Heads Up
As Primo let you know below, the climate is going to hell in a hand basket.
I need y’all to send all your good thoughts to Houston, the second most liberal city in Texas.
Look here. The hype-free weather guys says, “damn.” (Click the little one to get the big one.)
See that little white spot in the middle that says 11 – 15 inches? If you can enlarge it real big, you will be able to see me waving at you. Holy crap, the rain is a’comin’.
Bubba is up at his office, moving all his files to the tops of tables. I am at home pulling out every flashlight we have because I just got a text from Centerpoint Energy saying that it’s highly probable we won’t have any electricity and they don’t know when the hell they can get it fixed. Thank God we have some Ben and Jerry’s ice cream in the freezer that will have to be eaten.
Bubba has charcoal and wood for the barbeque house out back so we’ll eat – probably even better than normal. We have a second floor in case it gets real bad. We’d leave but look at that map and tell me where the hell we’d go.
So, I suspect I should get an airplane ticket to DeeCee and go stand outside the Benghazi hearing room yelling like a banshee.
To my fellow Texans: hunker down and take it like an old bull in a blue norther.
I’ll check in every now and then in the comment section.
HOLY CRAP stay safe. We have the biggest hurricane in… well, in living memory… moving up the coast but it’ll blow itself out before it reaches this far north. Keeping a good thought for you all and for our Mexican neighbors.
Fresh water, fill up sinks and the bathtub and turn off the water when that’s done.
1Best wishes JJ.
2I made it through a rainstorm that poured down 27 inches in 24 hours some years back, It wasn’t easy, but eventually everything dried out again. Keep the fans running as long as you can… good luck.
Dearest JJ
All good thoughts, your way.
Stay safe.
Hugs.

Hubby just got back with milk and bread. IDK if that’s a Philly thing or not but it’s not a real storm unless you go out for milk and bread.
JJ, if you need to, jump in a boat and paddle on up to Montgomery County. Just don’t forget the ice creme.
We have the milk and bread covered.
4Stay safe Texas!
Hope when the rain stops and the sun comes out, all the good Texans are energized to turn your state blue.
5Stay safe, please!
6Can we do anything to help?
How is momma going to do? Is she safe?
Stay safe JJ! If you do decide to escape, we’d love to have you for high tea and a chat here in southern New England- where it hasn’t rained for weeks and the plants that haven’t frozen are dried up and blowing away.
7Be safe.
8AAAIIIEEEE! That looks like some serious rain. Stay safe.
9Good luck, all!
10If you have to go into the attic, be sure to take an axe. Much easier to get through the shingles that way.
11Yesterday at 3:30, I-35 was closed north of Waco and I-45 was closed at Corsicana. The local weatherman said all roads in Navarro County are closed except the roads that they can’t get to (seriously, he said that). And it is getting worse and it is headed for you.
12And TOILET PAPER! Don’t forget toilet paper. Peanut butter, bread or crackers and water can get you through almost anything, but the TP is essential. Even if you are using a bucket.
13Prayers coming your way from PA.
Got some water in the house in northeast Austin, but damn JJ. I’m waving back at you, and considering myself lucky. Had between 3-6″ here. City just trimmed trees along the fence line so I hope we don’t lose power. Praying for y’all.
14Good luck! Beaming good thoughts in your direction.
15God bless and keep you safe Texas! Sending positive thoughts your way Ralph, Lorraine, Austin Hat Lady, Mollusk, and of course Susan and Don and all you other Texas visitors to the Beauty Salon. Keep us Northerners posted whenever you can, I’m sure I speak for all of us when I say we’ll all be worrying about you and hoping for the best.
16Thinking of you and the rough weather coming your way. Here in NYC we lived through a monster storm and it isn’t pretty. Hopefully all will be well and there will be enough repubs left to write great columns about!
17Hopefully you won’t have to haul out the row boat … wishing you a safe passage through the storm from Colorado.
18Keep your pompadour dry!
19I’m on the eastern edge of this in Beaumont. My area doesn’t usually flood, but 3-4″ per hour might stress it! But JJ, if the wind blows your rowboat west to east, you can use my little place as a port in the storm!
20Much appreciated Deb!
21Sending best wishes from Maryland; hope everyone stays safe and dries out soon. Ditto on the toilet paper. Cartoon of “Women preparing for blizzard” had them all rushing out of the market, carts piled high with chocolate, so don’t forget that either. And best wishes to all the cats and dogs and other critters, with and without homes with people.
22Wishing you good luck in this mess. Hope your power stays on or comes back fast if it goes out.
23The Corsicana area received as much as 20+ inches of rain in less than 24 hrs and Patricia hasn’t even joined the party yet! We’ve had 4.25 ” in beautiful New Baden and still raining. Thinking about getting the kayaks out just in case! Seriously, the real threatening stuff could be anywhere along and south of I-10 according to the NWS, depending on where a surface low spins up. Drive now if you have to! Sandridge, the reports out of SW Mexico seem fairly reasonable, big threat now is mudslides from the heavy rain- have you heard from your friend who was in harbor in those parts? Seems their evacuations went more smoothly than ours ever do; we do have 6 million people in the Greater Houston area, and there were some 400,000 in the high risk area for Patricia. They are already uncovering everything! (Love the BBC!)
24Obama is trying to wash wingnut Texans south of the Rio Grande where they belong. If you aren’t a wingnut, don’t take this rain personally. Signed The White House.
25It’s edging up on 3:00 pm and we’re ready for anything. The rain is just now starting to pick up a little but it’s still a light rain. I am told that will change later this evening so I’m taking a damn nap.
26What happened south of Vallarta a few miles yesterday when Patricia came on shore.

Since yesterday, I’ve had 7 inches here in my backyard in SW Austin so far. The house is fine. Austin Hat Lady, if you need a place to dry your toes, you’re welcome here. Just say the word. Or any other owners or customers here at the Beauty Shop, for that matter.
28Pump all that extra water into the Gov’s Mansion.
29Stay safe and dry.
No no no! We just FIXED the Govs manse while also paying for grifter (p)Rick and Anita to live in some very high dollar digs to the tune of ten grand a month, thanks! The DPS let some pyro torch the place on Goodhair’s watch. I am ALL FOR evicting the current hypocrite in chief and installing someone worthier! Think we can up our ground game y’all? Get some people registered and get them to the polls? Has everyone voted to amend the Constitution for the 872nd time? Have we?? Deadline Nov 3rd!!
30You should try prayer. I heard that works!
31Excuse the untimely watery reference, but best wishes too from across the pond (Surrey, UK). Make the best of a bad time, and enjoy the BBQ and icecream. (Just the thought makes me homesick for my place of origin, South Africa).
32Like you said, where ya gonna go? Stay safe. Hug Bubba for me and hang on.
My brother’s in Houston. If you see a 6’4″ black haired guy going by on a raft, lasso him for me, wouldja?
33Thinking positive thoughts for you guys. I do NOT miss Texas weather. Ever. But I do miss you. Stay safe and dry! And eat the Ben and Jerry’s even if the power stays on 🙂
34Still doing great here. I hope my neighbors are appreciative that all my preparations are what are keeping us above water. We still have electricity, too!
35Well, speaking from southeast Houston (near the Harris/Galveston border) I’ll admit that things are reasonable at the moment. We’re a little over 1.5″ inches of rain, but given the radar, well… we’re expecting part of that 10″+ to hit our area.
Which given the drains, we’ll be fine. Surprisingly fine. Sure, it was touch and go back when we had that heavy rainstorm some months back, the one that dumped some 13.5″ of rain on us back in May… but that was a rarity.
36I’m in Houston. It’s been raining for a few hours, but the streets don’t seem to be flooding (yet).
It’s fine. i have enough alcohol here to last me a few days.
37Helping out my pet sitter tonight by doing a visit to two shitzu’s. When I opened the back door to let them in the yard They were like “Lady, you have lost your mind, come back tomorrow morning with a whole roll of bounty cause we be doin’ our business inside”
Lots and lots of rain – I live in the Heights in Houston – if we flood Houston is under water.
38Does anybody have any info on the goings-on in Pasadena?
I have a sister there–but don’t ask why I don’t call her.
39Prayers for all in Texas.
40JAK I like your thinking here, but before you flood the Gov. mansion, make sure Abbot is in the basement.
41We live in way way south Austin. I drove home from east Austin an hour or so ago. Raining but not bad. Cat annoyed. He wants out but he don’t want no rain. I guess he’ll just have to run laps all night.
42Hoping for the best in Mexico and east Texas. Been raining out in Abilene for three days and they’re lappin’ it up.
p.s. Be safe, Juanita Jean and Bubba. Hugs.
43Marge
Just take care, we need you, JJ
44Operating a barbecue grill in the rain is not my idea of fun. We have a Coleman camp stove in the garage that probably still works, and a couple of cans of white gas. It saved us after Ike, when we were without power for ~2 weeks. If worse comes to worst, we still have some MREs left over from Ike. I may have to wade to the grocery store to get more Ben & Jerry’s. That doesn’t last long around here.
45BarbinDC, I’m close to Pasadena, and so far so good. Some streets reported as flooding, but that’s all I know of. Still raining.
46@Marge Wood, our late cat Morgan would go from one door to the other in bad weather, yowling at us to do something about it. My husband said, “He thinks we’re gods.” I said, “No, he thinks we’re omnipotent slaves.” Morgan used up about 18 lives. I think he was taking them from us toward the end.
47I’m in NE Austin, almost Pflugerville. I got about 13 inches of rain over a 24 hour period. I can’t tell you how the roads were because we were holed up avoiding the crazy Austin drivers. Our electric has been fine.
Rhea @ 44 your description reminds me of “door into summer” by Heinlein.
48Hope to see a good Sunday morning update from you JJ. All us Salon patrons worry and care.
@BarbinDC 39 – I understand. I have a sister in Dallas/Arlington with whom I did not speak for over a year. I will have to put on my very thin veneer of Christianity and steel myself to call. She called me after the Carolinas flooding so I suppose I must return the favor. But I won’t like it.
49Phew! We never lost electricity and the Brazos River carried off all the water so far. It’s still drizzling this morning but the worst is over. Thanks for all your good wishes, guys.
