Rebel With a Legitimate Cause

November 02, 2013 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Meet Jason Thigpen, a 36 year old University of North Carolina graduate and Purple Heart winner who lives in Holly Ridge with his wife and four children.

Thigpen_jasonJason was a Republican.  In fact, he was running for a congressional seat as a Republican until he started raising waves on the sea of tranquility.   Jason decided that he didn’t want to be eating out of the same feedbag with people who “promote hate and division amongst people.”

Jason switched parties.  He became a Democrat and lo and behold, he’s a Democrat for the same reason we all are Democrats:  We not only love America, we love Americans.

He he goes —

These legislators, acting under the guise of the religious right and morality believe themselves to be the divine judge but according to the Bible, there is only one judge. They say they’re for a smaller government and individual rights while pushing legislation for more government intervention and regulation usurping our right to choose for ourselves. They take money away from the public school system so they can call it broken, only to give the money to their charter schools that are really private schools, just so our kids don’t go to the same school as theirs all the while giving some great speech trying to convince us it isn’t segregation. Right. But all along, they seemingly want you to believe that you have a choice – like ‘cake or death.’

He sounds like a bona fide down home Democrat to me!

Welcomes, Jason.  Take a seat – preferably in congress.

Be social and share!

Hope he’s as good as he sounds. We need lots more like him.

  2. Xecky Gilchrist says:

I’m happy to see that Republicans are switching like this and saying supportable things. We have to be sure they’re going to vote for stuff other than tax cuts and deregulation, though, because it looks to me like the next step for that agenda is to abandon the Tea Party and take it to the other side of the aisle.

  3. Lorraine in Spring says:

First, let’s hope this is true and he is honest & trustworthy. I wouldn’t put it past the Repubs to run their own as a D at this point. With the GOP internal war, they might be planning a coup within a coup – get R’s elected any way possible because they can still vote as a conservative.

Good Lord, am I getting a little crazy over these people? I need some rest.

    3
  4. Normally, I wouldn’t ….. because normally I don’t have it to do…. but I think I can find some loose change somewhere to send to this guy, to help him get elected.

We not only need more Democrats in Congress, we need some guys, who are veterans, who know what war is all about, and probably aren’t that crazy about it.

Welcome to the Democratic Party Mr. Thigpen.

and everybody knows rethuglicans hate regulations……except when they can use them to control women’s reproductive lives or exclude Democratic voters or any number of illegal, immoral stuff they want done to promote their religious extremes. Good luck in Carolina Mr. Thigpen.

  6. W. C. Peterson says:

I think the way to combat Gerrymandered Republican seats and voter restrictions is to register as a Republican but vote as a Democrat every election. I don’t think Independents have the same privileges Republicans seem to give members of their own party. I know Republicans don’t respect Democrats at all. So, if all progressives register as Republican, maybe we can actually change them from within instead of fighting them from without.

    6
  7. W.C., there is also the delightful idea that you will drive pollsters and Karl Rove right out of their tiny minds!

    7
  8. Marcia in CO says:

I’ve read what Mr. Thigpen has written and yet I have that naggy little thing that says: Wait and see!!

Despite the wonderful words they say, the proof will be in their actions. Are they trustworthy? Is this all a ruse to make us believe they’ve really changed? We shall see.

    8
  9. Wow! This story put a smile on my face. Hope more and more folks follow his lead…

    9
  10. I’m with you Marcia. There is a pol (female, sorry her name escapes me,) in Alaska who was elected as a Democrat who switched upon being elected, lots of people there are really annoyed about that. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if there is a new plan to do just that within the R party, obfuscation is not unknown there.

  11. Kay Carrasco says:

Okay, looking a gift horse in the mouth a little, but the man needs either a better writer or a better proofreader. That is almost unreadably comma-phobic. Good sentiments, yes, but not well said. On the other hand, it’s North Carolina; it may not matter all that much!

    11
  12. OK. I’ll bite. Where can I find more info on this guy. He really should just naturally have the support of veterans, including specifically Wounded Warriors. And he should be ready for Swift-boating from the opposition who eat heros in public.

    12
  13. I am with Loraine and Marcia. Not exactly ready to buy. Sounds promising though. He is better than the current rep (Walter Jones).

    13
  14. Vote Vets has a Facebook page.

Because I’m not the “shy” type…. I sent them a message, and asked if they knew anything about him, and if they were supporting his candidacy.

I’ll wait to hear back before I hit the “Contribute” button on either one of his websites. He has two. At the very bottom of the one that’s linked here, there is another link to his other website. Maybe he forgot to take it down.

It’s interesting. Might want to read both.

    14
  15. Wa Skeptic says:

I kind of wish he’d gotten elected and then changed, like so many R’s have done in the past.
I’m with the poster @3–I’m a bit leery of him. I do wish him lots of luck.

    15
  16. e platypus onion says:

JaneE-that weaselette’s name is Lindsey Holmes and there is a recall petition out on her.

    16
  17. Booman’s take on Mr. Thigpen….caution is warranted.

  18. Elizabeth Moon says:

I worry about Elephants in Donkey suits, having voted for one years back in Williamson County. as soon as sworn in, he switched.

    18
  19. The Republicans have been disgusting for at least the past two decades and even my ex-brother-in-law who hated Clinton with a passion turned away from them over 12 years ago, and it’s just now this guy is seeing the light?! I don’t think I’d jump on his bandwagon so quickly. Sounds a little too opportunistic to me.

    19
  20. Mr. Thigpen’s sentiments sound sincere. It is a
courageous move to take a stand and speak the truth about the Republican party, the party of hate, greed and stupidity. What I can’t understand is why the rest of the “RINOS” aren’t running screaming from that group as well.

    20
  21. Extra points for him for quoting Eddie Izzard’s “cake or death”. Love this guy already.

    21
  22. Will the last sane person out the GOP door please turn off the lights? The people who will remain like things obscure.

    22
  23. Marge Wood says:

Lorraine, current events are enough to make us wonder if we’re going a little crazy. Be particularly watchful of folks who hear voices and say God is talking to them.

    23
  24. Constance Reader says:

He is also, obviously, an Eddie Izzard fan. This speaks well for him.

    24
  25. North Carolina weighing in. I think Marcia in CO is right. This guy changes parties but says nothing about his platform has changed? Well, if THAT’s the case, then what’s the change about besides a media splash and self-aggrandizement? I’ll believe he’s a real Democrat when he starts campaigning on raising taxes on milloinaires, restoring cuts to SNAP and education, and finally, FINALLY, putting some of the Wall Street jackals behind bars. Talk is cheap. Let’s see some legislation, son.

    25
  26. I’m impressed. He quoted Eddie Izzard!
