Trump’s Trade War Claims Another Victim

August 09, 2018 By: El Jefe Category: Trade War Based On Lies

There are no factories in the US that make televisions any more.  There is one factory, Element Electronics, that assembles mass market televisions from imported Chinese parts, but that will come to a grinding halt in October.  The company simply cannot survive in Trump’s trade war where their made in China parts are now being heavily taxed.  During the campaign he complained that “we don’t make televisions in the US anymore”;  well, now we don’t even assemble them in the US.  Once closed down, it is very difficult for a company to come back on line.

All of this winning is sure doing a lot of damage.

  1. When are the rubes gonna figure that out?

  2. People, face it everything will not be Made in USA. We live on a planet. Yes solar panels are made in China but Americans install them on your house and when needed service them! I am very proud to wear my winter boots designed in Canada but made in China with my American made socks. I live in the Northeast old enough to just remember when manufacturing left here for the South then went overseas…it happens.

  3. So after October when the Made In The USA TV plant closes down, we’ll only be able to watch Russian News (Fox) on Chinese TV’s?

    Who’s the globalist?

There’s a lot of bad news floating around, but here’s the way I look at it: my week is going better than Paul Manafort’s.

  5. The Golden Gibbon will not relent nor repent on this issue because none of these tariffs directly/immediately impact him. As for the rest of us, he can’t and won’t hear us.

My best friend in college graduated with a ton of debt and a desire to attend law school. She got into a Washington state law school who promised to help her get by with work study and stipends. The work study job was at the adjacent medical school and involved emptying the poop and pee trays between layers of lab animals. She is a bit over 5 feet. The top tray was about 7 feet from the floor. She wore a rubberized uniform, gloves with gauntlets, eye protection and a hood over her head. She sloshed many trays.

In 50 years of employment I never had a job nearly so bad. And Manafort would prolly trade her even if he could.

On the first day this was announced to the public, one of the state’s pro-Trump mouthy politicians (sorry, cannot recall which one he was) was bemoaning the loss of this mfg….and….he stated that this county has lost 5000 construction jobs already because of tariffs.

Uuf da. In my various jobs the poop and pee which rained down was metaphorical, not literal.

  9. As I understand it:
    Nixon opens trade with China.
1970s-2000s – manufacturing leaves the US.
Then the era of service jobs, contract jobs, the death of most union jobs, and the death of healthcare/pension/leave.
Now we have part timers, and Gigs. Most of the populace can barely feed and keep a roof over their heads.
Retail and restaurants are going down because a lack of disposable income that support them.
And finally..finally they figure out that we have no industry?

    9
  10. Choices.
We buy from China, Vietnam, etc because their labor is so poorly paid.

If American wages continue to drop, we’ll buy less and sell more, but the greedheads running factories will skim off the increased income.

If everyone makes as much for their labor as Americans, they’ll buy more stuff than the ecosystem can endure. More pollution, more global warming.

  11. So when is Trump going to bring the jobs that make his products back to the US??????
Ivanka closed her factory down before she brought those jobs back.

The Onion had a story recently, titled “Ivanka distraught after learning detained migrant children completely without sewing machines”.
    I love The Onion.

  13. P.P., that sounds like the perfect Onion story. I’ll have to check it out.
