And Maybe This Is Reason #5,432 of Why I Hate Republicans

August 15, 2018 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

So Republican Bekah Halat is running for the Alaska State Senate.

Bekah is damn mess.

Halat and her husband, Jarek Halat, were charged last week with one count of felony theft for allegedly collecting more than $10,000 in food stamps that they shouldn’t have qualified for. They also face one misdemeanor charge for misleading a public servant.

Yeah, they were both working, living in a $280,000 house and paying a $2,000 a month mortgage, but they really needed that extra $662. a month for food. So, they lied about their income.

I expect Republicans to steal.  Hell, that’s almost something they list with pride on their campaign materials for the primary.

But, the Republican behavior is what I find amusing.  Halat blamed her opponent for her theft.  She claimed the criminal charges (which say she admitted to being dishonest and asked to repay the food stamps) were “false allegations from those trying to steal the election.”

“People have learned a lot about me, but there’s a lot more they have to learn if they think I’m going to just curl up in a ball and let someone else represent me and my district through attacking my family.”

Shuddup.  Just shuddup.

  1. Abusing the food stamp system.
    Stealing elections.
Now if she can only insult, or lie about immigrants we’d have the Republican trifecta.

    1
  2. Alaska? Another grifter? Excuse me! An unrepentant grifter. Arrogant as all get out. Please tell me she doesn’t stand a chance at winning!

  3. Charles R Phillips says:

What’s her income? Alaska is notoriously expensive, as bad as NYC or San Francisco. $662 in food stamps ain’t much. She may be right.

  4. Rule #1 in the GOP playbook: when caught, attack your opponent and attack whoever discovered your crime for political bias.
I just read that Trump Tower in Chicago has been charged with environmental crimes for sucking in millions of gallons of river water daily to cool their HVAC and discharging it hot into the river, with no environmental review or permits. They claim the charge is due to political bias. Well, in that case it wouldn’t have a chance of being political if the place weren’t still OWNED by the damned PRESIDENT.

  5. Yes, Charles, Alaska is expensive. Nevertheless, lying about their income isn’t okay, no matter what. If they had a legitimate need, that would be different.

My daughter, a single mom working in an office, paid about that much for a small two bedroom condo in Juneau for her and her 13 year old son, and the payment was also just about the same. She manages nicely without food stamps on one income with a kid.

Fraudulent food stamps claims are one thing, but she really crossed the line when she claimed to have been Mrs. Alaska. She wasn’t. But her candidate website says she was, with a picture of her wearing the sash.

I think she learned her politickin’ skills from Sara “Liarpants” Palin.

  7. We know Republicans are good at theft but the real gall is that she demonizes and regulates AGAINST those damn liberal social safety nets which she admits ACTUALLY WORK to help get your feet back on the ground by her actually using them. Just another CONservative from The Ayn Rand school of self centered hypocrisy.

CONservatism – Privatize the profits and socialize the losses.

“the couple began collecting food stamps in March 2017 after Jarek Halat was laid off from his job at AT&T a few months before.”

    “Ayn Rand

You folks just don’t recognize a maverick who wants to get in there and shake things up for half a term. Frankly, I wouldn’t be surprised if the lot of you drive a Prius, eat kale, and have Tom Lehrer’s “Fight Fiercely, Harvard!” as your team theme song.

  9. slipstream says:

Charles R. Phillips: yes, Alaska is really expensive for visitors. Hotel room rates are astonishing. Car rentals are twice Florida rates, maybe more. Guided tours . . . well, you might just have to take out a second mortgage to pay for a three day tour.

We do soak visitors. We kinda like it that way.

But I live here. Bought a house; in an average Southern California neighborhood the same price house would have half the square footage and a quarter the lot. No state income tax. No state sales tax. No need to own a suit or a tie. And every October they give me a thousand bucks, just to express their appreciation for me living here.

Sure, avocados cost a lot more here than in Los Angeles, but overall it’s not all that expensive.

    May I tweet this gem?

    10
  11. “Piker. I stole millions from Medicaid and leveraged my profits to the Governor’s mansion in Florida. Now I am headed for the US Senate.”

    11
  12. Amateur.
A real Republican would have claimed that this just proves that food stamp fraud is easy and prevalent so when are we going to make it harder for those welfare queens to steal the taxpayers’ money?

    12
  13. The younger generation have not been taught about welfare queens. Harken back to yesteryear and glorious days of St. Ronnie of Santa Ynez, and his holy mantra of self-reliance and personal responsibility.
The moral failures Bekah & Jerak Halet are numerous. Living beyond their means and relying on an income from some fly by night company like AT&T. Worst of all their failure to be born with silver spoons in their mouths. It’s their fault they aren’t trust babies. Truly this is a case of poor planning.
The monthly benefit of $662 for a family of four should prove adequate, even in Anchorage. You won’t be eating steak, ice cream and avocados, but you should be able to afford chicken, pork, sausage, cold cuts and canned veggies; along with rice, beans, pasta, taters and bread. Eating better than many of America’s working poor.
It would appear that Bekah is just another Republican grifter from Alaska. So what else is new?

  14. fry1laurie says:

You can bet your ass they didn’t have to get a drug test to get benefits, either.

    14
  15. UmptyDump says:

So the primary is Aug. 21 and she’s due to be arraigned on Aug. 24. I’m looking forward to the followups on this!

    15
  16. two crows says:

“Yes, your honor, I did make false statements in order to get food stamps. But I woudn’t have done it if my opponent wasn’t a Democrat. So obviously it’s all her fault. So finding me guilty would certainly be a miscarriage of justice. I’m the true victim here because I’m a white Republican. Just ask Jeff Sessions. He’ll explain it to you.”

    16
  17. This is actually for the little gal I knew long ago who should know better but badmouthed anyone on food stamps for any reason. Nearly 40 years ago my hard working husband tried to apply for food stamps. Yes, working! Hard! We lived in a very expensive area in the oldest and worst house on the street so he could be closer to his work. All we could afford. Under the rules, our net adjusted income made us eligible. Yeah. Both of us college educated. Eligible for food stamps. When he went into he office to fill out the forms he was told he would most likely have a long wait for any kind of relief inasmuch as this office was putting our soldiers first. Our soldiers. Attached to the nearby base. The soldiers who had to live off base due to housing shortage on base. The rent relief helped to a certain extent but as I said the rest of the basics of life in the Rea were sky high. My husband walked out in dismay and went elsewhere to borrow money from a family member, something he always Sid he would never do. Bekah would probably be astounded to know how our fighting men and women are treated in the American economy. And as for the little gal of long ago, I asked her if she would ever give up her Social Security if she was so fussed at the food stamp program allowing people she deemed unworthy to participate. The same could be said by many mealy mouthed people about Social Security. Nope. She said that safety net was just fine by her. Have no idea what happened to her and her family but all I can say is good luck girlie I hope you grew up and your kids are decent. End of rant.

    17
  18. Live within your means. If you can’t afford the basics, like food, sell the house and downgrade to a rented apartment or room, so you can buy what you need. Some people would rather lie to get benefits than downgrade their standard of living.
It is hard to give up what you are used to, but some people have no assets to sell and no other way to get food. They are the ones who deserve food stamps, not the Repug grifters who grab what they can. good Luck, Bekah, the voters may not swallow your story.

    18
  19. Linda Phipps says:

It is evident that Bekah and spouse are co-valedictorians of the Palin School of Grifting.
