You Wouldn’t Understand
There’s a perfectly good reason that Donald Trump is not releasing his taxes.
You wouldn’t understand them. Because, I guess, you’ve ever paid taxes.
“You would have a bunch of people who know nothing about taxes trying to look through and trying to come up with assumptions on something they know nothing about. It would be foolish to do,” Eric Trump said in an interview with CNBC.
His other kid jumps in, too.
“He’s got a 12,000-page tax return that would create … financial auditors out of every person in the country asking questions that would detract from [his father’s] main message,” Trump Jr. said in an interview with the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review published Wednesday.
And his main message is You Cannot See My Taxes.
On the other hand, I do suspect that the fact Trump doesn’t pay taxes would distract from his message. They got that part right. And that, my friends, would be easier to find that the pitcher’s mound in Yankee Stadium.
I guess folks are just too stupid to understand his tax return. That explains why they’d vote for him….
1And that his taxes paid equal his charitable contributions, each of them a nice round Zero. His personal motto is “Gimme more!”

Boy, the turd don’t fall far from the anus, does it?
3Funny, I thought his message was that he was such a YUUUGELY successful businessman so obviously he would be the most fantastic president. Ever. Yuuuge. What better way to show us than to let everyone see his taxes and how much money he’s made. So now you’ve got to wonder how the deplorables feel about Donnie telling them not to worry their pretty little heads with something they wouldn’t understand. Kinda like the husband in a 50’s era sitcom to his little lady. Bless their hearts.
4Hey, we don’t need all the supporting forms and documents. I’d settle for three pages: the 1040, and Schedule A.
5Does Donnie have a dog? I’d like to be able to say something nice about one member of the Drumpf cartel. As for Uday, Qusay and Anorexia of the Mind, like their Daddy they require an industrial size epoxy cork to limit their orange tainted whine.
6My guess – his tax returns have already been hacked and the appropriate time to reveal them has been decided. An October surprise?
7Years ago, when Drumpf first threatened to run for president, his decision not to run was purportedly based on his reluctance to divulge his tax records. So now the tax issue has been gotten around simply by refusing. His pal, Putin, must have made Drumpf’s taxes off-limits for his government sponsored hackers.
8Investigative journalists, unite and find the smoking tax return.
I imagine Eric is right — I wouldn’t understand them. Not because _I’ve_ never paid taxes but because _he_ hasn’t.
@ bud maone:
Who would have hacked Trump’s returns? Russia? Putin wants him elected. Snowden? He hates Hillary and has been actively sabotaging her campaign.
While I hope you’re right, I don’t hold a lot of hope on that score.
9He is owned by the Russkiess and the Chinese. And has paid nothing for years.
10There’s a perfectly good reason that Hillary Clinton does not release every tiny bit of information about her health.
You would have a bunch of people who know nothing about diagnosis trying to look through and trying to come up with assumptions on something they know nothing about. It would be foolish to do.
Voters only need to know that a candidate’s health is likely to get them through the next four years in good shape. A past, healed concussion would irrelevant to that.
Tax details, on the other hand, show a candidate’s economic and ethical behavior over a period of time. They give us insights into how that candidate will behave in office. Tax records show us who the candidate does business with. They may show foreign entanglements and conflicts of interest. They show his/her charitable donations. It would be foolish of the voters not to see them.
11LynnN: Yes. But y’see, he doesn’t want to. End.
12Trump is afraid his super patriotic RWNJs will find out he’s in bed with the Russians, Chinese, German banks, etc. and when he loses they will pull all financing and wig-o will be bankrupt in his own right not his investors.
13Scumpf’s drooling followers would not understand his tax returns. They’re the Takers- welfare kings and queens. They don’t pay taxes. On the other hand, Democrats engage our brains and would have no trouble figuring out the important parts.
bud maone, I’m hoping for the same thing, by Anonymous. They’ve been awfully quiet, but I’m thinking they’re biding their time and refining the hack.
14There are only three possibilities 1) He is nowhere near as rich as he says, 2) He has paid very very little in taxes 3) He has been doing big business with REALLY bad people or countries.
15Lunargent, I’ve thought the same thing. Apparently his supporters think there’s some super form used by the super wealthy that the rest of us know nothing of and couldn’t possibly understand. Wanna bet he took deductions for his “charitable giving” on his [no] tax returns?
Anonymous, I too have been counting on you.
16When Trump finally shows us his Taxes, I promise to count every page, and if there aren’t 12,000 pages, I will demand an investigation into why there aren’t.
17So, Trump’s son thinks the public is as simple-minded as he is. Guess what, bucko?
18Can you imagine being a tenant in one of their buildings? Swindlers: each and every one of them.
19I agree with Lawrence O’Donnell. I don’t think he is under audit and want to see the letter from the IRS stating he is even under audit. Trump is a lying gasbag.
20gee, there’s lots of well versed, income tax professionals out here (myself being one of them). they would understand them, to the extent they can be understood, without the underlying source documents, and accountant’s workpapers, used to put them together.
something I’m just a tad confused by however, how did he manage to avoid being hit with the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT), specifically created to ensure that people, such as Mr. Trump, paid at least something in income taxes? so those forms/workpapers would certainly be of interest, to everyone.
21I don ‘t care much about how little he paid in taxes. I really want to know who he owes money too. Let’s see his interest deductions.
