Yes, Because His Name Ends in a Vowel

November 02, 2013 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Okay, so the rightwing scream machine got a rumor started that the United Nations was going to take over the Alamo if we get it granted World Heritage Status.

the-alamo-san-antonio-tx104And you wanna know who the rightwing blamed for this? Jerry Patterson, the Republican Land Office Commissioner who has control of the Alamo?  No.  Rick Perry, the Governor of the state that runs the Alamo?  Nope.  The Daughters of the Republic of Texas who run the day to day operations of the Alamo?  Wrong again.

The person they blame for this is Mayor Julián Castro, who has nada, diddle squat, nothin’ to do with the Alamo other than he lives in the same city.  They call Castro “a liberal who believes in a global society.”  Plus, he’s the only one they could who has a foreign-sounding last name.

San Antonio, Texas Mayor Julián Castro is currently negotiating with the United Nations to designate the Alamo as a UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Site, meaning that a blue UN flag may fly above the historic shrine of liberty once it falls under UN control.

Caca del toro.

Thanks to Maggie for the heads up.

  1. Texas minorities should definitely remember the Alamo when the next election comes around.

  2. We all know that the right-wing will lie, yes. But what concerns me are the folks who believe this big old heaping caca!! 😉

  3. Sam in Kyle says:

They should remember the Alamo is the symbol of a group that was fighting for the right to continue to own slaves. Suprisingly they don’t mention that fact in Texas history courses.

    3
  4. and how funny that Jerry Patterson had to swat down this right wing freak out do-dah (Alex Jones)

  6. Name ending in a vowel? Perfect pigeon for blaming? Just wait until they turn on SantA Claus.

    Good grief.

dumb bass dubya ends in a vowel. Just saying. 🙂

  9. Alex Jones’ “Info Wars” is the erudite blog which makes these erroneous claims. There should be a Campaign to correct his false assumptions in no uncertain terms.

Maryelle, I agree. I call it plowing a fire break. We need lots of plowing of fire breaks these days.

  11. These people are dumber than bags of hair.

    11
  12. Angela, somehow “dumber than bags of hair” gave me a mental flash picture of Rick Perry…. Plenty of other candidates for the title, but he was first in my mind. And I’m not even a Texan.

  13. shortpeople says:

They could always privatize it and sell it. They could sell bleeding foam half fingers. Or sell it to Ozzie Osbourne. I hear he had a use for it (where were all the patriots when that happened?) Weren’t the people who fought at the Alamo illegal immigrants rebelling against the legitimate government that had overlooked the fact that they didn’t always keep the bargains made that allowed them to stay?

  14. e platypus onion says:

Here’s another that ends with a vowel-Ted Cruz. He is American(AM), he is Canadian American(CA),plus he’s Cuban American(CA) and descriptively so he is AM CA CA.

  15. For you folks who live in foreign countries…(outside of Texas), what had me more upset about Jerry Patterson’s political stunt than anything….. was the desecration of a Mission.

The Alamo is the first Texas Mission…. ever. Been here a long time. A couple hundred years or so. It was a place of refuge.

The State should put The Daughters of The Republic of Texas back in charge of the Mission, so it is accorded the dignity it deserves. And it is kept from cheap political stunts a la Jerry Patterson, and the NRA.

  16. John Peter Henson says:

Have to disagree with you on this one Miemaw. The DRT were bad stewards of this site. Letting parts fall in to disrepair and putting thier own importance over the site. My mother (former President of the Texas State Historical Society) never liked this group. They were picky about letting historians view and study artifacts stored at the site. The current steward is no better.

    16
  17. John Peter Henson is correct. DRT spent some of the money raised at the Alamo for a building DRT was working on in Austin. One year they spent only a couple of hundred dollars on maintenance of the Alamo. They knew for years the roof needed work, but they wouldn’t take care of the problem. They were very unprofessional in their management of the Alamo and on fund raising.

  18. I’ve been to a couple of dozen World Heritage Sites. I don’t remember a blue UN flag at any of them. I don’t thing the Russians would fly one over the Kremlin, for example. There’s none at Yellowstone or the Statue of Liberty, either.
