Ya Heard it Here. Maybe Not First, But You Did Hear it Here
They are right about President Obama playing chess while the Republicans are playing checkers.
And who is going to be Secretary of Defense – Republican Chuck Hagel.
In 2005, he began criticizing the George W. Bush administration, comparing the worsening Iraq war to Vietnam. When then-Vice President Dick Cheney said the Iraqi insurgency was in its “last throes,” Hagel told CNN, “Maybe the vice president can explain the increase in casualties we’re taking… If that’s winning, then he’s got a different definition of winning than I do.”
Over the next few years, Hagel’s criticism of Bush intensified, and in 2007, he told Esquire:
“The president says, ‘I don’t care.’ He’s not accountable anymore… He’s not accountable anymore, which isn’t totally true. You can impeach him, and before this is over, you might see calls for his impeachment. I don’t know. It depends how this goes.”
John Boehner is going to the White House this afternoon. I suspect they’ll tell him then that he’s been screwed.
Thanks to Kary for the heads up.
Wow! Just. Wow.
1Barack Obama is a smart cookie. Unfortunately we live in a country where half the population despises anyone with brains.
2Oh, I’m gonna love this!
3I’m still sweating Sec. State. Rice pulled out and Kerry is needed in Mass. Somewhere here someone? JJ? suggest Bill Clinton-works for me.
Hippie in the Holler.
4That’s going to one to follow…and, yes, I did hear it here first.
5That’s going to BE one to follow. Got too excited, I guess.
6Don’t forget what happened to those who tried to stand in the middle ground while placating both Democrats & Republicans. Poor Lieberman gave his 20 min. goodbye to an almost empty room with a few friends who care about him stopping in. Sorta reminds me of “Inherit the Wind” when Brady gets into a final rant after the judge adjourns as all the press & bystanders ignore him. Timeless play made into a movie in 1960 & remade into TV films 3 times in 1988, 1996 & 1999.
7I expect the Prez to lift some nebbish to the SOS spot and no one will be able to complain.
8Jon Huntsman? That would keep Kerry in the Senate….or maybe Bob Kerrey, with his Medal of Honor would rain on John McCain’s parade.
Susan Rice would make a great SOS for Hillary. Hehehe
9Bill Clinton for Secretary of State!!! Perhaps the Secretary for Explaining Things can explain to some of our allies and enemies why working with us is better than working against us.
10There’s is no point in telling Boehner he’s been screwed. They would need to write it out in crayon. Bright colors, not pastels. Short words. Big letters.
Republicans these days are awfully good at denying anything they don’t want to believe.
11Please don’t make Boehner cry! LOL! Has Colin Powell rested long enough to go back to State?
12Hello my loved one! I want to say that this post is awesome, nice written and include almost all important infos. I’d like to peer extra posts like this.
13I would like to see Richard Lugar as SOS. Extremely bright, pragmatic as anything and it would make the Repubs heads implode. Those heads cannot explode; there is nothing in there to expand.
14gabberflasted, what a brilliant idea! The Republicans chosen for the cabinet thus far have been good choices and excellent examples of non-partisan cooperation. Maybe those Repubs who don’t implode will learn how to play with the grown-ups from people like Lugar and Hagel.
I learned something last night I didn’t know. John Kerry saw President Obama make a stump speech when he was running for Senate in 2004 and chose him to make the Keynote Speech in Boston that launched his National political career.
Everybody is so worried that Scott Brown would win a special election for Senate. Actually, Elizabeth Warren just beat the snot out of him by 7 points, and there is a Democrat out there who is very popular in the state and wants to run and has a 3!/2 million dollar war chest.
Brown can scare up maybe 1/2 million and has a loser sign on his forehead. MA is far more used to having two Democratic Senators and the only reason Brown won was that Coakley was such a lame candidate. Even then Brown didn’t beat her by much.
15Kerry, Clinton, Lugar, Kerrey = all old white guys!
I want someone 20 years younger – closer to Obama’s age. SOS requires tremendous travel, not to mention the stress, & both age a person. Besides, it’s time to move away from Clinton’s broad reach into Obama’s administration now.
Since global economical concerns dominate, the SOS needs someone with that experience as well as foreign connections that is a master negotiator.
Before y’all start punching me for being ageist, let me remind you I am 68 – not ancient, just old.
