Fun With Guns: Training Edition

My new mantra is that this is like the teenager who gets pregnant shortly after taking an “abstinence” sex ed course.
It also shows up the deficiency of gun safety courses…how hard is it to teach people that there may be a round in the chamber so don’t play with the slide. That a gun is ALWAYS loaded. This is the same mistake made by the guy in that police department in Texas who was showing his new gun to a colleague, pulled out the magazine and forgot the round in the chamber. Narrowly missed a colleage and shot out the window in the office.
Rule 3: Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target and you are ready to fire.

Did he miss his gun so much that he had to stop driving, pull it out and fondle it?

3Holy Gohmerts! Just when I thought I had a solution for the gun crazy gohmerts, they take gohmert to a new low.
Responsibility is a syllabication word beyond their intellectual skills, so I proposed SAFE. But no, the stuck on stupid gohmerts evidently mistook SAFE for being safe sex, not gun safety.
Yeah, yeah. Sex is for procreation, not recreation and guns are a right. Not expecting them to holster either their real gohmert or their substitute gohmerts soon.
The GOP gohmerts have zero understanding of the Gun Show loophole. Would they learn, if spokesman for Al Qaeda, Adam Gadahn, sent them a personal message. Apparently not, it’s been 3 years and the goofy GOP gohmerts remain stuck on stupid.

On a side note, Bobby Jindal, fell out of the clown cart today. While advising against giant stupid, he is in full voice singing some of the craziest gohmert voice ever.

4There was another Florida man who shot himself in the leg on his way home from a gun training class earlier in the month, too. I’m too lazy to Google it but I have to wonder if Florida’s gun safety classes might not be deficient?
(BTW you DO know that most of what’s told in these “safety” classes is just more NRA propaganda, right?)

8@PKM Makes a great point. Some of the illiterate tea baggers might trip up on the big complicated words in Rule 3. So here it is restated for our tea bag brothers and sisters:

10He was standing when he fired the weapon. The wound looks to be superficial and at a pretty extreme angle. I’m not trained to handle a handgun but I know enough not to point any weapon at the ground under my feet when I check to see if it’s loaded or, knowing it’s loaded, want to clear a round out of the chamber/receiver.
My guess? He was demonstrating to one of his buds how he’d throw down on a perp and deliberately loaded the gun and racked one in–then forgot about it–whipped it out with his finger IN the trigger guard and BLAMMO!

My daddy taught me all guns were loaded. The one time I accidentally pointed an unloaded gun at him (single shot rifle, chamber open) was the last.
My best friends wouldn’t even let their son point toy guns at people. I thought that a good practice to prepare for the “real world.”
13There was a guy yesterday who shot himself in the head, killing himself accidentally, because he was showing his girlfriend “gun safety training” and pointed the thing at his own head and pulled the trigger to prove it was empty. Oops!

16Southern Beale, my mamma took some college courses late in life and one teacher was anything but, using the class time the same way as that gun “safety” instructor did. She actually led a student protest and got rid of the teacher. Not bad for a little old blue haired lady! Rest of story: she did not continue on with the remaining courses that would have landed her a degree. By the time the “teacher” was retired by the administration, she had lost all faith n the institution. At her age she was not about to drive 30 miles in one direction to the next available college and trust to luck. But as she pointed out, she certainly was an “educated” woman!
17democommie: The wound shown is not the actual wound the story talks about. Note the image source: stock photo from Shutterstock, correctly identified at foot of story. Gotta watch newspapers and others these days–there’s a lot of stock photography used with stories when the paper or blog host doesn’t have pictures of the actual scene he/she’s talking about.
We need to demand accurate accounting for all firearm related injuries and deaths caused by anyone–law enforcement, non-law enforcement–including all the information possible. If individuals emerging from one gun safety instructor are 8 times more likely to unintentionally injure/kill themselves or another…then there’s a chance of de-qualifying that instructor and sending people to someone more competent. How many innocent, unarmed people are killed by law enforcement? Etc. We don’t know because the NRA has bought enough Congressbums to get a law passed that *prohibits* collecting such information.
