  1. Sandy Havens says:

Well, after all, according to that old saying, “A woman’s place is in a binder.”

    1
  2. This comment made me laugh –

    Romney, Lord of 3 Rings

    2
  3. Oh, it gets better, (you knew it would).

Just one little itsy, bitsy problem with Mitt’s “Vote for me ‘because (as they put it over at The Daily Kos)’because- binders!” pitch. As David S. Bernstein explains, it’s “B*!”

“What actually happened was that in 2002 — prior to the election, not even knowing yet whether it would be a Republican or Democratic administration — a bipartisan group of women in Massachusetts formed MassGAP to address the problem of few women in senior leadership positions in state government. There were more than 40 organizations involved with the Massachusetts Women’s Political Caucus (also bipartisan) as the lead sponsor.

They did the research and put together the binder full of women qualified for all the different cabinet positions, agency heads, and authorities and commissions. They presented this binder to Governor Romney when he was elected.”

    http://blog.thephoenix.com/BLOGS/talkingpolitics/archive/2012/10/16/mind-the-binder.aspx

Mitt Romney did not go out of his way to look for women. He did not ask for anybody’s help. He did not say, “Well, gosh, can’t we — can’t we find some — some women that are also qualified?” (Do you think he realized that he just publicly admitted that he has surrounded himself with a bunch of guys who would not dream of suggesting that a woman be included in their club?)

The women came to him. They told him he needed to hire more women. And you know what he did, right? He gave no senior (read important) positions to women. Not only that, under the Romney administration the percentage of women in senior level positions declined. I don’t know about you but I am just shocked!

There is a reason he did not respond to a simple question by saying I support the Lilly Leadbetter Act – it is because he DOESN”T.

I think the 47% just got bigger.

  4. TexasEllen says:

You know someone is impervious when he manages to attend Harvard University and Grad School, to work for years at Bain Capital for twenty plus years, and to lead an Olympic games without ever discovering any competent women and having to lean on binders thrust at him.

    4
  5. Sandy, Norma, Texas Ellen, I immediately shared your comments with my neighbor (we are laughing over coffee), who shook his head and said, “Dude, has put his foot in it again!” To which I replied, “Yep, and this one’s going to stick. Kinda like 47% on a silver spoon.”

As bernstein says: “…note that in Romney’s story as he tells it, this man who had led and consulted for businesses for 25 years didn’t know any qualified women, or know where to find any qualified women. So what does that say?”

    5
  6. Don A in Pennsyltucky says:

Following to what Deb said about not knowing any qualified women, apparently Mittens has caleld Bain was a small business when he said ” I came through small business. I understand how hard it is to start a small business.” I think what he meant was a small-minded business.

  7. Puh-leeze, Juanita Jean! This just has to go viral! Its too good to stay in a small circle of friends!

    7
  8. Best tweet I’ve read so far:
Obama – Women are increasingly the breadwinners.
Romney – I let women off early so they could go home and cook dinner.

    8
  9. Juanita Jean says:

Maggie, small? Are you calling my circle small? Honey, I got big hair and big circle.

    9
  10. penelope roberts says:

he didn’t want women. they have no value except as breeders in the mormon cult. and the rest of his staff? who’s taking bets they were ALL mormons?

    10
  11. I just put this on my Facebook page!!

I did not watch all of the debate last night … I couldn’t deal with Romney’s smirky face for another 90 minutes and all those lies … the continuous stream of lies that pour out of his piehole! However, I would click back and forth every so often just to catch snippets and watch if Barack was speaking! Oh, he was good last night!! Loved what I did see. But did not catch the very end where, evidently, Romney wouldn’t even shake Barack’s hand but, rather, turned his back on the President! Whut the …. !!! Total disrespect … but it’s what we’ve come to expect from Mitt the Lyin’ Twit.

    11
  12. Don’t forget the tumblr – http://bindersfullofwomen.tumblr.com/

Personally, between that and the “get home to cook dinner” line, I kept thinking of this image: http://www.sangrea.net/free-cartoons/social_foot_binding.jpg

    12
  13. Barbara in Houston says:

One of my facebook friends had a photo of Patrick Swayze saying “No one puts baby in a binder.”

Cheryl, love your quote – I’m stealing it!

    13
  14. Actually, the binder statement never bothered me–it was the other message mixed in…that when you have women working for you you have to make concessions – like “reasonable accomodations for the disabled.” It is offensive that this man who wants to be a world leader acts like women are the only one’s needing flexible hours and dealing with “family demands.”

I don’t know why I am surprised…whenever “family values” are being mentioned it is a hurrah to June Cleever and other iconic TV family’s that require a rigged-out DeLorean to actually find a world where they can function.

    14
  15. Mitt Romney is a proud member of the Mormon church, an organization that classifies women as inferior to men. They don’t even get their own planet when they die. In fact, in many ways they are a sort of property.

    15
  16. aggieland liz says:

Hee hee, Star, you confused the Aggie! I was trying to imagine on what planet Ward would buy June a DeLorean and was she even allowed to drive??? HELLO! Back to the Future reference, for those of us who are movie and video challenged… 😀 what an A$$ I am!

    “Finding The Truth In Eldorado”

Note the reference to the Joy Book, which must be something like binder full of girls, and which might somehow relate to Mittens’ binder full of women…?

    ***
…in two days of child custody hearings, a judge heard testimony about underage girls giving birth and arranged plural marriages.

“The majority of marriages that we’re aware of happen between 14 and 16, said Flora Jessup. “However, we do know of marriages that have occurred to as young as 8- or 9-year-old children.”

Jessup escaped from the FLDS 22 years ago and is now a CBS News consultant. She says marriages are arranged by their leader, whom they call a prophet.

“All the girls’ names are added into this book called the ‘Joy Book,’ and the prophet goes through and gets revelation from God,” explained Jessup.

Marci Hamilton, a church and state scholar at Cardozo Law School in New York, is an expert on childhood sex abuse. She has one word for it: pedophilia.

“They’ve created a society in which it’s appropriate to have sex with girls as young as 13,” said Hamilton. “And also, it’s an organization that operates on a patriarchal system, so that men are in charge; women are subservient; and the children are beneath the women.”

    ***
And I’m guessing that women are ALWAYS beneath the LDS men, one way or another…

    17
  18. Maggie: Not to worry. This story was posted on Daily Kos this morning and is going viral through sites like this one and Facebook.

    18
  19. SomedayGirl says:

Willard couldn’t just leave his offensive commentary on women at binders and flex time, either…anyone else hear him blame single moms for the epidemic of gun violence? If only more of them were married, THAT would fix the problem.

You can flex time that junk right up your binder, Mitt.

    19
  20. Aside from the fact that Mittens is a sociopathic lying misogynist – I do not understand something which I cannot get off my mind:

I’m 58 years old, have been paying into SS since 1968 when I lied and got a job at 15 at the local KFC – nobody checked back then. I have worked continuously throughout the years…….

Mittens is 65 years old and worked ONLY 25 YEARS of his entire life. That really, really bothers me – what the hell else has he done other than using taxpayer money for BainBS, OlympicBS and Romneycare of MA?

    20
  21. Sam in Kyle says:

Back when I was born again, and again, and again…..I remember hearing a woman in church describing herself as “a stay-at-home mom as God designed”. I’m guessing that’s the kind of mentality Mitt has working for him.

    21
  22. SomedayGirl says:

How did I leave the caboose off the Mitt Belittles Women Train?

“We’re going to have to have employers in the new economy, in the economy I’m going to bring to play, that are going to be so anxious to get good workers they’re going to be anxious to hire women.”

This sure seems like a backhanded compliment. Or maybe just a backhand.

    22
  23. No, SomedayGirl, I caught that, too. Employers will have sooooo many jobs available that they will hire even subhumans like monkeys and women.

    23
  24. daChipster says:

Want to be buried in a deluge of pink binders?
    Please proceed, governor.

Enjoy the taste of your own shoe leather on national TV?
    Please proceed, governor.

Tired of keeping up this charade of a campaign?
By all means, Please proceed, governor.

    24
  25. What gets me the most is that none of the Tea Party men seem to know what this is about.

The classic lower class household during the Gilded Age (and there weren’t any middle class households to speak of) was – a man at home, often drinking, totally unable to find work. And women and children working as many hours as they could pack in for almost no pay.

When the Kleptocrats can hire 2 women for the cost of less than one man – what makes these eejits think that isn’t exactly what will happen?

Except at the top levels, of course. A woman in charge? Please.

    25
  26. Sandy Havens says:

Deb, I would like to copy your background piece on “binders” and post it on Facebook. Or would you post it? If you do please let me know so I can share it. Folks need to know that bit of history.

    26
  27. Sandy, you are welcome to use it as you see fit. I am one of the few lone humans who does not facebook.

As I said, the information came from http://blog.thephoenix.com/BLOGS/talkingpolitics/archive/2012/10/16/mind-the-binder.aspx the credit for the research and link should go to them.

While you are at it folks, try searching you tube for “binders full of women” – the Internet, in addition to “being a series of tubes,” is such a wonderful fun thing!

    27
  28. Why are there no women in that obnoxious photo of the Bain Partners with the stolen booty hanging out of every suit pocket? Well there’s that odious equal pay issue!

    28
  29. Check out this site. I laughed so hard my face hurts.

    29
  30. You have to read the binder reviews on Amazon:

    http://www.amazon.com/Avery-Durable-Binder-EZ-Turn-17032/product-reviews/B001B0CTMU/ref=cm_cr_dp_see_all_btm?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1&sortBy=bySubmissionDateDescending

Someone on DailyKos said Staples had to disable comments on their binders.
