Gun Nuts Their Own Worst Enemies
Virginia governor Ralph Northam has declared a state of emergency in advance of a planned open carry rally in Richmond on Monday, Martin Luther King Day. You’ll recall that the Dems took the statehouse and governor’s mansion in November, and are planning to enact common sense gun safety laws after finally ousting NRA shills who had previously controlled Virginia for years. The response to this news by gun nuts was predictable – threaten legislators with violence if they dared do that as well as whipping up a huge rally with thousands of gun toting weirdos bussed in from all over the country galvanized by wild conspiracy theories about gun confiscations. Northam is trying to prevent the nonsense that happened at Charlottesville in 2017 when the “Unite the Right” rally turned into a melee including several so-called “militias” (they’re not) parading around playing Army dress up and confusing an already chaotic scened that resulted in one death and dozens of injuries when a white supremacist, so incensed at anti-racist demonstrators that he plowed his car into a crowd of them.
In my interactions with gun nuts I’ve always found one consistency – the level of their obsession with their “God given gun rights” is directly coordinated with their lack of qualifications to get near a firearm including criminality. AND, these people just don’t have the common sense to understand that threatening a legislator’s or their family’s lives with gun violence is not a good way to make their case that they should be allowed to parade around in public toting an assault weapon with a loaded 30 round magazine. It’s like trying to negotiate with a cornered badger. There’s just no upside in even trying.
Good for the gov. I hope nobody gets killed.
1Guns may not kill people on their own…BUT … guns make it REAL EASY to kill people. Like try to easily kill someone with a knife! And I don’t mean it is hard to push the knife to the heart, but that you have to get close, look into their eyes and push the knife into their body, watch their pain and dying. Most people can’t do that even most gun nuts. But stand 100 feet away not able to see their eyes and just pull the trigger…easy!! way too easy!!!
2Also come at many with a knife and you may get the crap kicked out of you and then find the knife in you!!
Yes people are awful and guns just enable the awful!!
The Guv is in favor of gun safety. According the gun nuts, there is no such thing as gun “safety”. Its just a commie pinko plot to disarm even little kids with peashooters. The emotional link between gun nuts and their guns is really, really something else and worthy of a 72 hour psych eval.
3Have read that some of them ‘bagger/RWNJs are even advocating secession from Virginia and joining West Virginia or ‘independence’.
Might be interesting if they get frisky with the VA National Guard [assuming that’s what the VA Gov has in mind]. Martyrs, need mor martyrs…sure, step right up.
.
Yeah, I consider them as having ‘gone around the bend’, but I would probably be lumped in with them by some on some aspects of the topic [been a marksman since ~8yo, used many weapons as intended since then, have an assortment of them at the ready, etc].
4The God given right which trumps (sorry) them all is the right to live which these crazies are unable to acknowledge.
5Gun nuts don’t represent sane gun owners any more than Southern Baptists represent the teachings of Christ, the Taliban represents Islam, and Trump represents human beings.
6Kris Kobach campaigned for Governor of Kansas in 2008 by driving around in a flag-draped jeep with a machine gun, or realistic facsimile, mounted on it.
7He lost the election. To a woman.
O.K. Sam in Superior wins the internet today. As my Other Half is wont to say, “Democrats own as many guns as Republicans. We just don’t talk about them.”
8@Hussy – Precisely.
9… with gun nuts I’ve always found one consistency.
Another consistency is that they are always white males. The few females among them will talk a good game about being independent but you will invariably find they are under the strong influence of a male counterpart.
10I had a woman tell me the other day that ‘the Democrats want to take our guns.’ I think her guns should be taken but then I am not a Democrat.
I think anybody who wants a .223 should be required to shoot a goat or something similar at short range with it. Then we’ll see how tough they are.
11This hit close to home for me.
12My cousin, who lives in Alexandria, VA is coming for a visit this weekend. Not knowing VA’s geography, I asked if he would be passing through or near Richmond.
As it turns out, it’s 100 south of where he lives but, fortunately, he’ll be visiting several friends in Florida as well as me and he has already gotten as far south as Lakewood Ranch. So he’s past the danger zone.
I will importune upon him to give Richmond a wide berth on his way home.
“Another consistency is that they are always white males.”
no, they aren’t. recently, I was down at the river, fishing. two young men, one white, the other black, soon walked up and stood next to me. both were openly carrying 9mm semi-automatic hand guns, in holsters attached to their belts. tempted as I was, to ask them if there was something new in the river I should be concerned (flying barracuda/great white sharks?) about, I restrained my baser impulses. it would have been fun to watch them shoot themselves in the foot though.
13Two things:
First, I have never seen an open carry rally in which the participants followed safe gun handling rules. When you are in a crowd, the muzzle of a long gun invariably points at someone sometime.
In all the talk of “individual vs collective rights” 2A supporters ignore the actual discussion that took place before it was signed. It is clear that the 2A was designed to prevent the federal government from disarming the state militia prior to invading, rather than any individual self defense.
Besides, any discussion of Original Intent has to be undertaken with the realization that the BoR was written with the understanding that they were only binding to th he federal govt. Most of the amendments scale well to all levels of govt, but the 2nd left the balance of protecting the individual vs protection of the state up to the state.
We are actually aware of a number of people who have used their 2nd Amendment rights to protect themselves against the over-reaching arm of the government. We even have a special term for them: “cop-killers” and they usually end up hunted down and shot.
14The Far Side comic yesterday was a march by weirdos, the banner they carried – upside down – was “Imbeciles Unite” ; these are the folks in real life that we are up against!
15I was once in a BLM campground in Oregon. The campground had a “no shooting” sign. The sign was low to the ground. I watched as one of these idiots walked over, propped his foot on top of the “no shooting” sign for a more comfortable stance, and blazed away at the river with his oversized handgun.
You might say that this situation did not lend itself to civilized conversation.
16One strategy of ammosexuals is their push for “Gun Safety” classes in schools. The goal/theory behind that is once these preteens and hormone flooded teenagers get their hand on that hot piece of steel and feel the kick they would be addicted to a life of facilitating death and destruction either on purpose or by “accident”
17In these cases the response should be to mirror their approach to sex ed.
Total Abstinence is the only answer.
A condom can break, a safety can fail.
In moments of passion unprotected sex may occur resulting in pregnancy in a moment of passion one might use a gun and death may occur.
If alcohol is involved diminished capacity may result in sex and disease. If alcohol is involved diminished capacity may result death or injury.
Sex is sometimes a way to assuage low self esteem ( this is mostly blamed on women but…) Guns can give a permanent solution for low self esteem through suicide.
The list goes on and on
So since ammosexuals are generally against sex education they must, for parallel reasons ( similar parallel – ebola and bubonic plague) be against any “gun safety” classes that teach anything but total abstinence.
wellll i’m right proud to be in a bluer Va. tho my part is still very red. my county just refused to pass the ‘second amendment sanctuary’ crap that’s gone nuts here.
as part of the debate one person told how awful it was for her to be on campus when a local community college got shot up (mere miles from Va Tech and 7 yrs after that shooting so emotions still pretty raw).
so a gun nut felt the need to tell the tale about her daughter-in-law being @ the same incident. THAT idiot was PROUD to be involved in a mass shooting because if the shooter had entered her classroom she would have taken him down even thought she was not armed. tho she wished she had her gun with her, she stood up and faced the door while others cowered. wow, the delusions.
in response to her apparent bravery and the shooting, this jewel’s hubby got her a new gun! yeah, THAT’S who needs to be armed.
18And I almost forgot fallwell’s call for civil disobedience! Holy smokes, if that doesn’t show his immaturity and lack of christianity……and also illustrate nicely why the term gun nut is so appropriate. I don’t hate guns. My neighbors hunt on my land and have killed the occasional rabid mammal for me. I trust them. I don’t trust the nuts.
19I haven’t commented in awhile so what is relevant to me
20is having on MLK Day. How insulting to have a gun rally
against someone so commited to non-violence. It’s disguisting
and pitiful for these fools do do this.
i remember the black lives matter march a few years back in dallas, these thugs with aks,and ars decided they would keep the peace by marching with the BLM folks. yea, white guys,,with semi autos,to keep, the peace. until a lone sniper started shooting anyone from a parking garage.. i didnt even see any of those peacekeepers fire back..virginia is a powder keg waiting to happen. lets make the fact clear. if they decide to do any shooting, they will have made the case to eliminate their need for any guns..marshall law will prevail, and they, will be shot on site..nuff said…the ACLU said,if you carry a weapon to a protest, you are a mob..dont ask for help..let the nra dig themselves out of that one..
21On the other hand.
22“1 – Eleven teens die each day because of texting while driving. Maybe it’s time to raise the age of Smart Phone ownership to 21.
2 – If gun control laws actually worked, Chicago would be Mayberry, USA.
3 – The Second Amendment makes more women equal than the entire feminist movement.
4 – Legal gun owners have 300 million guns and probably a trillion rounds of ammo. Seriously, folks, if we were the problem, you’d know it.
5 – When JFK was killed, nobody blamed the rifle
6 – The NRA murders 0 people and receives $0 in government funds. Planned Parenthood kills 350,000 babies every year and receives $500,000,000 in tax dollars annually.
7 – I have no problem with vigorous background checks when it comes to firearms. While we’re at it, let’s do the same when it comes to immigration, Voter I.D and candidates running for office.
8 – You don’t need a smoke detector; that’s what the fire department is for. Now… if you think that sounds stupid, you know how I feel when you say I don’t need a gun.
9 – “Folks keep talking about another Civil War. One side knows how to shoot and probably has a trillion rounds. The other side has safe spaces, crying closets and is confused about which bathroom to use. Now tell me, how do you think that’s going to end?” – Zarathrusta
