You Knew It Was Just a Matter of Time
I guess we’re lucky that it wasn’t the Virgin Mary on a biscuit over at Bessy Joe’s Diner.
Just hours after Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio made his first appearance as Pope Francis at the Vatican, Florida resident Jodi Guthrie snapped a photo of a stunning cloud shaped like an angel hovering in the sky over Royal Palm Beach.
.
Y’all, seriously, I think it looks like Mothman. And that scares me.
Those are bat wings to me.
1TINKERBELL!!!!
2Florida needs all the help it can get.
3For mysticism, I’m more intrigued by the seagull that perched on the Sistine Chapel smoke stack just before the white smoke signified the election of a new Pope. Was it a divine message that the pontiff would name himself after the humble patron saint of the animals? Maybe I’ll brew some tea today to see if the leaves are acting up.
4It kinda looks like the women’s reproductive tract to me, which in this case is even more appropriate than an than an angel.
5@Lorraine–your comment made me laugh out loud.
6Ralph – Just before the white smoke appeared, I saw something fly across over the roof vent. I ran the video back and played it slowly. It really didn’t look like a pigeon.
It looked like a bat. Nice fat one, too. They grow pretty big bats in Italy.
7UmptyDump – I didn’t read far enough before I commented… I missed something perching – I wish I had seen that.
But the thing that flew by? I still think was a bat. I played it slowly a couple of times.
Maybe they were all there – pigeon, bat, gull… interesting.
8Great photo of jet contrail at sunrise or sunset & maybe with a tad bit of help from PhotoShop. Almost called it jetsam or flotsam – good thing I looked it up.
9I’m sticking with Lorraine’s interpretation.
It’s a miracle and a sign: Instead of the Virgin of Guadalupe, we now have the Virgin of the Female Reproductive Tract.
But don’t hold your breath for Pope Francis to pay one bit of attention. The Vatican is just another corrupt male financial fortress like Wall Street. This pope will administer “social justice”? Sure he will–all except for poor female rape victims. There won’t be an justice for them, you can count on that. Justice and equality? Homosexuality–no. Pedophilia–willful blindness.
10I think it’s ‘shopped. And in case any of y’all are weak on your religious lore, old Nicky (see also the devil, Satan, etc) is an angel, too, albeit a fallen one. And that’s a pretty red lookin streak of angel-ly shaped whatever to me.
Judging by the news out of Fla of late I suspect that just might be the devil coming to claim his own…
11One can often see whatever one wants to see when viewing clouds, biscuits, rutabagas, whatever. Remember the postman on Cheers? All of which brings to mind the anecdote about the farm boy who enrolled in a seminary to become a preacher. When asked what possessed him to think he was ministry material he reported seeing a cloud that formed the letters GP which he understood as God’s command that he, “Go preach.” A professor replied, “Son, God was telling you to ‘Go plow!’ “
12It looks like a vagina to me.
13When I saw the picture of the seagull sitting atop that smoke stack … I was thinking the new Pope might go with the name: Jonathon … as in “Jonathon Livingston Seagull” as in the book by Richard Bach written so many years ago!
Not being Catholic, I was really hoping it would be the Black guy from Ghana … just someone else to put the Right’s britches in a pinch!
14The new pope is from Argentina, he’s chosen in Italy, but the angel shows up Florida? If the photographer thinks it’s an angel, then it must be a male angel, ’cause they don’t stop to ask for directions.
15“V” for Vendetta
16The seagull makes more sense than any of the ludicrous things they did to get to that point. I still am shocked that so many people believe all that pomp and pageantry nonsense. Seems to me if they claim to know so much about their imaginary god, then it shouldn’t have taken more than a minute or two. I somehow don’t see how a puff of smoke can signal any kind of intelligence……..well, maybe for seagulls.
17It DOES look like what I think an angel looks like but I’m sayin’, don’t clutter up your brain with what folks will have to drool over.
18I’m not about to diss people of sincere faith, so long as it’s not oppressive and authoritarian to those of us who have differing viewpoints. Nor am I disturbed by evangelists who spread their message through the carrot and not the stick. Let us see what the graces are that Pope Francis can bring to this troubled world through whatever capabilities he may attribute to divine inspiration. There is always a place for fundamentally good people who try to make human existence better, whatever their personal philosophy and belief system. I was impressed to learn today that the RC Church is the single largest source of human services and social programs in the United States outside of government sources. As with almost every human welfare organization, the number of dedicated, selfless participants far overwhelms the misbehaving minority. Despite all the problems and divisiveness plaguing Roman Catholics today, let’s not forget those who have always aspired to goodness.
Seagull or no seagull.
19Nicely stated, Umptydump.
20I think it was a very beautiful cloud formation and a great photo. Could we just leave it at that?
21Umptydump: An eloquent expression of positive thinking and
