Oh, Good Lord

There’s a saying in Texas that the only reason Texas doesn’t slide into the Gulf of Mexico is because Oklahoma sucks.  Republican State Representative Brad Boles of Oklahoma ain’t helping much.

He’s all worked up over an abortion bill and he forgot to use his Republican outside voice.

Thanks to Keith for the heads up and his comment, “It is almost as if this chucklehead is auditioning to be a member of the British royal family.”

Yep.

Susan Rice

Susan Rice now occupies the office that formerly occupied by – brrrr shiver shiver – Stephen Miller.

Everyone was reminded of that when a picture taken inside her office was posted on Twitter and there was clearly sage burning in a small bowl.

Somebody let her know that we can get her the toe of a frog and the eye of a newt if we can get the Gingrichs to stand still for a minute.

Thanks to SGray for the heads up.

It’s No Secret

Lindsey Graham admitted that Trump has a dark side, but Graham says he stays around Trump to try to “harness the magic” that makes Trump able to succeed where others like John McCain and Mitt Romney have failed.

“The magic is racism.”

— Democratic pollster Cornell Belcher, in an interview on MSNBC

Well, there ya go.

Because They Are For Life

March 10, 2021 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Because Republicans in the Texas State House are 100% pro-life, they have come up with a solution for women who have an abortion – kill her.

A Texas lawmaker has filed a bill that would abolish and criminalize abortions, leaving women and physicians who perform the procedure to face criminal charges that could carry the death penalty.

The legislation, filed Tuesday by state Rep. Bryan Slaton, does not include exceptions for rape or incest.

The whole thing makes me want to throw up, but the second paragraph sends chills down my spine.  This is not about life, this is about ownership.

This won’t pass, but the fact that 20 Republicans voted for it the last time it came up, tells me that there are 20 men in the Texas State House who think I’m a baby machine and nothing more. Y’all, can we make stupid on government property illegal?  Come to think of it, that would solve a whole mess of problems.

Just Thought You’d Want To Know

Our local Republicans are all glittery and jittery because they are going to be able to have their annual Lincoln / Reagan Day Dinner on April 9th at the Safari Ballroom, thanks to Greg Abbott opening Texas.  Tickets start at $150 per person and go to $10,000.

It’s their big annual fundraiser so they schedule the best speakers they can get. Which ain’t much because the county flipped blue under the unable leadership of the guy who just got elected to the state legislature.

Yeah, the best speakers they could get are Ted Cancun Cruz and Felony Indicted Ken Paxton.  I guess they were going for a Duo of Dopes theme.  They might get real lucky since Paxton is currently under investigation for hanky panky that caused his entire senior staff to resign, he might be double indicted by April 9th.

Seriously, that’s the best they could do.

I guess we can always hope for an enchanting evening of insurrectionist storming the ballroom and stabbing a couple of cops with American flags on flag polls.

The upside is a whole room filled with people crowded together not wearing masks and spitting on each  My money is on Darwin winning.

Cuomo

It is amazing that in the era of 24 hour news, the internet, and social media we are nowhere closer to a world with fuller context than we were before. Andrew Cuomo is only the latest politician to be embroiled in scandal. We all know he won’t be the last. His story and our story has so many layers and so many sides that one can scarcely tell where to start.

There is the obvious question of whether he is guilty of harassment or worse. As usually happens in situations like this, the vultures are circling. More and more people are coming forward with their own stories to tell. This obviously cuts both ways. Sometimes it is because you have a horrible person and people finally have the courage to report incidents that also happened to them. Sometimes it is merely blood in the water and the sharks are circling.

From there, there is the question of where to go from here. There is the simple question of what would be appropriate in a perfect world with the knowledge that there is a huge double standard. Democrats guilty of bad behavior fall on their sword. Republicans guilty of bad behavior get a seat on the Supreme Court and a seat in the oval office. Should that even matter?

I’m definitely not a tit for tat kind of person. It’s one thing to point out a double standard, but it is quite something else to allow that to govern our actual day to day activities. Either we advise someone in Cuomo’s position to resign or we don’t. If we think there is a path forward for him then there is a path forward for people in situations like him to move forward. If there isn’t one for him then there isn’t one for anyone in a similar situation.

What makes it harder is that we all know of situations where people were falsely accused. When it becomes multiple accusers then you could easily have both simultaneously. It’s difficult to strike the balance between presuming innocence while also giving the accuser the benefit of the doubt. Both sides deserve consideration. I know people have strong opinions on this topic and I invite all thoughts. Having a strong opinion doesn’t necessarily mean we know the wisest course of action.”
