Maybe Trump and Abbott Got Their Orders

October 27, 2020 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

The New York Times reports that Putin is mandating mask wearing during Russia’s new wave of corona virus.

The directive was unusual because President Vladimir V. Putin has resisted taking any nationwide measures to stop the virus’s spread in recent months, delegating the battle to regional leaders. And after a nationwide lockdown in April and May caused widespread economic pain, officials have been loath to order any new business closures, even as the infection rate reached new heights in recent weeks.

Sound familiar?

And right in line with Putin, Texas’ own governor, Greg Abbott, is ordering 1,000 Texas Army National Guard troops to the polls in five major Democratic strongholds in Texas on election day.  The purpose is either to suppress votes or start trouble.  They are just trying to make it safe for the bad boys to start fires and then run pointing fingers at minorities.

All five of these cities have excellent sheriff departments who are perfectly capable of handling any problems.  People are voting, you don’t need a damn army.  I thought the whole purpose of voting was the peaceful transfer of power.  Apparently, not in Texas.

Houston already allocated $4mil for extra HPD. Maybe Abbott could send the guard to Terlingua, or Idalou, or Looneyville, or any other cities in Texas that may need them!

  2. would like to hear from the mayors/chiefs of police/county judges/sheriffs about their desire for the ‘assistance’

Seriously, Greg? To the heavily Democratic polls with your troops. Yeah. Those commie women possibly stocking tampons in their purses are way more dangerous than heavily armed right wing incels stalking democratic elections. Greg, there are false equivalencies, then there’s the soap you pull out of your over active imagination.

To be fair to Greg even the more evolved of us are not altogether comfortable discussing female hygiene products. But sure hold a semi-automatic rifle to my head as your response. Got it Greg. Ironic isn’t it, ladies, that Republicon men are hands off about discussing your products while being all in about controlling your reproductive rights?

The symbolism of sending in the troops to democratic leaning areas is not subtle. It’s to intimidate voters in those areas so they don’t vote. This will be a week of shit like this from scared-of-the-vote politicians, starting from the WH down. And Fox “news”. Hope it backfires spectacularly.

Steve from Beave you guessed it, Abbott is hungry for those sweet Fox News minutes. He’s got a vision of being the first handicapped president (not morally handicapped, his idol Trump won that honor). So he’s always on the hunt for the next Trump-like decision he can take, one that will generate some Dem outrage, since that’s what will cement his name recognition (gotta make libs cry to make some omlettes). I’m happiest when his stupidity lands like an autumn leaf on the forest floor, soundless and unnoticed.

I had a dream … me too, Rev. King, me too. My dream is not so far removed from your halcyon time in the 60s. 2020 and dreaming of a robust RFK style US Attorney General or someone to open a can of whoop-ass on those states that have drifted so far toward repealing all intents of the VRA. Will Eric Holder be that guy? He’s been battling in courts everywhere with a team. What if anything he and others can do after this election is part of that dream.

NV is “good” for 2020. We have a Democratic governor and a dynamic state Democratic Party chaired by William McCurdy II. We have mail-in ballots, early voting and election day voting. And plans, lots of plans. Even here in District 2 where Cliven Bundy’s bois and the like are not all that rare. But trust that they will not be intimidating anyone. We’ve got this.

But that’s also the curse. It’s all good when we have a Democratic governor and amazing chair of the state Democratic Party. But what about 2024 and the other 49 states, too? Elections are state controlled, but we need a federal government that balances the scale in the interest of justice. Who will be our RFK? From the state AGs and AG offices, who are those people because we seriously do not want a President Biden stripping the US Senate for talent. Every Democratic vote is needed there.

“…Sir Horace Rumbold, British Ambassador in Berlin, began to revise their opinions. On 22 February 1933, he wrote,
“Hitler may be no statesman but he is an uncommonly clever and audacious demagogue and fully alive to every popular instinct,” …”

RFK got thrown into the AG seat because he had a famous brother who wanted “his” choice to help him manage the DoJ his way.

I suspect there are a variety of former DoJ headquarters deputies / assistants (Sally Quillian Yates) who would be willing to come back if asked nicely. There are a whole corps of former US Attorneys for federal districts who demonstrated skill (Preet Bharara). And there are state AGs (Keith Maurice Ellison) who might be willing to go to the DoJ if there is competent leadership who will let them do some work.
