Terminal

Trump called for “termination of the Constitution.” I think Arnold Schwarzenegger should sue.

They are having trouble getting any Republicans to disavow TFG’s statement.

Rep. David Joyce (R-Ohio) on Sunday declined to denounce former President Trump for  suggesting the termination of the Constitution’s election provisions over unfounded claims of mass electoral fraud in 2020.

Meanwhile in Iran, they abolished the Morality Police and the hijab rule is under review.

Damn, y’all.  Which direction is up?

As a sidenote, I just heard from one of my The Carolinas friends. He says while he’s thrilled that Biden wants to move the opening of the Democratic presidential primary to South Carolina, he just wants to warn us that this will certainly result in North Carolina want to open reunification plans.

Why South Carolina? Biden is president today because he got a last minute strong endorsement from Rep. Jim Clyburn. What a lovely way to say thank you!  And …. What the hell kind of chance do you think Kamala Harris would have of winning Iowa or New Hampshire?  Come on, man.

The El Grande Cringe

December 04, 2022 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Texas Congressvarmint Dan Crenshaw is quickly becoming the man most likely to make you cringe in Texas.

He’s currently involved in a Battle Royal with the Federal Elections Commission. While the ultimate victor is yet to be announced, Crenshaw has signed an agreement to pay one of the biggest fines I have ever seen the FEC levy. But, don’t get too excited because he agreed to accept a $42,000 fine for taking $200,000 in illegal campaign contributions.

The problem is that he’s not paying back the illegal contributions at a rate you’d expect from a man who fully admitted he took the contributions knowing they were illegal, and – hold on to your panties – think he might can be president one day.

The money came from 125 individuals, two PACs, four corporations, and three limited liability companies, the FEC said. The prohibited corporate contributions included gifts from law firms, real estate entities, and a wealth management company, according to FEC notices.

The campaign appears to have drawn the stiff fine after failing to return the contributions in a timely manner. In fact, more than a year and a half after the FEC first flagged the violations, Crenshaw still hadn’t released all the money. And the money he did turn over had claw marks on it.

The FEC sent the first of four notices in October 2020, and in December of that year the campaign promised it would either return or re-designate the unlawful contributions. But the vast majority of the refunds and re-designations—more than $207,000 worth—were returned “between 115 and 612 days late,” well outside the 60-day grace period, according to the report. As of this May, the campaign still hadn’t returned $3,216.50.

Dan, if my light bill is 612 days late, I’d be sitting in the dark melting.

Good Lord, Dan, it’s been two years, a couple of galas, a book tour, and a mini campaign ad with you jumping out of airplanes. Pay your fine and admit you’re for sale or at least for rent.

Try Harder, America!

December 03, 2022 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

We have some pretty crappy scandals in this country.  Hunter Biden has a laptop – a laptop he’d rather not share with the world. Oh my.  Hillary Clinton had – shocker! – email. Can you even imagine a grown woman with email? Donald Trump wanted to grab women by the papaya. Honey, you could smell perversion on that man in the next zip code. Admit it, when you saw that guy, you put your fruit under lock and key.

Nobody understands financial crimes and scandals because we’ve never had enough money to criminalize it. Shoplifting and hot checks is about all that’s left.  Louie Gohmert has probably come close to that, but he’s not in office anymore and that takes all the fun out of it.

Hell, you can have dinner with a damn Nazi and it appears to be the fault of southern hospitality and good manners.

Nah … America needs a fun scandal – a scandal we can understand and enjoy.

Like South Africa.

They say it appears to be about $500,000 but that he could have stolen up to $3 million.  And put it in his sofa like a damnfool.

Now, that right there is a scandal we can all enjoy.

Did you see this?

November 29, 2022 By: Half Empty Category: Uncategorized

Governor Kristi Noem of South Dakota has drawn on an inside straight in this right wing conservative poker game of “Bestest MAGAn Ever”.

By Noem’s official decree, no longer will a South Dakota public employee be able to post to, play or access the world’s most popular social media site, TikTok on a state-controlled device.

From The South China Morning Post:

“The Chinese Communist Party uses information that it gathers on TikTok to manipulate the American people, and they gather data off the devices that access the platform,” Noem said in a statement.

And with this ace of spades, I think she has a winner.

Because we all know that TikTok is China’s main vehicle to not only tap into and extract our country’s most closely kept secrets but also to ruin our finest traditions.

The ChiComms will have to find another way to expose and exploit the hidden lost treasure of El Dorado that we all know (because we saw it on TV) is situated behind South Dakota’s Mount Rushmore.

They won’t be able to disrupt SD’s next motorcycle rally in Sturgis, either. We get and develop our best public policy statements at the Sturgis rally, you know.

Verrrry canny. Ron DeSantis is going to have to reach deep into the recesses of his bag o’ tricks to give Noem her come-uppance.

A Fall From Grace

Politics brings out the very worst in all of us. That could be no more true than what we have witnessed from Mattress Mack over the last several months. It started when Mack broke a cardinal rule of business when he openly endorsed Alex Mealer for Harris County Judge.

Lina Hidalgo won re-election in a very close race. In her celebration speech she referred to the forces against her and referenced a “furniture salesman”. Maybe she should have left well enough alone. Maybe she could have mentioned him but in an effort to reach across the aisle to repair broken relationships. She certainly was respectful when she referenced Mealer herself. You are almost always better served when you can be magnanimous.

Mack forgot that lesson. He responded with a full page ad in the Houston Chronicle. This is a failure on so many levels. It is a failure on Mack and those around him. Someone should have gotten to him much sooner and told him not to openly endorse Mealer and do so publicly. He can support whoever he wants and he can certainly contribute to any campaign he wants to, but his reputation deserves more than that. Those that have been in business for any length of time will tell you how foolhardy it is to openly support either side.

Someone should have gotten to him before he sent this letter into the Chronicle. They should have told him to hang back and let the water flow underneath the bridge. The Chronicle itself probably should have either declined to accept it or should have urgently swayed him against wanting it published. It made him look small. It threatens his legacy and he has built quite a legacy in the Houston area.

I was introduced to Mack (not personally but in terms of consciousness) when I was in junior high. That was approximately 35 years ago. He spoke to our junior high. I saw his business grow out of literal tents into a furniture empire with multiple branches. We saw him stand up during hurricanes, tsunamis, and other crises in town and around the world.

He became Houston’s biggest fan. Whether it was the Astros, Texans, Rockets, or University of Houston, he was there cheering the loudest. Did it help his business? Sure. Being a good guy got him a ton of free advertising. Yet, there was also little doubt that it came from a genuine place. He also circulated in Catholic circles as well. All of that pointed to his likely conservatism, but he didn’t broadcast it. He stayed above the fray. That is until this year.

Maybe there is still time for him to fix this. Maybe someone around him will convince to reach out to Judge Hidalgo. Maybe she will reach out to him and extend an olive branch. It would probably be the best move from both involved. I suspect he will realize that he made a big mistake and we hope he does before it is too late.
