Give Me Liberty University Or Give Me Death. Or Both.

Liberty University, the Chateau of Clueless founded by Jerry Falwell, has decided it ain’t real.

The decision by the school’s president, Jerry Falwell Jr., to partly reopen his evangelical university enraged residents of Lynchburg, Va. Then students started getting sick.

I dunno what everybody is so damn upset about. This is science. It’s a rare opportunity to see natural selection real time. Usually we have to wait thousands of years to see it. Now we’ll get to see it right freekin’ now.

When students started getting sick at the school with endowments of $2 billion, people in the surrounding community started saying they should not have opened the school.  Jerry Falwell, Jr., who now runs the joint, did what the right wing always does: he went from chest pounding arrogance to whiny victim in two seconds flat.

“We’re conservative, we’re Christian, and therefore we’re being attacked,” he [Falwell] said.

Michael Gillette, a former mayor of Lynchburg and a bioethicist now working with its hospitals on rationing scarce ventilators, disagrees.

“To argue that criticism of Liberty is based on political bias is unfounded and unreasonable,” he said. “Liberty just did not take this threat as seriously as others have.”

If Falwell thinks we’re going to let him kill a bunch of innocent people in surrounding communities without saying anything about it, he should be reminded that the Crusades are over.

So is my patience with these people.

Thanks to everybody for the heads up.

  1. Hey,
They could use the campus as a giant quarantine area for all the other conservatives in the area. Hire their own medical staff, get their own equipment and supplies.

All the government needs to do have the military put a big f#$king fence around the campus!!!!

Republicons/conservatives are about to experience exactly what their attacks on the ACA have meant to rural hospitals. Mostly closed, and the ones that remain open are barely scraping along budget wise. “Chateau of Clueless” (love that, btw) is in a location such that it will drain the already meager local resources. Keep preying Jerry Jr. ….

  3. Sometimes, when a person or group of people experience a tragedy, there are Christians who claim it’s a punishment from God.

I would never say such a thing. However, in this situation I’d suggest if anyone at Liberty University ever claimed God punished someone else for their actions, this moment may be the perfect time for inner reflection.

  4. “We’re conservative, we’re Christian, and therefore we’re being attacked,”

That’s a big ask for a virus. Finding conservative Christians that is. OTOH, finding people that refuse to follow isolation guidelines and then congregating, that’s just what viruses exist for…

Will Texas be checking student IDs looking for “Chateau of Clueless” students?

“Gov. Greg Abbott is tightening travel to Texas by ordering some motorists from Louisiana to self-quarantine for two weeks.”

Remember when Ron DeSantis left the beaches open? Not so much with Florida ports, as Ron demonstrates ‘compassionate’ conservatism.

“We cannot afford to have people who are not even Floridians dumped into South Florida using up those valuable resources,” he said, adding he is in touch with the White House over the fate of these ships. “We view this as a big, big problem and we don’t want to see people dumped in southern Florida right now.”

I checked their website – they do offer undergrad degrees in natural science like biology – so what do the on staff biologists say? It also said they are going to online classes even tho some students have checked back in at the dorm – maybe the teachers aren’t as dumb as the administration!

Ol’ Jerry Junior left off something. Here, let me fix it for him:

“We’re conservative, we’re Christian, and we’re dumber than dirt.”

An article I saw over the weekend said only 1900 or so had returned to campus on Monday and 800 had left by Friday, many of them showing symptoms.

  10. Harry Eagar says:

Part of Falwell’s justification was that his foreign students had nowhere else to go, which sounds reasonable, although traveling from another country to go to Liberty displays profound lack of judgement to begin with.

Query: If they all pray up a storm and still get sick, will the survivors come to their senses?

The sheriff of Hillsborough County, Florida, has issued an arrest warrant for a pastor who ignored “social distancing” protocols and held services yesterday. He appears to be well stocked with guns, so this could get messy.

Would be effective to quarantine–put a cordon around–any institution like this (was closed, opens again while pandemic still active, and thus requires students to travel from and through areas where they can acquire the disease.) That’s what *should* have happened with the Florida beaches…people insist on coming there, they can stay there for the duration (at least 28 days in quarantine, more if there continue to be symptoms showing up in the attendees.) Or just talk to the US AG, who’s decided to call anyone who intends to, or does, spread Covid-19 a terrorist and prosecute as same. Would love to see Falwell charged as a terrorist (since he basically is, spreading fear and hatred and now, disease. Just remind him, Jesus never said his followers should spread disease.
