Rumors! Fresh Rumors! Get Them While They’re Hot!
Well, lookie here.
A Nevada congressman told a local news station that there is a ‘rumor’ that Speaker of the House Paul Ryan could soon be resigning.
Representative Mark Amodei told Nevada Newsmakers on that Ryan is getting ready to resign in the next 30 to 60 days and he will be replaced by Representative Steve Scalise (R-Louisiana).
Supposedly, Ryan is resigning to start his run for the presidency. Yeah, him and about 20 other white men.
Personally I think he’s resigning because everybody else is and holy cow it isn’t like he has any control over anything in DeeCee.
Thanks to SGray for the heads up.
I am sure his job on K Street is already lined up.
1Aw, Cheryl! Are you sure nobody in his hometown wants him back?
2Not to mention his chances of re-election diminish daily. And, holy cow, would it be embarrassing for the speaker not to get re-elected.
3“Retirement” sounds so much better than defeated by political neophyte Randy Bryce, then roundly blasted out of the Speaker position by the eat your own snacilbupeR caucus after the midterm rout.
2020? 2024? Lyin’ Ryan has about as dim a chance as Mikey Dense. Maybe not as hated as Teddie Crooze, but a definite difficult to lipstick pig.
4Ryan says he’s not resigning.

5Could Mr. Speaker be tied to all the Cambridge Analytica shenanigans that have infected republican elections since at least 2014? He seemed awfully cooperative with Nunez’ attempts to undermine the Mueller investigation. Have to wonder why.
6And Paul Ryan will soon have some friends visiting. 40 high school kids from Shorewood High (affluent) are continuing the March For Our Lives by walking 50 miles from Madison to Ryan’s home town. On their spring break.

7He’s been dropping hints that he’d like to retire for awhile now. I think he’s just covering his bases because he knows he’s not long for that world.
8Well sometimes a rumor is just a rumor and sometimes it’s not. So a rumor could be a suggestion worded in the strongest possible terms. Or a rumor could be a longed for outcome which would be best for everyone involved. Or it could be a testing of the trending direction of the wind. Or the on-coming storm.
Or, it’s just a rumor.
9Could be he’s afraid of what might come out of Trump’s impeachment trial…
10He is fishing for bids from lobbying firms. They will be lined up to reward him for the tax cuts.
11Can you imaging him being minority leader with Nancy Pelosi as Speaker again? She will do to him what he has done to Democrats.
And he knows that he is so far in over his head and fears he may end up being President when Trump and Pence get impeached.
And he is in a tough battle for reelection. He’s one of the worst Speakers in history and he needs to go, one way or the other.
12By May 18 ryan has to file with board if he is NOT running, June 1 for filing paperwork ( signatures etc.) for primary, August 14.
As I understand it now the only other person in R primary for lyin ryan’s seat is an out and out nazi much like the r nominee for Ill 3.
Could be trying to recruit some one who, like ryan, can at least appear to have sembelence of sanity if one doesn’t look to deep.
This being March 27 60 days would go past the may 18 deadline for paperwork on NOT running.( a 72 hr ext. is poss.)
A full 60 days would, depending upon date of resignation, would run right up against filing deadline and blow by may 18 deadline for non competeing paperwork.
Perhaps he is hoping to stay on primary ballot and quit thus possibily (unsure of this) allowing R central committee to appoint an alternative. Some states follow this rule ( Penn. as an example) others don’t can’t find Wisconsin law on this.
Or he runs and if he wins retires immediately ( ala gingrich and scorborough after suspicios death of intern in his office) thus, again depending upon Wisconsin ;aw may allow an appointment rather then special election. Leg. is suppose to meet to change these laws upon gov. walkers request.
Laws in flux a party that ignores the laws when ever convienent.
Faced with choice of either recruiting a candinate that is not an embaressment, and god knows for r’s that is an extremely low bar – Ill 3 R’s just gave nom. to a actual nazi, or cedeing his seat to the d’s since no r has the courage to face the stache.
All this may be an attempt to avoid the shame of losing. Difference between Retired Rep or just an Ex rep. Status and possible some perk’s I do not know.
13Oops revealed my ignorance. A little checking and found
““When vacancies happen in the Representation from any State, the Executive Authority thereof shall issue Writs of Election to fill such Vacancies.”
— U.S. Constitution, Article I, section 2, clause 4”
This seems to be absolute for first session( year). 2nd session (year) seems to have some flexibility.
“Or he runs and if he wins retires immediately ( ala gingrich and scorborough after suspicios death of intern in his office) thus, again depending upon Wisconsin ;aw may allow an appointment rather then special election. Leg. is suppose to meet to change these laws upon gov. walkers request.”
So this should be viewed as unfounded concern.
14Except Gov. Walker has/ is showing that he is willing to ignore laws and delay elections upon a whim so who knows?
Remember Jingles, Roy Rogers’ buddy, well I figger Paul Ryan is so full of Koch Brothers loose change that he Jingles when he moves about, therefore it is time to sack it up and take it home?
At the same time, seems to me a different wind is blowing after all this Cambridge Analytica stuff (good Maryelle comments above). And it appears more than a few GOP Reps relied on assistance from CA during the last two election cycles.
I can hear Nowhere to Run, Nowhere to Hide playing in the overhead of Bob Mueller’s very crowded office spaces.
15Steve Scalise is a white supremist. If he tries to be speaker it will all hit the fan. Popcorn time.
