Juanita Wants You To Adopt a County
Note from Juanita: I only ask you guys for money once every two years. I work with Glen Maxey to insure that every Texas Democrat over the age of 65 gets a mail ballot application. This year, they are good for every election for the entire year. I told Glen that it is his to do the begging this year.
By: Glen Maxey
You remember how we bragged about Texas actually passing a GOOD election law in 2013 that allowed a senior or disabled person to apply to vote by mail using ONE application for all the elections in an entire election year?
And then in 2014, we increased the number of Democratic seniors who were voting by mail by thousands over the similar election of 2010? We even had more vote in a low turnout Governor’s election than did in the 2012 re-election of Obama!
So a new election year dawns for Texas in 2016. And we have about 687,413 probable Democrats who are over age 65 eligible to vote my mail. We want to be sure all of them vote in person if possible, but for those who cannot, we need to put a filled out, ready to sign and mail, vote-by-mail application in their hands.
So here’s the deal. There’s 198,825 seniors who actually voted by mail in the past elections! At a minimum, we want all of them to have an renewal application for 2016 before the March 1, 2016 Democratic Primary. And the icing on this Democratic cake is that when they do apply, they’ll automatically get their ballot next November to vote for the next Democratic President.
So we’re shaking the bucket once again here at the Beauty Shop. It cost about two quarters to print and mail an application to Granny in Kermit or Elmo, Sunrise or Sunset, or even Gun Barrel City or Cut and Shoot, or my favorite: Jot ‘Em Down!
We have some small counties who simply cannot raise the money for the vote by mail applications. You can help by donating. If you donate $5 or more, you will get an email from Susan to thank you from her own personal email address, but you must refrain from writing it on bathroom walls this time.

I got Collingsworth. I grew up there, and still have family up there that needs help voting. It will never go blue, but we can always hope.
1Thank you, Mah Fellow. Those red votes out of blue counties can help flip Texas.
2Just stuffed in $100. Use it for Llano (I’ve got kin there, who keep their D on the down-low), then for whoever else is closest.
3Done. I think. Pick a $25 county for me
4Thank you, Paul. You’ve covered a good deal of central Texas.
5Craig, we’ve got plenty to pick from! I thank you, Glen thanks you, and other 50 old people thank you.
6If they ever get through “processing” my contribution, you got another $25 to spend wherever.
If this is what it takes to get Democrats to vote….. Let’s git ‘er done.
From the election results I’ve seen this morning, we GOT to do something. 🙂
7Just tossed in $25 you pick the county.
8I found a little county I can afford. Done!
9Thank you, Miemaw, Chloe Bear, and Gramian. Y’all are the best. I promised Glen we’d get every small county and you guys are making my job easier.
10I’m in.
11Renee, I knew we could count on you. Thank you!
12I love Act Blue. With an express account it takes about ten seconds to complete the transaction. We have a busy election season coming up and Act Blue can sure save a lot of time.
I’ll take any old orphaned county or abandoned backwater. A vote is a vote where ever it comes from. (I donated under my real name which is not Ralph)
13Thanks, Ralph! You pushed us over $1,000!
14I’d like to adopt Madison. Keep up the great work!
15Jim, consider it done! The good folks of Madison County thank you.
16Okay, guys, I am outta here for a lunch date. I’ll be back later to thank you all.
17I’ll take Fisher or Jones or Haskell, whichever one isn’t taken. Or Floyd, where Floydada is. My Aunt Ruby taught about five generations of kids in Floydada and everyone in town called her Miss Ruby. I guess I better take Floyd County. Not sure there’s 25 Democrats left in that county….
18Thank y’all for putting together this gig. I’ve been thinking, is it true that only 17% of eligible voters elected our current crop of embarrassing officials down at the Capitol? If so, how many people would that be? Can we divvy em up and call ’em up and say honey, you really gotta vote this time? I’ll help make phone calls….better hurry while my left ear still has some hearing in it.
I put in 25$ for Hamilton County. If that is not enough let me know.
19I’d love the glory of covering Tyler (really?), Crane and Grimes. Sending $100 – think this is a great project!
20Almost at $1500 and it’s not even lunchtime.
Keep it coming! Granny needs a ballot!
21Use my donation money for any county that needs it!
22I got Callahan covered. Sorry we can’t do more. Had a difficult year, but I will always find a way to support JJ and Glen.
Thanks so much for all you do!
L.
23Glen have a note and a little cash to send you now, hopefully it will be more in the morning. Tonight is poker night and hopefully that string of good luck will continue. Most of my winnings go to support my ‘adopted’ Senate candidate for Reid’s seat. The alternative is Joe Heck (yes, that IS his name); hope he loses the Senate race and his current seat in Congress. He’s a spiteful little jack-wagon and as dumb as anyone Texas has to offer. He’s Gohmert st00pid.
BTW Glen, please don’t send us as many of your business cards this year. When Reno hosts the NGRA, there are only so many stalls in which to post your card.
24If Falls is still available, I’ve got it covered. If not, pick somewhere good.
25I just put my check out in my mailbox; the carrier hasn’t been by here today. I’m covering Knox, because that’s my maiden name; Hale, because my husband had kin with that name, and Newton, because my parents used to have a little cabin there that they loved to sneak off to. It’s another $85 and, yes, “the check is in the mail”.
No, really…. It IS in the mail.
26That Other Jean, you got it! Thank you so much. Glen has a whole ‘nother list if we finish this one.
27I couldn’t decide (Jeff Davis? “Laval” = “The Cow?”) so just made a generic donation.
28Thanks, autocorrect I thought I’d turned off but it can’t BE turned off…. That was “Lavaca” = “The cow”, I think.
29Glenn and Susan, I’m recently unemployed (if you have a sick tree, please let me know) but I threw a teeny bit of money in the pot. Thanks to both of you for all your hard work and care for this state. Your work matters, thank you.
–Dawn
30Elsie, Rhea, and SomedayGirl, thank you, thank you, thank you. You guys ROCK! I told Glen that we could count on Juanita’s friends.
31I just gave a heads up share to all my Facebook Texas friends.
32I am calling all my POOL(Pissed Off Old Ladies) Party friends to give here. We’very gone from bonding at the Summer of Love to bonding at the Summer of the Filibuster. There were a lot of cranky old ladies in the capitol, and all of us exchanged the “Don’t Mess With Mama” look as we passed in the halls. Not everyone could get to Austin, but we were, and we got to speak up.
Help everyone speak up. Praise the vote and pass the Metamucil!
33Done
For a husband and wife.
You don’t have to thank me, turning Texas will be thanks enough!!!!!!!!
But may want to send you grand baby pictures mid January!
34Sending $18 for Lampasas County. Hope it helps!
35I love PayPal! just sent you$50. but I’ll leave it to you where to put it……how about where you live, is that purple?
36sybil, I hope you sent it to ActBlue. We don’t have a pay pal account! Thank you.
37Carol, Diane, and Sweet Crabby – think you and everybody will get personal thank yous as soon as we finish!
38yes, it’s through ActBlue….you’ll get the entire amount.
39Didn’t see where to pick a county, so just use my modest contribution wherever it is needed. Thumbs up for thinking of this.
40Thank you, Sybil.
41Karey, thank you. We will let Glen pick. (You know, after I tell him which one to pick.)
42Fifty $$ headed your way, JJ, by way of ActBlue.
43Thank you, Tom. You just ensured 100 Democratic votes!
44I’m in … $25 is on its way! Please pick a county for me.
45You pick.
46Just did it for $50. Thanks for mentioning this. I didn’t know it was going on
47In 2014, I was unemployed and just could not afford to give to the ballot by mail effort. I got a great new job that I love last month and I need to start putting my money where my mouth is. I just donated $1,000 to the ballot by mail campaign.
48In from Los Angeles. Sent via Paypal as well – If there is a problem let me know, but the site gave the Paypal option.
49I want to cover Wilbarger County. My momma lived there for a while with my Great Grandma, Quinine Belle, and my Great Aunts Minnie and Lydia Belle. Yellow Dog Dems all of ’em. They’d so love to see Texas BLUE!
