Abbott Misinformed about Weapon Used in School Shooting

May 25, 2022 By: El Jefe Category: Fun With Guns

One thing Abbott said right after the shooting yesterday caught my attention and I’ve looked into it since.  In his first update, Abbott said the shooter, who shall remain unnamed, entered Robb Elementary School with a handgun and “may have had a rifle”.  It later came out that he didn’t use a handgun, but an AR-15 that shoots a 5.56 MM round, a standard caliber for an assault rifle, of which he had just bought 375 rounds.  He carried a bag with 7-30 round magazines which totaled 210 rounds, not counting what was already loaded.  He had another AR-15 in his truck.  There is no report that I’ve seen that he had a handgun.

I doubt seriously that Abbott doesn’t know the difference between a handgun and an assault rifle, so I can only assume that Abbott was trying to misinform/play down the fact that the weapon of choice for mass shooters was also used in this shooting.  You certainly call AR-15s rifles, but there is little resemblance between this rifle and the .22 bolt action rifle I pinged tin cans with when I was a kid being taught to shoot by my uncle.

Abbott leads Texas in gun nut insanity where it’s beyond comprehension that at age 18 you can buy an AR-15 and whatever amount of ammo you want, but you can’t buy a handgun.  This is the stupidity causing the deaths we endure in Texas today.

Just watched Beto O’Rourke calling out Abbott at his press conference (and get physically removed). Somebody needs to have the guts in Texas to do it in Abbott’s face and Beto does it.

Abbott [and his staff] apparently missed updates on the shooter’s weaponry and ammo. Sounds like he was relying on something from yesterday that said a handgun [and didn’t bother with the question about which Texas law allowed him to get a handgun]. Then the story shifted to a handgun and rifle. Only this morning did the accounts settle to be “rifle” — and that he bought two, but only carried one.

I saw pictures of the Archbishop of San Antonio showing up in Uvalde. Any bets he will consider “teaching” Texas politicians who do nothing about 18-year-olds shooting? Or that he will refuse communion to those who continue in their willful disobedience and enable those who break the Sixth Commandment.

  3. The shooter had seven 30-round magazines. Seven. A total capacity of 210 rounds before he would have had to stop and refill them. No one – well, no one except the average reconstructed gun nut – carries that many unless they’re going to war or they have something like a mass shooting in mind.

What civilized society gives anyone the legal option to carry that many rounds on their person? The right answer to this question isn’t the United States of America because the United States of America is not a civilized society.

  4. there are way too many ‘mericans that think outlawing AR15s and other assault weapons is in violation of the 2nd Amendment. This is PURE BS! They can outlaw AR15 just as they outlaw rockets and grenades, tanks and other forms of assault evils.

Beto sent out a long email this afternoon about the Uvalde situation and DID NOT ask for a donation. I bet Abbott, Patrick, Phelan et al have been drowning registered GOPers with donation requests.

The statements by Abbott and the NRA were very similar since the shootings yesterday. Lone deranged person did it. Nothing about his fricking AR-15 and body armor that even armed professionals couldn’t stop. Ya, more needs to be done about mental illness, but start with the deranged politicians and gun lobby that don’t get it over and over and over.

Last week Miss JJ wrote about Marcel Fontaine, who was falsely accused by Alex Jones of the Parkland murders. It’s happening again.

A-butt and every Qcumber Nazi Party loser supported by the NRA and gun manufacturers needs a serious dose of reality. Military style weapons in the hands of demented individuals are an obvious sign of the dual problem of the need for mental health care and sensible FEDERAL gun legislation.

Tell me why an 18 year old kid needs to buy body armor or any one else.

  13. JDS2017 says:

Maybe this doesn’t matter, but my mind keeps returning to the same questions. It has been estimated the two assault rifles and ammunition cost around $3,500. Where does an 18-year-old kid get that kind of money? Who paid for those purchases? Isn’t that in itself a big red flag—to someone?

  14. Nick Carraway says:

JDS2017 has the right question. Of course, some others before have good questions as well. Why is it legal for private citizens to buy body armor? How was this kid able to afford the entire arsenal? Why does any private citizen really need an AR-15? I don’t know if Beto’s stunt will help him or hurt him.

I was discussing this with my wife who is hopping mad. Her father is a gun owner and she was taught gun safety growing up. She is also a traditional conservative who saw her party leave her. She’s voted blue the last couple of election cycles. She said that Beto’s move would help with Democrats and hurt with Republicans. I asked about independents (since she is one) and she said no one is truly independent in this race.

Scarborough just read off a list of mass shootings. Everyone involved an AK5.

I hope I have the name right, but Abbott attended a fund raiser 300 miles away. now the whole Klan bunch on that stage are going to the KKKNRA meeting!
