Told Ya So UPDATED!
.
Remember how I told you that Republicans can’t plan worth crap?
I was right. Their convention started today.
God forbid they should hire a technical expert. They just did it all on intuition.
If they can’t manage a Zoom convention for less than 2,000 delegates, what makes you think they can have a plan to open schools or get Covid under control?
UPDATE! Scratch opening it a day late – it’s gonna be two days now.
After struggling to kick off the virtual gathering Thursday, the party’s executive committee has voted to wait until Saturday to resume business, hoping it can use the time between to smooth things out.
They’ve had two years to plan this sucker, and at least three months to know it was going to have to be a virtual convention. They chose to spend those three months fighting their “freedom” not to wear masks.
Honey, they caused this problem and now they even save themselves.
Do not let them lead this country.
To make matters even worse for themselves, now Allen West, remember that guy?, is running for Texas Republican Party Chairman against the incumbent and will probably win. I could not be happier. Flip Texas blue!
Our church – think volunteers – started using Zoom in March. If a bunch f old folks can figure it out, how hard can it be!
1It seems that it would be a common courtesy (not unlike wearing a mask), to help them out with their convention by tying their masks VERY tightly.
2Brad Parscale seems to suddenly have extra time available, maybe he can data lynch the Texas Republicons out of their hole.
3Perhaps they hired one of Jared’s buddies as their tech consultant. Or maybe Larry Kudlow.
4Republicans – – try unplugging The Zoom, wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in.
5Karma. Just plain damn old karma!
6Grandma #1, came to say the same thing!
Also, the Unitarian Universalist Association just held their first virtual General Assembly the last week in June. It went off with very few hitches and no delays. Delegates were sent an email with credentials which we entered at first login. That opened up vote and debate areas on the main page. It was fantastic!
7This is the era of post-truthiness. This is the era of ‘Because’.
As in “Because Boss Tweet said”:
And Boss Tweet said to follow the rest of the lemmings in “that” direction…
8Since Zoom seems to be what all the Kool Kids (and more than a few of us Cantankerous Old Folks) are using nowadays, here’s a useful tip:
https://www.wired.com/story/auto-mute-yourself-zoom-meeting/
Basically Zoom has a setting that will keep your microphone muted, and you hold down the space key to speak. When you let up on the space key, it goes back to automatic muting. It’s especially useful for some remote meetings:

9What Grandma Ada said….It took me 15 minutes to learn how to convert my business to Zoom (and I’m on the shady side of 65), we’ve been zooming church since mid-March, and our local and state parties have been completely on Zoom without a hitch.
Forget about hiring a technical consultant. Hire a 12-year-old and they’d be ahead of the curve.
10I can’t wait for the national conventions. I’m counting on the Dems to hit it out of the park, and the Rethugs to fall on their collective faces and embarrass themselves.
11“Forget about hiring a technical consultant. Hire a 12-year-old and they’d be ahead of the curve.”
You do have to put up with the eye rolling, but it’s worth it in the end.
12Remember all the snide comments when the Obamacare website crashed on the first day?
(crickets)
13Had to go get my laptop fixed. Clerk told me their expert would be in as soon as his mom picked him up from middle school
14Buttermilk Sky: you don’t have to go back that far. The Iowa Democratic caucus results weren’t instantly available (because they did choose an untested system, to be fair). But since the results weren’t available for a day, it was a clear sign of “Democrats in Disarray!” and “Democrats are Incompetent!”.
But you’re right, it’s still for this, and other than here at the salon, as far as I can see the national media are not picking up on this.
