Home!

June 29, 2014 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Okay, we are home from the State Convention.

The platform is 65 pages long and it’s a doozy!   It is a document that I am exceedingly proud of.  It will be online within a week.

Gilberto Hinojosa was reelected chair by a vote of 6,999 to 335.   I think that’s a mandate.  My beloved friend Fredericka Phillips was elected vice chair of the Texas Democratic Party.  I got reelected, as did Bubba.  It was a good weekend.

As soon as I get unpack tomorrow, I’ll post some pictures and get my butt back to work tomorrow morning.  As soon as I wade through 1,287 emails.

Here ya go – why I love, love, love Leticia Van de Putte.

Holy Cow

It is 3:00 Texas time.  I have been sitting in a windowless room since 8:00 am with 30 other people writing the Texas Democratic Party platform.  This is the third day of this.  You damn well better  love the TDP platform.

And The Good Guy With a Gun Was Asleep in His BarkoLounger Unarmed

June 27, 2014 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

So you’re sitting in your own home minding your own business on your own couch with your own wife.

An Oklahoma home was damaged last weekend by a howitzer artillery shell fired from a gun range three miles away.

The artillery shell – which is 14.5 inches long and 3.5 inches across – crashed through an exterior wall, hit the ceiling, and damaged another wall while homeowner Gene Kelley and his wife were in another room, reported KOAM-TV.

“It’s unbelievable,” Kelley said. “Unless you were here to see it or see the pictures I’ve got, you would not believe how huge this thing is.”

Oh, I won’t take much convincing.  This is kinda huge even by Texas standards.  By Oklahoma standards, it’s colossal.

Homeowners say if the shell had not first hit a tree limb and then the ground, the impact would have been a lot more severe when it hit the house.

The gun range owner is saying he’ll pay for the damages but that this was just a “freak accident” and everything they did was perfectly safely.  Obviously not.  I’m no expert on home construction, but that hole does not look safe to me.  That, of course, could just be me because I don’t live in a war zone.  Or Oklahoma.

Next it’ll be, “oops, we had no idea that tactical nuclear weapon would have nay fallout.  We fired it by the instruction book.”

The homeowner, in the understatement of the year, said,”The people that bring these type of weapons need to think about whether it is really safe and an appropriate area to take a weapon of that magnitude and shoot it.”

Ya think?

Thanks to everybody for the heads up.

No. No. No. No.

Sorry, you just have to go look for yourself.  You would not believe me if I told you.

Thanks to Kyle for the heads up.

Oh Those Wacky Supremes!

June 26, 2014 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

The Supreme Court voted nine to zip today to strike down a buffer zone at abortion clinics.  This allows nut to shadow women into the clinic screaming in her ears.  This permits First Amendment shaming.

NARAL has an interesting picture.

Yep, The Supremes have a much, much larger buffer zone.

I wonder if they have a mirror.

Thanks to everybody for the heads up.

Stolen From Alan in Austin

June 26, 2014 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Customer Alan from Austin wrote this and it cracked me up.  Enjoy!

The high bar for hilarity got set when a spike buck got caught up in the clothesline and ran off with my aunt’s drawers, but this ranks right up there…

Well that rascally TPer McDaniel has been stompin’ and rantin’ about how those eeeevil Demon-cratz crossed party lines and just up and helped Cochran steal the runoff from “legitimate” Republicans. In fact, McDaniel is so fuming mad that he’s won’t concede defeat and has yet to say if he’ll even support Cochran as the party nominee.

Note that crossing party lines to screw with the other side isn’t new — see Rush’s “Operation Chaos” — but move over auntie because the bar just got set higher:

“The conservative candidate [McDaniel] running against Sen. Thad Cochran (R-MS) voted as a Democrat in Mississippi’s state primary in 2003, according to records obtained by the Clarion-Ledger in Jackson, Mississippi.”

Before the summer’s out, I expect to find a GOP candidate in MS involved with a gay transvestite coke-snortin’ illegal underage alien hooker.

Politics in Mississippi hasn’t been this much fun since the ballot box bounced out of the back of a station wagon and went over the bridge, never to be found — or so it’s said. Sometimes I really do miss my home state. Sometime when you’re back Austin way and we finally get a chance to meet, I’ll tell you the story of how liquor laws changed in Mississippi. Hint: It involves a governor, a Mardi Gras party, and a drunk sheriff.
