Fun With Guns: Hotel Eight Edition

Over in San Angelo, Texas, a man needs to tend to his hygiene or there will be no dance partners over at Smoky Joe’s Dancehall and Bait Camp.

Screen Shot 2015-05-05 at 4.44.26 PMSAN ANGELO, Texas – An Andrews man was arrested Sunday for threatening to shoot a local hotel’s front desk clerk because of a lack of fresh towels.

The clerk was working the counter at Super 8 Motel, 410 W. Avenue L, early Sunday morning when he was approached by an angry patron.

Haughton Dean Laurence, 34, the allegedly intoxicated motel guest shouted and cursed at the clerk, requesting room service for towels, then pulled a handgun from behind his back and placed it on the counter.

He didn’t point it at anybody, but he wanted to make sure the towel delivery wasn’t gonna take all damn night.  A man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do.

The police arrived and booked Mr. Laurence into the Tom Green County Jail, where, wouldn’t you just know it, there are no fresh towels.

Awwww! I know the feeling. There is nothing as uplifting to the spirits and to the decor than fresh white fluffy bath towels folded up on the bathroom counter! Anyone at House Beautiful can tell you that!

Cleanliness is next to dogliness! Early Sunday morning? Sure sucks when the towels you threw on the floor at 7pm aren’t dry by 2am., when you stagger in drunk. Oh, I see; Haughton hadn’t showered, but had already packed the towels and knew he was a few short for completing his home stocking of clean towels. Poor guy, those protocols in an overnight motel sure must be confusing to a man used to paying the hourly rate.

The law clearly makes it illegal to carry while intoxicated.

That beer or whiskey will get you extra time. guns and alcohol just don’t go together, regardless of how many clean towels you need.

    Texas Penal Code
Sec. 46.035. UNLAWFUL CARRYING OF HANDGUN BY LICENSE HOLDER

    (d) A license holder commits an offense if, while intoxicated, the license holder carries a handgun under the authority of Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code, regardless of whether the handgun is concealed.

  6. No telling how many allegedly intoxicated guys I have seen sober up instantly after being assisted into a stall and administered a Kwell shower by knowledgeable experienced detention professionals. Fluffy towel optional.

  7. So if you carry your gun into a bar and then get intoxicated, you’re supposed to leave it on the counter, or in the restroom, or what? And if it’s illegal to carry a gun into a bar, don’t tell me nobody does it.

  8. Color me a pacifist, but the continuous ‘idiocy with guns’ makes me want to scream. When did a lethal weapon become as common as nail clippers or a pocketknife in someone’s pocket? Where is my right to be able to go to a store or work or anywhere else without having to look around to see who is ‘carrying’? AKs in grocery stores, gas stations, lunch counters? Seriously, if you have that need and are not a LEO, get some mental health assistance for your paranoia.
    Obamacare covers that!

Wait. Texas has a legal restriction on gun owners?????????
That is one step down the slippery slpe. Next they’ll want to keep guns out of the hands of drunks AND wackos. But that would pretty much disarm the whole state.
