Bernie Hit on Multiple Fronts
I think everyone is aware that Bernie’s campaign essentially ended with his heart attack last week and he’s admitted that he’s “scaling back”. Worse, it’s now being reported that his daughter in law, Rainè Riggs, died suddenly a few weeks ago from a rare disease. Riggs was married to Levi Sanders, Bernie’s son. I believe Bernie is done.
I personally thought it was a terrible idea for Bernie to run again this year when the stage was set perfectly for him to be a major player in guiding the Democratic Party into the post Trump era. I didn’t want it to end this way, though.
Roger that.
1He wasn’t ever my first choice.
But I love the guy.
And he drove, and may continue to drive the progressive narrative.
Sympathy for him and his family.
I doubt he’s done.
2And we certainly don’t need another corporate stooge “Centrist” running instead. That will get the same results as 2016.
I fear Bernie is done in this cycle.
The heart attack will be exageraited the thugs will lie about how often and the health smears will be unrelenting.
Espiacially noww that facebook has stated that bald faced lies in political ads are a ok as long as they get paid.
Demented Donnies attacks on the house impeachment process is setting up an excuse for moscow mitch to deny any senate action on an “illegal” house impeachment or for demented donnie’s refusal to vacate the premise if it does pass the senate since the “process was flawed”
3Yes, I loved and supported him last time around (but ultimately didn’t have a problem voting for Hillary), and I still love him but haven’t been able to zero in on one possible candidate this time around. Too many great ones. I too think his candidacy is finished, but I hope he keeps fighting for us in all the ways he’s so good at. He’s an amazing man, and his whole life has been dedicated to that fight. He’s had some tough breaks lately, and it’s time for him to scale back and take care of himself and his family as well as the rest of us.
4I don’t know if he’s done or not. But watching him run is kind of like watching (American) football: Lately I feel guilty watching when I know debilitating, devastating, permanent physical damage could happen at any time. And the players risk losing their minds at a young age…
5I agree. Sorry it came to this, but a heart attack in the middle of the campaign smacks of, “He just won’t be up to the most stressful job on the planet.”
After all, look how even the healthiest presidents age during their terms in office.
And, as I’m certain we all remember only too well — simply the fake narrative put out by the Trump campaign that Clinton’s health was perilous doomed her campaign — even without the Russians’ help.
6I read she died the day he got out of the hospital. I’m younger and it would have done me in.
7As a realist I know this is probably the end of public confidence in him but I’d take Bernie in any condition ( even life support) over what we have now and above most of the Dem front runners. Yeah, even if I knew there was a good chance he’d drop dead in office. That’s what V.P.s are for. He’s the real deal and there’s no replacing that.
Can’t hardly improve on P.P. @1’s comment. Bernie’s cool, he’s moved most of the Democratic Party ‘leftward’ away from that damned “Third Way” pseudo-centrist bullshit, more towards what it used to stand for.
twocrows @5, exactly. HRC was pushing herself through a bout of flu or whatever, had a minor stumble/dizzy spell, and the trumpissts and Rethugs were all over it.
But Comrade Donnei pays a quack Dr for a phony health certificate and they just lapped it up [like his crooked daddy Fred paid/leaned on a tenant podiatrist to ‘diagnose’ Comrade Bonespur’s Vietnam-era draft evading imaginary heel problem].
BTW, just saw a PBS NewsHour interview with HRC and Chelsea, she’s still the best, sharp, tough, looked damned healthy to me.
What could have been, goddamn it… instead, thanks to MAGAots, Russians, worthless “purist” Dems, et al., we have a 24/7/365 shitshow rolling disaster.

8Nah, Bernie’s not done! Stents will keep people going at pretty much the same pace for a long time. He’s dialing back a bit on the pace, but he’s not packing it in.
Don’t count on the Dems to take him into their fold. The inertia built into the establishment will guarantee that he’s excluded. It’s going to take the surprise of a huge number of under-35 voters to shake their crystal palace.
9Ah, a eulogy. Will there be a public service held? I’d like to attend.

MSM oligarch controlled media pundits comments on Bernie Sanders.
All quotes are from the video up there if you have not watched. The same sources most people get their news from today.
– "Democrats like someone new and that is not going to be Bernie Sanders."
– "Its really hard to imagine who the Bernie Sanders voter is at this point."
– "He's a socialist from the 1950's in the same screechy voice, yelling at people without smiling, without any personal connection. He looked like the angry man in the center of the stage, yelling get off my lawn.
– "At this point, Bernie Sanders… fall back please get away from us."
– " I think your disheveled, your unlikeable and your pushy and I don't think you should be leading anybody."
– "Its almost like Bernie can't tell the difference between kids and adults."
– "Gloria Steinem is suggesting that younger women are supporting Bernie Sanders so they can meet boys."
– "I don't understand younger women who support him. "
– "I think he comes off as mean. I think he's disparaging."
– " Bernie Sanders makes my skin crawl and I can't even identify for you what exactly what it is.
– " Bernie Sanders has done nothing between 2016 and today."
– " He sounds very, very, SHOUTY!"
10Megasoid posted the video I was going to recommend. Don’t buy the media hype, Juanita Jean.
BTW, I notice Elizabeth Warren is being set up as the “respectable” alternative. Like Goldwater girl Hillary, she’s a former republican whose “new” wealth tax proposal echoes one Bernie made five years ago. She’s a hawk on Iran, and has declared Medicare-for-All a nonstarter. She’d certainly be better than Trump, but Bernie is the one the plutocrats *really* hate.
Notice, BTW, that even if he loses, Bernie has set the agenda for all the debates and the thrust of the Democrats’ message. If he does nothing else, he will have already experienced a significant victory.
11Boy, did that video piss me off. My intention was to vote in the Republican party for Weld, should he even get on the Texas ballot. Thought I would support anybody who got the Democratic nomination. Looks like the fix is in at MSNBC. It ain’t Bernie.
12To Adam Eran @11 – If you look at the Rightward turn this country has experienced, you will note that so-called “left wing” Democrats are about where liberal Republicans were back in the ’60s. I’m not surprised that there are liberal Democrats today who were Republicans 40-50 years ago. Their politics remained the same, it’s just that the country has skewed hard right in the intervening years.
Let’s be honest, if Medicare/Medicaid were being proposed today for the first time, the MSM and the Republicans would be screaming about “Socialistic medical plans” and throwing up their hands in dismay (cue the fainting couch). Whereas, when Medicare/Medicaid passed under President Johnson, the doomsayers were considered to be far right kooks.
13To cgregory @9: You’re probably correct about the DNC excluding Bernie.
However, the Senate Democrats like to brag on him:

I do a “Twitter roundup” every day on my Facebook page (screencaps). I’m adding this video to it.
To megasoid @10: Thank you. Adding this every day, also.
14Bernie uses a thank you to voters to address his health care talking points.
He’s back folks and speaking… what was it again? Oh yeah, Truth to Power.

Bernie Sanders said he intends to compete as aggressively as ever for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination after suffering a heart attack last week, saying he “misspoke” when he told reporters he planned to scale back the relentless pace of his campaign for health reasons.

@BernieSanders
At the end of the day, we have one life to live, and you ask yourself, what role do I want to play?
That role must go deeper than defeating Trump.
We must create a country where people are working to take care of each other.

16We need Bernie’s voice, his gravitas, and his chutzpah more than ever. Let him be a senior statesman–because that’s what he is–without the strain of being President.
BTW, when you’re Bernie’s age, there is no such thing as a minor heart attack.
17Thanks for the write up. Did you hear that AOC just endorsed Bernie Sanders as the Democratic presidential candidate. I really didn’t think Bernie would keep campaigning after his heart attack. Anyway just thought that was crazy.
