’ ..errr.. between the eyes ‘resolution’…]
