Y’all, Greg Abbott Changed His Mind

October 04, 2013 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

He’s not running for Governor.  He’s running against Barack Obama and “California Style Government.”

Seriously.

Okay, so everybody in Texas is white and so old they shouldn’t buy green bananas.  And they love Fast Cars and Firearms and the Freedom to kill innocent bystanders with them.

Thanks to Kyle for the heads up.

If only we could bring Texas to California style government.

  2. I live in California and we are doing much better.

Of course, at this point the Dems control all state offices, have 2/3 majorities in each branch of the legislature, and just got a proposition passed by voters that raises taxes to balance the budget.

We are thinking of listing Republicans as an endangered species.

If the lugubrious piano music were just a little bit louder, we wouldn’t have been able to hear ol’ Greg at all.

“Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose.” Kris Kristofferson — Me and Bobby McGhee.

    BTW, Kris is from Brownsville.

  4. I have to say, I was completely flabbergasted this morning at my exercise class. I introduced myself to a woman who’d been pointed out to me as a fellow Democrat. She smiled and said yes, she was. Then I said, “Aren’t you thrilled?” And she said, “About what?” I said, “About Wendy Davis!” She frowned and said, “I don’t like her.” WTF? I asked why and she said she “didn’t know enough about her.” I replied that I liked her better than Greg Abbott, that’s for sure. What the hell do people want? How can a Democrat NOT like Wendy Davis? Although, she did admit to being in a “mixed marriage” (my words) with a Republican. She said she can’t put a pro-Democrat bumper sticker on her car because it would “hurt his business.” Gah.

  5. Can anyone find a non-white face in this ad?

  6. He’s not even pretending to be racially inclusive. He’s playing to his base: no mention of education, poverty or immigration.

Careful TTPT, your left inclined friend may be speaking truth! Here in very white bread College Station I have to be very careful about who I talk politics with and where. My truck is very anonymous, too; I get to choose my battles, and I don’t get everybody worked up for no reason at all! It is still true that you win more flies with honey than you do with vinegar; I have had three in-depth discussions with very conservative clients this week-that’s three more that are going to give the ACA a real look that might not have done so otherwise. Their angry bafflement always becomes, “Why isn’t anyone talking about this in plain language?!”

I tell them the answer to that, too!

I was just over at chron.com reading the comments on the article on Wendy running. From the nasty hate comments, I think we just may have them worried. Women vote, and that scares them.

  9. Infrastructure?! Shouldn’t he show a paved road being chopped up and converted to gravel?

    9
  10. I suspect there will be a lot of “mind changing” between now and November, 2014.

    10
  11. All that syrup could make you sick.

    11
  12. Marcia in CO says:

Michele … I thought the same thing as the wonderful freeways were being showed … where’s all the roads that are supposed to be graveled? Guess they only wanted to show the sickenly sweet icing on the Texas cake rather then the “true” picture!

It would help if everyone would start referring to the Affordable Care Act as the ACA rather then Obamacare since people seem to be more open to that then hearing anything that has “Obama” in it … the human rejects are all for the ACA but don’t want no part of that there Obamacare!

Dear Sweet Jesus … it all just makes my head hurt!!

    12
  13. Marcia in CO says:

Oh … and I didn’t know that Barack Obama was running for anything else once his presidency was over and done with! I suspect the only thing he’ll be running for is to the sanctity of his own home in Chicago … where, hopefully, he can find some peace and quiet with his family.

    13
  14. You’re right, Aggieland Liz. Around here there are so many Republicans, we Democrats have a secret handshake and use the password “The owl flies at night” to identify ourselves when we get together.

  15. Betty @ Georgetown says:

Hi, W.C.: This is OT but, tho’ Kristofferson wrote Me and Bobby McGee, the best singer was Janis Joplin (from Pt. Arthur)! Re the video, all I heard was “blah blah blah Turn Texas Blue blah blah.”

    15
  16. The mixed marriage comment reminds me of the time when my husband was a college student after leaving the Air Force. Like many student families we weren’t overburdened with money and only had one car. We usually agreed, but in one election we supported different candidates, I think for a Senate seat. So we had a bumper sticker for one candidate on one side and for the other on the other side of the back bumper. People seeing it probably wondered.

    16
  17. Dang, that had so much syrup on it, flies were sticking to it.

    17
  18. I SAW THE NAFTA SUPER HIGHWAY IN THAT AD. Y’ALL ABBOT SUPPORTS THE NAFTA SUPER HIGHWAY !!!!!!!!!!

    18
  19. “Obama and his allies”? Does he mean the majority of the American people that voted our President in? Those allies? Like me – a Texan? Am I the enemy now? Good Lord, I didn’t know war had been declared, officially.

California-styled government? You mean the state that just raised minimum wage? Yeah, can’t have it where folks might earn a living wage.

@TTPT – that woman doesn’t like Wendy Davis – “I don’t like her but I don’t know anything about her”? How stupid people are – how can you dislike someone you know nothing about. My heard hurts now.

Obama is too young to fade into obscurity. I have a feeling he will do something like Clinton did, some sort of world initiative.

    19
  20. Sorry – that ad just mad me mad. Wendy should run an ad about West, Texas blowing up, due to no restrictions.

  21. e platypus onion says:

Music was suited more for a mortuary, but nutters are so dumb they probably think a mortician is a government agent that counts morts, therefore is an Obama socialist. Abbott fits the rw major political stereotype to a T- rich and White and got his wealth through dubious means. He got his and helps pull the rug out from under others.

    21
  22. In 2012 I put an Obama/Biden sticker on my car. I live in a pretty conservative district & was afraid my car would be trashed. It was not. And the state & my district went for Obama. I was pleasantly surprised. Every little thing you do can make a difference. I admire you, Aggieland Liz. Keep trying to inform people. But, sometimes you’re just talking to a brick wall.

    22
  23. Did it bother anyone else that the part about job creation showed a roadside BBQ shack that of the mom & pop variety? Nothing against that, but barbeque shacks aren’t exactly going to save our economy.

    23
  24. “Hardworking conservatives will beat Barack Obama and his allies every time.”

I guess that’s why Obama’s never been elected to anything.

    24
  25. Timbo, you can certainly catch more flies with syrup than with vinegar, but what you end up with is a bunch of sticky flies.

    25
  26. Angelo_Frank says:

Amazing how the ad manages to jam so much ‘red-meat’ into a mere 1:29 minutes of time.

    26
  27. Lisbeth Echeandia says:

I almost fell asleep (and would have nightmares no doubt) with that ad. It’s awful. It’s a creepy ad. He doesn’t sound like he could ‘create’ anything – no energy, no plan, just another no Obama stuff. California-style? I wish we had that in Texas.

    27
  28. Lisbeth Echeandia says:

I won’t put any bumper stickers on my car either. I work for a group of local radio stations in sales and it would not be smart to put bumper stickers on my car. Not everyone believes in that kind of ‘freedom’ 🙂

    28
  29. Lisbeth Echeandia says:

Agree on the BBQ shack. Weird.

    29
  30. Marge Wood says:

Aw. Bless his heart. Everyone I’ve talked to who plans to vote for Abbott is against Wendy’s abortion filibuster. She is going to have to make lots of noise about other issues too.

    30
  31. Miss Prissybritches says:

If the Texas Legislature passed a law that said before a man could get a vasectomy, he had to go in the day before the procedure, submit to an invasive body cavity search with an ultrasound probe, watch the film of said ultrasound, take a stack of brochures home to read on the evils of birth control, then come in the next day, have a counselling session about the evils of having a vasectomy, BEFORE he could actually get the procedure… there would be a huge outrage. Folks who will vote against Wendy because of the abortion issue are missing the point, and we have to educate them. Politicians make crappy doctors.

    31
  32. Thank Goodness for the secret handshake and the code … I need it ….Living Blue ….

    32
  33. Miss Prissybritches — there wouldn’t be a huge outrage. Unfortunately there would just be even fewer men than now getting vasectomies. I can’t think of anything they could do to men that correlates with what they do to women who want an abortion. Maybe because there are so many options to men to solve their various issues while there are only 3 ways to get un-pregnant, and only one is a joyous occasion, only one is a choice, and all 3 are painful. That’s why men can make it even harder on a woman who has to make the choice to abort by making her jump thru these additional hoops — there’s no alternative to “turn the tables” on men.
