Federal Judge’s Scathing Review of Barr’s Characterization of the Mueller Report

March 05, 2020 By: El Jefe Category: Corruption, Mueller, Trump

Federal judge Reggie Walton (appointed to the bench by GWB) issued a scathing opinion today about Bill Barr’s summary of the Mueller report, calling into question his “candor” and “credibility”.  He has ordered that the DOJ release the unreacted report so he he can judge for himself if Barr essentially lied to the public to protect Trump and bury the report.  A few meaty tidbits:

“The Court has grave concerns about the objectivity of the process that preceded the public release of the redacted version of the Mueller Report and its impacts on the Department’s subsequent justifications that its redactions of the Mueller Report are authorized by the FOIA.”

“…a review of the redacted version of the Mueller Report by the Court results in the Court’s concurrence with Special Counsel Mueller’s assessment that Attorney General Barr distorted the findings in the Mueller Report.”

And the crowning blow:

“The speed by which Attorney General Barr released to the public the summary of Special Counsel Mueller’s principal conclusions, coupled with the fact that Attorney General Barr failed to provide a thorough representation of the findings set forth in the Mueller Report, causes the Court to question whether Attorney General Barr’s intent was to create a one-sided narrative about the Mueller Report—a narrative that is clearly in some respects substantively at odds with the redacted version of the Mueller Report.”

Like all stories about corrupt officials, the truth of this particular corruption will come out.  This opinion by this Republican appointed judge is just the first step in dismantling the veil of lies constructed by Trump, his minions, and his corrupt attorney general.

It’s just a matter of time.

    And Trump’s attack on federal judge Reggie Walton in 9 . . 8 . . 7 . . 6 . .

  2. i will be so glad when the appointment president does not need to be mentioned for some judge’s opinion. I get how folks are curious but it’s still weird to mention in almost every decision. Being appointed by a repug president doesn’t guarantee that a decision is one that Trump will honor. (note, he only obeys ones he wants to) Also, it’ll be nice when sexual orientation is not used in descriptions of people. To be fair if we call one person gay, we need to call others heterosexual, or homophobic.

And Trump’s demand for an investigation of Mr. Barr’s lack of candor will begin – never.

It is good to know that at least one honest R judge has the courage to speak the truth, given the current purge mentality.
    5…4…3…
But will it come to anything?

What happens if Barr is disbarred?

OT– The economy might be hitting the skids for real.
The Asian markets opened a couple hours ago and are crashing, Chinese and Japanese markets are falling through -2% so far [Friday]. More to come?

After another dead cat bounce Wednesday [on Monday too], the US markets tanked again today, DJIA off ~-980, all off ~3.5%.
BTW, those dead cat bounce days were attributed to the Democrats stabilizing the race for Prez, and Biden going ahead [which should irritate the hell out of IMPOTUS, who tried to take the credit].

It’s catching up to the Grifter-in-Chief, the COVID-19 incompetence and developing manufacturing recession, tariffs, etc.
I’ll take a SWAG and predict the Dow dives -2000 tomorrow… Trumpette will be hiding out on a golf course.

  8. So, which agency enforces a federal judge’s order? And what if that agency is the same as the one the judge has ordered to comply? And what are the consequences these days for a failure to comply? Even if the order ends up in SCOTUS, what are the chances? This won’t end well for the judge or for democracy.

  9. The crowning blow – such pretty language that simply put days: Barr lied to protect trump. But I do like the pretty wording.

  10. Katherine Goebel and GeneB:
Those are the questions aren’t they?
IMHO, Our first amendment rights in the age of social media have been weaponized against us. Freedom from religion, freedom of speech, and freedom of the press.
And as a result, the system of checks and balances written into the Constitution between the three coequal branches of government have been bastardized.
Turns out there’s not much binding…, anything requiring the legislative and judicial branches to check the executive.
Plenty of precedent. But nothing binding. Effectively binding. Consequences for Senators that voted to aquit?
None. Consequences for judges, especially supreme Court justices? Pages in legal history books.Turns out that for the entire history of our democracy a helluva lot has depended on the honor and integrity of our elected leaders to act in good faith to perform their constitutional duties. And for the most part, they have with this kinda crap. At least enough of them to preserve the republic. Now? Notsamuch.

  11. Change days to says

  12. Agreed . . . there will never be an official investigation into Barr’s corruption, hence no jail time. Frankly, if this piece of rotting whatever would just resign and walk away, even to another country where perhaps his resume of corruption is normal, I could live with that. As long as he loses his law license in this country. And is not protected by any law that would prevent him from being sued over the Mueller Report or anything else he did while in office. Translation: a long, slow slide into oblivion.

And the general public will not care. They’ve already forgotten about Mueller, they’ve not a clue about who Barr is, and the Presidential campaign is (once again) being reported as if it were a horse race instead of a discussion of the issues.

    And cue the Biden/Burisma investigation.

  16. Sandridge says:

OT again– US markets majorly sinking, the Dow is down 700 points in the first hour… could be a -2000 day by the close.
Crude oil price is down ~$3.50/bbl, at $42.47/bbl >7.5% and falling fast.
Gas pump prices are already ~$1.85-2.03/gal around here [reg, 87Octane], wait until next week to fill up, they may be in the $1.50/gal range by then.

  17. The Surly Professor says:

No big deal if Barr is disbarred – the constitution does not require the AG to be a licensed lawyer. In the good old days (pre-Jan 2017) a president would dump a disbarred AG, and if the president did not act, the House and Senate would quickly ditch the guy. But nowadays being qualified for the job is no longer a requirement.

As to what will happen: the flying monkeys from Fox News will be released and next week 40% of the electorate will believe that the judge is actually an Obama appointee. No enforcement or even embarrasment will accrue to anyone in the (mal-)administration.
