Heckuva Job, Snydie!
Those Bushes can really pick ‘um.
Jeb! has decided that Governor Rick Snyder is practically an American hero.
“I admire Rick Snyder for stepping up right now,” Bush said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “He’s going to the challenge. He’s fired people and accepted responsibility to fix this.”
Bush’s praise comes as some are demanding Snyder’s resignation over the preventable disaster in Flint, where as many as 100,000 people have been drinking and bathing in brown, lead-contaminated water that the government previously told them was safe.
When everybody within jaw dropping distance wondered why Jeb! would say something so full of caca del toro, Jeb! stuck to his guns.
Bush held firm and said he’s impressed with the way the Republican governor is owning the issue.
Yeah, because he poisoned people. On purpose. He owns it because his name is all over it. In damn neon. Blinking.
And you know who else Jeb! admires? His brother. He broke America and now he accepts responsibility for … diddle damn squat.
Thanks to Sharon for the heads up.
Dawg spoke to me today. She says: “from the Pottery Barn to pottery fields with all the snacilbupeR, Bushes first.”
1Snyder is not stepping up to a challenge. He is stepping into a mess of his own making.
2@LynnN – And so is Jeb(!) – stepping into it arm-in-arm with Snyder. Is Bush so desperate for support that he’s willing to tie the Flint albatross around his neck in exchange for the Michigan governor’s backing? Quite aside from political leanings left or right, that’s just plain stupid. Stupid is not a qualification for the presidency. What would Eli Gold say?!
3The stupid is strong in Family Bush.
4Gov Snyder should understand the immutable physics of Holes, one Law of which states “When you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.”
5The more this guy talks, I’m convinced there is a strain of dumbness running through that family.
6Just wait until Snyder goes before Congress, I’ll bet he gets a lot of support there. Just sayin’…… Jeb, may have anticpated this and is looking to get support this way.
7@Micr
8The Republican rule of holes is: When you find yourself in a hole, not only do you not stop digging but you break out the power shovels.
I’d like to see all the politicians who claim the water in Flint is fine, and think the situation has been handled properly, get a months delivery of “Flint” bottled water.
“It’s Not Just The Water, It’s What’s In The Water!”
9“He’s fired people and accepted responsibility to fix this.”
Ya think, Skippy? Since he’s not taking responsibility for creating this disaster (which is his fault), it’s nice to know he’s going to “fix” it. Hell… it’s not like he’s the governor or anything. When he’s through “fixing” maybe he can fire himself. That should really fix things.
10What a nightmare for those poor people in Flint. Physical and mental problems for them and their children from the people who don’t believe in protecting the environment. Sleazy Snyder is at the top of the list. He’s got to go and Jeb! can sink down that hole with him.
11The following is the comment I added to a petition I signed calling for the Justice Department to investigate the Flint outrage in general but responding in particular to Flint’s actually having been harassing and threatening people with shutting off their water for lack of paying their water bills! (I could spend the rest of my life just dealing with petitions!)
I wrote:
Soon, I hope a class action will be brought against the City of Flint and the State of Michigan so both those entities will have to pay the poisoned citizens of Flint for the egregious negligence of state and local government in protecting public health. In the interim, it is unconscionable for Flint to be threatening citizens for not paying their water bills — and the toxic water should be turned off, if it hasn’t been already.
The government entities in question have a duty to protect a public water supply, and citizens have a right to expect their tap water to be free of toxins at a level that can cause harm or even kill them. The government agencies in question failed in that duty and, at the very least, should not be charging citizens for the luxury of being poisoned. The citizens of Flint were unknowingly forced to drink and bathe in toxic water due to the negligence and total disregard for public health by their State and local officials. Those officials should now be forced to eat the cost of distributing the toxic water. It would be nice if that included emptying their 401Ks. Actually, if malfeasance can be proved, some individuals should be removed from office and, depending on the evidence, thrown in jail.
12The only reason he is”taking responsibility”is because people are screaming from the rooftops. If no one had raised a ruckus it would have been swept away and the people of Flint would continue to suffer so the governor could save money for his corporate cronies.
13If you call “It’s a tragedy, I’m sorry, let’s move one” owning it, then I guess he did. I call that a vile attempt at a nothing-to-see-here strategy. One person has resigned. Snyder sent in the National Guard to distribute water: seven National Guardsmen for a community of 400,000+. Seven. They are still distributing bottles of water, apparently the size you buy to take along in the car. Why hasn’t the bastard organized tanker trucks of water to show up in those neighborhoods every morning and evening? He’s tried to blame the Flint city council, which didn’t work. Then he tried to blame the EPA, while also claiming that they have no authority over Michigan. Oh, and he’s also hired to PR firms because the most important thing to fix, the thing he’s really concerned about, is his image. Bastard. Sorry, Mama, but he’s poisoned children and I think you’d agree that is an occasion for strong language. In fact I think I’ll refer to him only by that word from now on.

“By Steve Neavling
Motor City Muckraker
The Flint water crisis that led to thousands of people being poisoned began because state officials maintained it would save the cash-strapped city money by disconnecting from the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) and using a different source.
But it turns out, DWSD offered the state-controlled city a deal that would have saved Flint more money by staying with Detroit.
An e-mail obtained by Motor City Muckraker shows the deal would have saved the city $800 million over 30 years, which was 20% more inexpensive than switching to the Karegnondi Water Authority.”

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/01/24/exclusive-gov-rick-snyder-s-men-originally-rejected-using-flint-s-toxic-river.html
“DETROIT — The emergency manager for Flint, Michigan, appointed by Gov. Rick Snyder in 2012, rejected using the city’s river as drinking water after consulting with the state’s environmental protection agency.
Snyder appointed Ed Kurtz to be Flint’s second emergency manager and Kurtz selected Jerry Ambrose to be the city’s chief financial officer. Both men were tasked by the Republican governor’s administration with restructuring the city’s government to save money after it was in danger of becoming insolvent. One cost-saving measure considered was to quit buying municipal water from Detroit.
In a civil deposition not reported until now, Ambrose testified under oath that emergency manager Kurtz considered a proposal to use the Flint River, discussed the option with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, and then rejected it.”

16While we’re on the subject of Republicans poisoning people, the GOP-dominated House voted last week to delay limits on mountaintop-removal mining, and then voted down a Dem bill not to delay the limits if it was proven that the delay would cause an increase in birth defects and cancers for people living near the mines. In other words, working people, the GOP does not give a frack about you or your children, and would let you be poisoned or die if it meant more money in the mine owners’ pockets. So if you vote for them, it can only be out of ignorance of what they’re doing to you.
17In addition, to get the uncontaminated bottled water that’s being handed out in the not-sufficient distribution centers, people have to show ID…which means the undocumented in Flint still can’t get safe drinking water.
18As usual, love to read your site, gives me a smile this cold winter morning, I was just reading Washington Monthly, a person commenting on that site compared you with Molly Ivens, in my mind, cannot be bad!
19And… now…. for whatever reason….. we have this:
http://www.rawstory.com/2016/01/michigan-militia-vows-to-take-up-arms-to-defend-flint-residents-in-fight-with-state-over-poisoned-water/
I got one nerve left…. on this “armed militia” mess…..
These people just got on that one nerve.
First, they wanted land….. now they want water????
20Miemaw, wait for it. This time the gun humpers may have stepped in it. They’re attacking a Republicon governor this time. It will be interesting to watch the snacilbupeR squirm their way out of this one. Should be an interesting skirmish, or as $carah would say: “squirmish.”
and for that bad pun, the WMDBS and patrons deserve a cartoon: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dV88JVwIK04/VqVmPWk5tvI/AAAAAAABY-k/kGtTso4j1Js/s640/tom%2Btoles.jpg

21I currently live within 3 miles of the Potomac River, you know, that river Bobby Kennedy said flows by appointment only. At one time many of us wondered why we were not allowed to use water from that river, running it through our treatment plants first, of course. The Potomac is actually not an object of industrial pollution like the Flint River or even the Detroit River. Agricultural pollution was part of the problem long ago along with government allowed waste dumping from treatment plants. Didn’t know about that last one, did you? All treatment plants all over the country are allowed a percentage of stumping into waterways. Its supposed to be largely because the treatment ponds at the plants are limited. Still glad local governments did not fall for that “use the river” argument.
22Decided that I should be clearer about water pollution in this country, no matter which or what river is involved, so here it is:
A Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) is a regulatory term in the U.S. Clean Water Act, describing a value of the maximum amount of a pollutant that a body of water can receive while still meeting water quality standards.[1] Alternatively, TMDL is an allocation of that water pollutant deemed acceptable to the subject receiving waters.
TMDLs have been used extensively by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and state environmental agencies in implementing the Clean Water Act by establishing maximum pollution limits for industrial wastewater dischargers. EPA published regulations in 1992 establishing TMDL procedures.[2] Application of TMDL has broadened significantly in the last decade to include many watershed-scale efforts. This process incorporates both point source and nonpoint source pollutants within a watershed.
23maggie: That’s because our fascist government is taking away our God-given right to enjoy cholera! The nerve!
24Ooohh, good story material.
25Now I wants to know why the AUSTIN AMERICAN STATESMAN is acting like Ted Cruz’ own personal PR paper.
Okay, back to Flint and other places with water issues.
PKM … thanks for those 2 cartoons … OMG
