It’s Come to This
I know you’ve heard about a runoff in Texas last week over filling a vacant congressional seat. The odds on favorite was the wife of a deceased congressman because she had Trump’s endorsement, his $100,000 contribution, $1.2 million from Club for Growth, and all manner of MAGA mannerless rants.
However, Susan Wright lost. Polls until election day had her up by as much as ten points. But, then there was a report from the field …
It was from a campaign worker at a polling place, and they said the kinds of voters who were showing up had “definitely changed.” How do you know that? Langston asked.
“Because they’re all wearing masks,” the worker replied.
That gives me hope that Paxton’s on the way out!
1“… they’re all wearing masks.”
And yet Republicans have not figured out they’re killing off their base.
2The anti-mask and anti-vax crowd are what’s called the Control Group in any Science Experiment.
3If we’re rlyrly lucky, this might be an indication that the maskhole MAGAots are finally beginning to die off from their own stupidity. A galactic sign from the universe that a semblance of balance and sanity will be returning to this mangled mudpit of misery.
Oh what a happy day, when a very significant number of them have desperately passed on to their just and fitting rewards [perpetual oblivion].
4If that’s what it takes to finally vanquish the Rethugs from our political landscape, so be it, bring it on. Delta variant or worse, hell yes…
I read that trumpf said he did not lose in supporting a candidate that lost. I can understand that from the biggest loser.
5I also read that his “chief of staff” mark meadows says he, the big orange loser and their “cabinet” met at the golf club to discuss their plans for resuming the presidency- actually he said trumpf is still president. Delusional is all I can say, but people believe it, don’t wear masks or get vaccinated.
Fertile creatures for covid for months to come.
More than lost, she got stomped: 46.73% to 53.27%. The only problem is the runoff was between two republicans. If she had been up against a democrat, she would have won. Way too many people saying “I’d never vote for a Democrat”.
6I read that trumpf said he didn’t really lose when his candidate didn’t win. That makes sense from the biggest loser.
7I also read that his “chief of staff”, mark meadows said that he and the big orange one met at the jersey golf course with the “cabinet” to discuss resuming the presidency- actually he said trumpf is still the president. All I can say is delusional, but people believe him. The repugnantican party is truly sick.
“Why the GOP Wants to Kill Its Voters” provides some observations on this phenomenon.

8Wearing masks? In Texas? And the Trump-backed candidate lost? Words fail me, but hope does not.
9I’d feel a whole lot better if she had lost to a Democrat. Can’t get too excited about a Rethug winning a seat. Still, it makes me smile to think that the Orange Moron is losing his influence.
10I suspect those mask wearers were Democrats making sure that Trump’s pick lost.
11I live in the Sixth. All that money bought daily mailings from Wright’s campaign for about three weeks. Mostly hyping the endorsement from TFG, but also talking about preserving American values yadda yadda. And, yes, I voted wearing a mask. Good thing I had a photo ID!
12AK Lynne, that’s exactly what I think. Pretty humorous, even if it turns out to be not true.
13Any local analysis of turnout? How much of a drop off from last year’s general election, to the multiple candidate race to be the replacement, to the replacement run-off? And does someone go public with partisan breakdown of the voters who were dedicated to come out for the third election in 9 months?
14Just had to chuckle over this! Made my day!
15if you are wearing a mask and don’t want to take it off, what is the point of having photo ID?
16Maybe the Lone Ranger is engaging in vote fraud.
17Understand miss lindsey has covid. He’s crediting his vaccination for his mild symptoms. I don’t recall his being a strong advocate for covid safety measures in the past. He’s a bit late. What I wish he’d do now is go give kevin mccarthy and trumpf big smooches on the lips. Spread his message around.
18Steve:
Lindsey Graham tweeted out his vaccination in late December or early January, making him one of the first Republicans to make any public statement of support for the process. He included recommendations as part of his “state working period” in April. He publicly backed Biden’s goal to vaccinate in the US and the donation of vaccines to other countries.
With this latest event, he’s crediting the vaccine with keeping his symptoms mild.
As Republicans go, he’s one of the most supportive.
19John in Denver @19 re: Miz Lindsey being supportive…. well, maybe. Still wish he’d slobber all over McCarthy and TFG though.
20John in Denver, I stand corrected. I missed the news of lindsey changing his tune. I’m probably blinded by his ass kissing the covid denier in chief. That’s who the cult listens to.
21Still don’t have any respect for miss lindsey.
John in Denver: you’re asking the right questions at 14. After the 2020 election the Texas Democratic Party released a good data analysis:
https://www.texasdemocrats.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/2020-Texas-Election-Data-Analysis.pdf
They might do the same for the run-off; I’d keep an eye on their web site for it. And the PDF linked above is still worth reading, in preparation for the 2022 and onwards.
