A lot of what I post here has to do with local politics, but you probably have the same folks in your local government.

1Neutron, “normal” doesn’t mean what you think it means, if you think you are “normal” by any stretch of the imagination.

Back in the 1980’s Gary Trudeau did a cartoon series on Reagan’s brain. He drew a diagram of a statement starting in the amygdala then doing an end run around the neo-cortex and out the mouth.
Yep, that about sums up Newt.
4Whites are a minority in the world.
Men are a minority in the world (and in America).
Americans are a minority in the world.
It would seem that being a non-white, non-male, non-American is the norm.

I guess I don’t get it, because this is one of the few times Newt seems to be making sense. As a normal white person, I don’t completely understand being black in America. I can be horrified by what I see, I can sympathize with it, but I can’t live it and know it.
He also went on to say, “”It is more dangerous to be black in America. It is more dangerous in that they are substantially more likely to end up in a situation where the police don’t respect you and you could easily get killed. And sometimes for whites it difficult to appreciate how real that is and how it’s an everyday danger.” I can totally agree with this statement.

Sounds like you’re “normal” Americans are clueless. Maybe you should talk about that. Just sayin…
9Trish, the difference is that you understand that statement. Neutron was merely wrapping the words around his tongue, before he spit them out. It’s guaranteed that he never wrapped his brain around the words. Odds are Neutron has a new speech writer or he plagiarized those words.

The newt has never been normal. Among other things, he was born without the compassion and fidelity gene. Among many, many other things.
12Debbo, totally right! Without compassion and fidelity there is a paucity of nobility.
13I guess I misinterpreted Newt’s comment, and agreed with him in the implication that “normal” Americans are getting close to the definition of “oxymoron”. The fact that he caught a lot of flak over the comment from those who pick apart every comment, and find the nuance illustrates the fact that so many people only skim the surface (as I apparently do).
14With Newt, I always assume that he defines normal as white, male, straight, and conservative. That has been his pattern in the past. Whether he’s suffered a real sea change or not I don’t know yet, but the best guide to future behavior is past behavior, so whether he’ll ever admit non-whites, females, LGBT, and liberal to his definition of normal, I sortakinda doubt.
15So Neuter assumes he is normal, which is laughable. Rudy Giuliani presumed to use the phrase, “If I was a black father…”
16and then proceeded to give advice to black fathers and sons.
Old, white,rich Republicans are know-it-alls who never got it and never will. They should not be afforded air time.
ABsolutely now know exactly why Rudy dropped out of the prez race some years ago. That Father Always Knows Best Thing, particularly and only a father like him!
