Now Here’s a Country Song Just Waiting to Be Written
On Wednesday night, city commissioners in the coastal Florida town [Daytona] approved a measure that’ll allow a combination 12-lane shooting range and restaurant to serve booze to its patrons, the Daytona Beach News-Journal reports. While some commissioners were worried about promoting the use of guns and alcohol under the same roof, as well as the nightmare of monitoring who might be a possible felon, only one voted against the proposed gun range, which should be open for business sometime in the next few months.
So the next time someone asks you, “Is there even one sane man in Daytona Beach, Florida?” You can answer, “As a matter of fact, there is one.”
Thanks to Paul for the head’s up.
Great! Get drunk & shoot someone in the same place! Tips better e good.
1Corinne – Well. At least we won’t have to worry about them drunk driving to get to the guns. Might actually save lives, or at least be a wash.
I’m amazed that any business is willing to take on this kind of liability risk. Their insurance agent must be having fits.
2Just one more reason why I won’t ever visit Florida! Seriously, do these people ever think that they are ruining the tourist business with their lame-ass decisions?
3If this is successful, can a combo golf course / shooting range be far behind? There’s such an expanse of underutilized space on the typical golf course, just begging to be put to good use.
Local politicians golf free!
4Isn’t Daytona Beach the place college kids go for spring break? Can’t wait for some drunk frat bros to liven things up there.
5I wonder if the FAA will make that a no-fly zone?
6I fear there are NO sane men in Daytona Beach. The lone NO vote was a woman.
7glf: not too many Spring Breakers anymore. You’re probably thinking of Panama City. No, the thrill will be when the 50,000-plus bikers show up for Bike Week. Yipeeeee….
8A number of years ago, a friend and I were discussing unusual restaurant concepts. We came up with Alcohol & Firearms. And laughed and laughed. Some joke, huh?
9Can’t imagine this will appeal to the over 65 crowd seeking the early bird special.
10expect Florida will pass some “tort reform” laws to protect people who give loaded guns to drunk people. I mean, who could have foreseen any problems??? (Aside from the few sane people in the area.)
11Whew! I looked up Daytona and it is clear on the other side of Florida – and way, way north of Saint Petersburg. Proving once again, the farther south you go in Florida, the farther north you go. Down here, we are far saner than our northern cousins.
That said – please, please, Rick Scott [aka the worst governor Florida has ever had – and that’s saying something (ahem – Bush – ahem)] DO NOT pass some law exempting this joint from getting sued when the obvious happens. Just do not do it.
12For some reason all I can think of is the town in “Blazing Saddles,” Rock Ridge.
13Are you sure there isn’t already a country song about this? Possibly including a hound dog, a pickup truck and a cheatin’ woman?
14My sister and I drove over to Daytona one day past the auto racing venue, and the most noticeable thing about the town was the large number of billboards advertising booze, and bail bondsmen.
15Rick i ironed a few balls but, conceptually you’ve given me a driving game i never thought of. ? seems like Mega-english off the tee …………. woo hoo
16They’ll probably serve that drink called “America On The Rocks”.
17I may move down there and open a combo gun shop/shooting range/divorce office.
18Maryelle wins the internet today!
19Another country song was written in the One Star State today. It’s got the three B’s…Bubbas, bullets & bagpipes
Los Vegas is taking bets on the odds there are three more B’s in the mix to be revealed as the days progress: booze, bibles and bigots
