Fun With Guns: Stand Your Ground Edition

Essex, Vermont.

Police in this small town are investigating after an officer shot his own vehicle.  In cold blood.

Williston Officer Josh Hansell was handling a semi-automatic rifle when it accidentally fired during the police investigation of a driving offense on Saturday.

Police say the gun was pointing down toward Hansell’s cruiser, and that the round entered the car, damaging a floorboard and possibly the vehicle’s transmission. No one was injured in the incident.

Well, I bet the transmission would argue that with you.

  1. Polite Kool Marxist says:

Dumb with Guns Edition, “accidental.” Riddle me this lawman, when did STUPID become interchangeable with accidental?

True Blue, the NRA hates gun restriction laws. So, how about some safety rules? No dimwits can carry, including Barney Fife and his real life equivalents.

I’ve got relatives there. Have to make inquiries.

  3. Gulp! I’ve been there. Know some people. Good, kind people with many cows. Where did they go to find a constable? Maybe they can get their money back.

  4. PKM — excellent idea, as usual. If we can’t restrict guns, can we restrict idiots?

That’s what happens when you let your vehicles watch “Maximum Overdrive” – they get violent!

  6. Once more: there is no such thing as “accidental” discharge of a weapon.

There is “careless” discharge of a weapon. There is “incompetent” discharge of a weapon. And there is “criminal” discharge of a weapon.

People who carelessly, incompetently, or criminally discharge a weapon are undesirable and should not be in possession of weapons.

  7. Maybe the car had a flat tire and he was giving it a mercy killing. Anybody else remember the Bill Mauldin cartoon of the old cavalry man covering his eyes as he shot his broken-axled jeep?

Oy vay! Read this in the morning paper (face palm), then saw it made your blog. We do have our share of bozos up here, happily only a few of them are in the legislature.

Gee, if that car had carried a gun it could have defended itself.

  10. Right on Ralph. Where’s the good car with a gun when you need it.

@Ralph … my first good laugh of the morning! So true … so true!

Reminds me of Jerry Campbell, (American Hoggers on teevee) when “His trusty old pickup truck, nicknamed Possem’s Cod caught fire and had to be put out of its misery after decades of service.” He dispatched the truck with a single shot to the fender as well.
