Dear News Outlets – STOP Carrying Trump “Briefings” Live

April 07, 2020 By: El Jefe Category: Alternative Facts, Coronavirus, Lie, Trump

I was talking to a reporter today from a local network affiliate who expressed frustration at Trump’s successful hijacking of the evening news by holding his Coronavirus “briefings” every single day during that time.  During said “briefings” Trump stumbles from one irrelevant subject to another, lies in a continuous stream, attacks previous administrations, insults everyone who dares disagree with him and has now taken to cutting off medical experts from answering key questions asked by the media.  Very little important information comes from these briefings and the incessant lying has become a serious threat to Americans’ very lives.

It’s long past time to cut Trump off.  His oxygen is media coverage.  He’s a gameshow host who doesn’t know shit about actually running anything successful except attracting media coverage.  It’s time to cut off that oxygen and send the clear message that 1) HE doesn’t control the media, and 2) The media’s obligation is to provide actual useful information that is TRUE to their audiences.  I don’t care in the slightest about Fox and OAN suckers.  They’re on their own.  I’m talking about normal Americans who desperately need information that can help them make their own decisions for their own lives.

It’s time for the networks to wake up and cut Trump off.  Report what happened, but take away his stage.  Take back control of the news hour.  In other words, get off your ass and do your goddam job and stop being intimidated by the biggest bully in the history of the US.

Be social and share!

Happy to say our local stations cut him off days ago. Let’s face it, tomorrow’s weather forecast is infinitely more useful than anything the orange guy says. And..a shout out to Gov. Lamont who does terrific daily briefings, answers all the questions, defers to experts.

One of the reporters should ask him about his investment in Sanofi – the company that makes the “drug” he keeps promoting. WaPo said it was a significant investment.

    Overdue.

Four years overdue, but, yeah. Let’s do this!

  6. Maybe the handlers could tell Trump he’s a prize, a really really big prize, then allow Dr. Fauci to manage the briefing.

At the end of the presentation Dr Fauci then asks one of the reporters to pick – –
    Door #1?
    Door #2?
Or would you like Door #3?

With any luck they’ll always pick one with a goat or cat video looping on a screen behind it.

  11. I checked with my local PBS station earlier today and learned that they were no longer carrying his nightly blather.

  12. WA Skeptic says:

Pleased to note that even the local Sinclair station has cut his rambling nonsense and restored “Wheel of Fortune”!

Hey, McConnell; you guys had the means to spare all of us from this ignoramus and you didn’t do it. I hope you choke on your cash.

    12
  13. I keep watching and hoping that as soon as Trump is rude/bullying/nasty to a reporter they will all stand up and as a group they will walk out.

    13
  14. I wandered into a reasonable Twitter thread yesterday about how awful Trump is treating reporters. There were many comments in agreement, followed by a string of “those horrible reporters are only asking him gotcha questions” type comments. I’ve no idea if those were real people or bots. But I wonder… what would be an example of a non-gotcha question? One where you ask him what a “great job” he’s doing? I mean, really!?

    14
  15. I don’t listen to him anyway but I did think that there were at least two media outfits that were cutting him off after a few minutes. Good for them!

  16. Jonathon P Hubbert says:

As it is Pesach at dusk, I am want to say, “Amen, to that!”.

    16
  17. I like Trump!! Not because he is any good, but because he is a hhUUUUGGGe pile of crap!!! And has shown so many people, especially the rabid Bernie aholes in 2016, for being the hate-filled bigoted aholes that they are!!! We now know that at least 6million people cannot be trusted to think or act in a manner that is intelligent or good!
    Get him voted out!!!

    17
  18. One of our local restaurants has a note on its menu cover – something to the effect that preparing good food can take awhile so if you’re in a big hurry to eat, there’s a McDonalds across the street.

Besides dropping TV coverage, there should be a banner at the screen bottom explaining the briefings’ fictional nature is an insult to their viewers and refer stragglers to the Fox News affiliate instead.

    18
  19. AMEN, AMEN, AMEN! It is so far PAST time to mute that orange toad.

  20. twocrows says:

Remember 3+ years ago when the media did a deep soul search and admitted that they had selected Trump all by themselves?

That, by covering his clownishness relentlessly and ignoring the actual policy proposals of the other candidates, they had successfully pushed all other Republican candidates off the stage.

And then they went on and on and on about Clinton’s emails and continued to breathlessly report Trump’s antics.

    And here we are.
And here the press is doing it all over again — no matter how many petitions they receive asking that they cease and desist.

Way to learn the lesson, people.

Prepare yourself for 4 more years of Trump.

  21. Buttermilk Sky says:

Trump’s lies about hydroxychloroquine have found a receptive audience, I’m sorry to say, in Texas. They are experimenting on nursing home residents without anything resembling informed consent.

  22. dobleremolque says:

Trump is so proud of his ratings.

Deprive him and the outlets that carry his “briefings” of those ratings! Don’t watch. QED.
