Handcuff me! Beat Me! Call Me Thelma!
I just loved when Trump’s lawyer/vaudeville actor van der Veen screamed, “handcuff me!” The level of weirdness this guy brings to the table is outstanding.
Now they are threatening to call Nancy Pelosi and Kamala Harris . First, no Hillary? Second, Honey, I would pay cash money to watch van der Veen cross examine Nancy or Kamala. I would and you would, too.
Apparently vdV wants to question Pelosi & Harris in his office in Philly. He’s going the full Pay-Per-View route. hahaha.
1Good lawyers won’t work with trump. He has to take what he can get – clowns.
2Yes, witnesses! embellish this shameful sham and let the jurors and the complicit crawl through the sludge of a washed white kabuki opera.
Headline: Lindsay Graham again consults with Trump’s attorneys — in the middle of the trial: ‘They actually pulled him off the floor’
3vdV can pound on his high chair tray all he wants. Senator Pat Leahy is presiding over this trial. While his patience with vdV and the defense has been stellar, there’s a line not to be crossed with Senator Leahy, and they’re perched on it.
Could be content with 3 witnesses: Kevin McCarthy, Mike Lee, and former Vice Poodle Pence. If any of the 3 lie, then “it’s on.” Bring in the capitol police and the Congresswoman who heard the call between McCarthy and tRump.

Well they’re getting into the witness wars now. SW WA representative Jamie Herrera Beutler (R) says McCarthy told her that while the capital attack was on, he spoke to Trumpf asking him to call for and end of the siege. McCarthy said Trumpf was siding with the mob in the capital and would not make a statement to call for an end. I don’t often agree with her, but believe she is 100% honest. So yes, bring on the witnesses, her, McCarthy and Pence. And maybe even Trumpf. I heard a lady say the other day that “the truth lies with liars” which is so true.
5Lindsey wants witnesses (Pelosi and Harris) to get them to admit they’ve used the term “fight.” Ok, do it- but the difference is their use of the term fight didn’t end in a mob attacking the capital. It ended with people voting against Trumpf and electing Biden.
Because the Republicans have said they will acquit, Drumpf can throw any lawyers up to defend him that he wants. They are just there is body.
Second, these lawyers know they will likely not get paid when their bill comes due, so why waste any time developing a real defense?
As for me, am I a fool to keep hoping justice will finally come and this asshat at the least will be convicted? Just what is happening to our country that a president can call out his goons to inflict damage and injury? How is this even possible?
6I would like to take this moment to throw in a historical Q’uote from McQ’arthy.
“There’s two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump,” McCarthy, R-Bakersfield., said, according to a recording of the June 15, 2016,…..
I also just read on TPM that the Dems already caved on calling witnesses. That was a pretty short poker game.
7Nope. Van der veen got his bluff called and he folded.
I covered trials for half a century and generally a lawyer was pleased when he got the jurors laughing with him; it meant they sympathized with his side.
Veen lost it and then failed to read the room. Apparently over lunch break somebody clued him in.
It is bizarre that after 4 years of watching anybody who sidled up to trump get singed there are still people eager to immolate themselves. I used to wonder the same thing when reading medieval history: the story of Piers Gaveston, for example.
I am not an admirer of Lord Acton’s but he was right about power. However there should be an addendum about the contagion of power.
8Love the Strapped nod. Too many hours commuting to Galveston in the 80s listening to Houston radio, lol.
9Thelma.
10For a brief moment there, I was imagining His Heinous mentally trying to tally up the billable hours he would incur if witnesses were allowed and needed to be deposed. Not that he would actually pay the legal fees.
The Rethugs are clearly not going to convict. At least there won’t be 17 of them.
11In addition to Beutler’s statement in evedence, I also think a statement from Pence’s staff confirming the defense lie about when Trumpf knew Pence was being pursued in the capital would get another vote or 2. Too bad McCarthy doesn’t have the balls to back Beutler’s statement. The repugnantican senators voting to acquit will likely just feign it’s unconstitutional and creep away. Then maybe a censure with some teeth against Trumpf is in order.
12History will need to remember Trumpf and repugnanticans in the senate and house for what they are.
Impeachment is for show only. DoJ can act afterwards if it appears justice was perverted.
13Mr. Phillips @13, be it DoJ, NY AG Leticia James or GA, whoever can take the ***king moron off the streets first wins my support.
Steve from Beaverton @12 history probably will be unkind to Donnie. But for the immediate future let’s hope voters in 2022 severely punish Republicons in the House and Senate. Would like to see Biden/Harris enjoy a full Democratic majority to be passed on to Harris/___ in 2024.
If Democrats had enough of a majority to actually get things done, maybe a few Republicon voters would wake up to realize these split Congresses are why Congress has an approval rating in the low teens and stop voting against their own interests.
14Biden will pardon Trump.
Good ratings.
