In An Argument With A Republican?
This morning the New York Times did us all a great favor. It gave us the anwer to every defense the Republicans have made of Trump. One by one.
I agree with them that using the term Quid Pro Quo was a big mistake on our part. First, nobody knows what that means, but more importantly, it’s not illegal. Extortion is illegal. This was extortion.
Trump extorted Ukraine with money that a bi-partisan congress passed giving them the damn money. Trump had no right to withhold the money or to extort an entire country with it. It’s not his money. It’s our money. He cannot use it for extortion for his own personal gain.
However, my advice for the day is this: do not get into an argument with a Republican. Anyone who thinks that making fun of handicapped people is okay is not going to listen to reason.
Thanks to Kary for the heads up.
Someone went into Barnes & Noble and replaced the covers of Trump Jr’s new book

We changed the cover of @DonaldJTrumpJr’s book to make it a little more honest and put them up in @BNBuzz. You’re welcome, Junior! #DonnyLovesDaddy cc: @realDonaldTrump

3I wish the House would look into Dolt 45’s taxes and track the reasons why “All roads lead to Putin”. Treason would be on the table, along with extortion.
4Whenever I hear quid pro quo, I think Hannibal Lector and Clarisse Starling.
5Arguing with a Republican is like playing chess with a pigeon. It knocks over all the pieces, craps all over the board, and then struts around like it won.
6My criterion for whether or not it’s worth the time and effort to argue politics with a “conservative”: I state that Jimmy Carter is the best ex-president the U.S. has ever had. Not president, but ex-president. If they stop and spend a few seconds thinking about it, they can be reasoned with. If they immediately try to contest it, I walk away.
7Josh Marshall over at Talking Points Memo says it is a case of bribery which is specifically covered by the Constitution as an impeachable offense. But I like extortion too!
8I don’t mean to disrespect anyone, but I’ve seen waffles that were smarter than the few Republicans I’ve ever met.
9That NYT article was excellent. We all need to use more understandable words like extortion, bribery, self-dealing and so on and drop the Latin or French legal terms. I’d also like reporters to quit saying “Democrats subpoenaed person X” when they should say “The House Intelligence Committee subpoenaed person X.”

11Us democrats and especially the media ceded the power of branding to the rethugs wordsmiths back as far as I can remember – “red scare” – “Cold War,” “abortion rights”- “choice,” “religious Freedom” – “discrimination,” “liberals” – “Democrats,” “quid pro quo”. – “extortion,” as dumb as they are, when it comes to controlling the media with their branding on every issue- they come out like damn geniuses. SMDH(and dizzy as hell from it)
