Watching the Mitt Hit the Fan

July 29, 2012 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Come to find out, the oh-la-la business success that Mitt Romney touts in his run for the Presidency is based on his use of shell companies in two offshore tax havens.

Romney gained no personal tax benefit from the legal operations in Bermuda and the Cayman Islands. But aides to the Republican presidential hopeful and former colleagues acknowledged that the tax-friendly jurisdictions helped attract billions of additional investment dollars to Romney’s former company, Bain Capital, and thus boosted profits for Romney and his partners.

So, let me see if I have this straight.  Romney is going to grow our economy by putting it in Bermuda.

Hell, sounds like the best Republican plan I’ve heard so far.

One More Reason Why I Just Hate ‘Um

I just hate Republicans.

Governor Rick Perry gutted public education in Texas so he wouldn’t have to raise taxes so he could go make a damfool of the entire state by running for President.

Ole Rick is still prancing all around singing his own praises for not raising taxes and boy howdy ain’t he the financial genius that taxpayers just love?

Remember when your school supply list was a notebook, some paper, a box of crayons, a ruler, a protractor, and a couple of pencils?

Oh no, not now.  Check out the elementary school supply list right here in suburban Houston.

I added this up and, conservatively, you’re at $50 per kid not counting a Batman backpack.

Now let’s say you have two kiddos, that is a big expenditure.  So, the tax break I get is passed on to those who can afford it least – young families with children in public school.

Rick Perry raised taxes – he just did it on the back of public education.

And that’s another reason I just hate ‘um.

Talk the Talk, Walk the … Check’s in the Mail

You now how Republicans are always saying how they support small business.

But only in theory.

The failed Republican Presidential candidates have left a trail of small businesses in a lurch across the county.  Michele Bachmann rented golf carts to ferry around supporters in Iowa and the guy who owns the golf cart company is still waiting to be paid.

Other Republican contenders such as Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum owe even more; their campaigns are $4.85 million and $1.69 million in the hole, respectively, according to their most recent federal campaign reports.

You know, the fiscal conservatives.  The talkers.  The guys who say we shouldn’t have a national debt.

“Sadly, we haven’t reformed the bankrupt tax-and-spend policies that we decried [through] Ronald Reagan some decades ago,” Bachmann said at a National Press Club speech in July 2011. “We have merely replaced them with a new and insidious scheme called borrow-and-spend.”

Turf Cars owner Cal Campbell says the Bachmann campaign left the golf carts on campus with the keys inside. “When we went to pick them up, they were destroyed,” he said.

Newt Gingrich will pay his Tiffany’s bill but not the services of a small business he owes.  That’s the way Republicans are.

I want you to listen to me because I am right about this.  You know how the Republicans say they want to balance the budget and pay off the national debt?  Honey, they are all George W Bush.

Yakity Yak, Behind Your Back – UPDATED

Mitt Romney has decided to ban the media from his fundraiser in Israel.

Damn media – they keep quoting him correctly and you know what that means … guffaw fodder.

On the other hand, reporters generally find out what is done behind closed doors because somedamfool always talks or leaves the backdoor open.

Romney has a history of delivering different messages to his donors when reporters are not present to hear them. At a closed-press fundraiser in Florida this spring, reporters from NBC News and the Wall Street Journal, without Romney’s knowledge, overheard the candidate outline new tax policy proposals and suggest that he might dramatically downsize the Department of Education and eliminate the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

So if he’s willing to kill HUD and kneecap the Department of Education to get money and votes in Florida, can you even imagine what he’s promising behind closed doors in Israel?

And on the flip-flop front  —

The campaign’s decision to close the fundraiser to the press violates the ground rules it negotiated with news organizations in April, when Romney wrapped up the Republican nomination and began opening some of his finance events to the news media.

Romney’s position on issues is like the weather in Texas.  If you don’t like it, wait five minutes … it’ll change.

Thanks to David for the heads up.

That was the flip.  Here’s the flop.

Mitt Romney’s campaign has reversed a decision to not allow the media into a fundraiser here Monday morning, bowing to reporters’ demand that they be allowed to record the Republican’s address to some of his top donors.

Hey, it’s only Sunday.  It might flip back before tomorrow morning.

Stay tuned.

And That’s Why We Call Him Dick

July 28, 2012 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Dick Armey, the ohcrapyes he’s from Texas former House Majority Leader, was on CNN  following the Aurora murders.

Dick. Just Dick.

He says we should not have gun control because somebody could get in a car and run it into a school bus and kill people.  Guns don’t kill people,Dick Armey kills people – they die of laughter.

Follow this exchange.  As Soledad O’Brien points out that the suspect in the Aurora murders had no criminal record and could obtain as many guns as he wanted, Armey smugly brings up the whole well, cars kill people argument.

“If in fact he had not been capable of acquiring the guns, he might just as well taken a car and driven it into a school bus,” the tea party leader replied. “You can’t focus on the object by which a destruction was committed — be it a hammer, a gun, a truck, a car. Focus on the aberrance in the individuals that do this.”

“Why not do both?” O’Brien wondered.

“More people are killed in automobiles every year than they are guns,” Armey insisted. “I don’t hear anybody talking about banning automobiles.”

“But they say you have to wear a seat belt, right?” O’Brien noted.

“Whatever,” Armey quipped.

Whatever?  That’s his argument?  Whatever?  What is he, a fourteen year old girl?

And, as someone pointed out, we regulate cars a bunch.  You have to have it inspected yearly.  We limit speed.  We have stop lights.  Your tail lights have to work.  You have to have  tags.  You have to have a driver’s license.

Colorado does not require a permit to purchase the assault-type AR-15 rifle that was used in the Aurora massacre. Rifle owners are not required to be licensed and rifles are not required to be registered in the state.

Cars, however, must be registered and drivers are required to be licensed and insured.

Dick Armey – that’s why we call him Dick.

Thanks to Kathleen for the heads up.
