Fun With Guns: Big Brother Edition
A 21-year-old from Draper was taken to the hospital Saturday night after being shot in the leg while showing off his new gun.
Sgt. Dan Ko with Draper City Police said around 7:30 p.m. the man was showing off the gun to his little brother in their Draper home.
Ko said a bullet went into the man’s leg. Authorities say the victim’s brother was able to stop the bleeding with a tourniquet and the 21-year-old was transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
I think “showing off” may be the key words here. However, it’s an outstanding attempt to teach your little brother about gun safety.
Thankfully it wasn’t a bullet through his little brother’s head.
1Cleaning out the gene pool one bullet at a time.
2“Showing off” is an apt description and seldom bodes well in a news story.
3I expect the shooter’s little brother learned a valuable gun safety lesson.
4All dumba$$ redneck fairy tales, such as this one, begin not with “Once upon a time” but “Here, hold my beer, you ain’t gonna believe this $hit…”
5My 10 year old grand daughter in Houston has a friend her age who is way behind in school, has no basic common sense, and is pretty much a bully. So what do her parents do? Take her to a range and teach her to shoot. My DIL insists that they keep their artillery locked up, and bullets away from guns, and I called BS. Anyone who thinks an immature 9 year old can safely use a gun is dumber than her parents. My DIL is educated, hates guns, and generally on point with her parenting, but this blows my mind. I really don’t want to go home to Michigan in a week and then find out my precious beautiful smart as a whip grand daughter was shot because her friend or the parents decided to show off something Maggie can do that Anna can’t. And the way Maggie’s mom hovers over my DIL and wants Maggie to be just like Anna, it wouldn’t surprise me a bit.
6Frankly, I think little brother is going to grow up – if big brother will let him – to become a doctor! By the by, just how old enough and big enough do y ou have to be to tie
7tourniquet?
The 7:30 PM timing of the incident should help Draper detectives determine the actual cause of the shooting:
If beer was involved at 7:30 PM, we have a drinking problem.
8If beer was not involved, we have a thinking problem.
This entire tragedy might have been avoided, if only little brother had been armed, too. Riiiiiiiiiiight?
9PKM, yes, the little brother should have shot the gun out of big brother’s hand when he saw that big brother was going to shoot himself.
Just read an estimate– because the NRA won’t let us find out for sure– that 3% of Americans own 50% of the guns. Feel safer?

10Rhea, it’s just the NRA’s way of taking our minds off the lead in the drinking water.
11My brother teaches concealed carry here in Las Vegas. He says there are no gun accidents – that anyone stupid enough to shoot himself/herself or another person is just stupid.
12PKM –
13You make a good point for arming all members of the family. If only Abel had been caring a knife or spear when Cain attacked him, the world might now be a better place.
I’ll wager the little brother is a Scout, and if Salt Lake Council is on the ball, they’ll get that kid a medal for his lifesaving use of a tourniquet.
And maybe it’ll show up in “Scouts in Action” in Boys Life, and others can learn, don’t play with guns.
14Patently obvious big brother was no Air Force veteran. He didn’t aim high enough. No, I have no sympathy for fools/tools such as this.
15Ah, me… So many guns. So few legs.
Sssiiiiigggghhhh….
16Micr: Having lived all my life in southeast Texas, I gotta say, that’s hilarious and sad at the same time. Cause it’s true. And as far as showing off, that’s the unwritten first commandment in the shooter’s bible. Though shalt prove to they neighbors that thou haveth a gun and not afraid to bring it forth.
17Isn’t the way to stop a bad big brother with a gun a little brother with a gun?
18Thank goodness the idiot shot hisownself and didn’t hurt his much smarter little brother.
