  1. IOKIYAR.

Like some guy was recently arrested for being on the White House grounds and “spouting nonsense.” Apparently if you’re inside it’s okay, especially if you’re rich.

Actually one of the recent bits of news that’s upset me the most is Trump’s claim that if none of the US intelligence agencies helped Obama wiretap him, maybe it was the Brits. HOW can we have a president so freaking delusional that he thinks an American president can get the British version of the NSA to wiretap an opponent for him? My mind boggled so hard that it went out for a long walk and hasn’t come back yet.

    1
  2. I don’t think he really cares. His base and supporters sure don’t.

In their world there is no such thing as an exonerated Clinton or for that matter any Democrat. To them it is simply a matter of how they “got away with it” not whether they are innocent or not.

    2
  3. Unfortunately Rubio and the Cult Conjobs live in the Land of Self Serving Self (the New Trumpism) and besides the obvious evidence, will deny saying anything of the sort.

    3
  4. Maybe the person under investigation by the FBI (Trump) should ask the person not under investigation (Hillary) to fill in until everything is all cleared up. Like maybe in four years.

    5
  5. Jane & PKM says:

Marco. He’s back! FL re-elected a guy who said he hated his job. Not to belabor the obvious but; FL voters his job is to represent you. See the problem?

The new ‘norm’ in the age of Donnie and alternative facts: “I never said that” despite video/audio evidence to the contrary.

  6. @ Alan,

It occurs to me that the obsession that the Clintons must be guilty and just got away with it may really reflect on GOP culture. Think about it, if you, and everyone around you, seems to be involved in shady deals–after all, why else go into politics–then it is natural for you to assume ALL POLITICIANS are guilty of illegal activity. So Dems must be guilty and if we just push the investigation we can confirm that [their mindset].

    7
  7. This was going on to a lesser extent during Darth Cheney’s 2 terms. Tea bagger/wingnuts believed there was WMD despite the clear proof that there was not. Most of them still believe that. That kind of wilful denial is just becoming more widespread or known or pervasive or stoopid or ridiculous or . . . . .

The only way to convince most of them that their guy is a scum sucking evil liar is if the guy completely, fully and publicly admits it over and over again. Even then the especially delusional ones won’t be convinced.
    Sad!

  8. Rastybob says:

Wait till the GOP base find out that Trump was put in office by liberals as part of a plot to make the black guy look good.
OH— and its working, I miss him more every day.

    9
  9. Mid terms could end up being a real 4 cornered brawl.
cj just threatened R’s with primaries if his tax cut labeled as health uncare bill does not pass. This coupled with rising revulsion even among the delusional with this group of crooks suggest a round of primaries and potential 3rd party runs.
Meanwhile on the D side the incompetence ( example failure to field a candinate in Penn. House race in D district PA197 th- choosen establishment candinante disqualified by not living in district. – Gross incompetence) and disassociation of the establishment party from D electorate as manifested with strong arming their puppet perez in to office looks to be agitating the grassroots that should foster a number of primary challenges from grass roots.
I will support those primary challenges.
Add in bogus candinates ( i.e. Jill Stein) and false flag candinates and it will be hard to tell the players with out a scorecard.
Once again it appears as if the D’s are insisting on seizing defeat from the mouth of victory all in the name of keeping those unworthy Progressives from taking over the party.
Establishment D’s – rather a fascist tea party official then a progressive.

    10
  10. @Rhea

Of course you make a good point.

I would add that it seems to me that NSA and GCHQ have enjoyed an especially trusted relationship for many years, to the benefit of both the US and UK as well as to the others of the five eyes. Drumpf added an element of distrust by lying implication about GCHQ. It was clear to me from Adm Rogers’ body language during yesterday’s televised IC hearing that dealing with this lie has cost. Ultimately the cost of this lie might never be known, but clearly Rogers and Jeremy Fleming have exchanged pleasantries about it.

    11
  11. I don’t understand where this idea that the Dem party isn’t progressive comes from. This is a list of Senate Dems:
    http://progressivepunch.org/scores.htm?house=senate

As for the Presidential race, Sanders was only slightly more progressive than Clinton based on their comparative votes in the Senate. https://fivethirtyeight.com/datalab/hillary-clinton-was-liberal-hillary-clinton-is-liberal/

Dems/progressives need to stop circling the wagons and firing inwards. The enemy is outside.

    12
  12. The stablishment D’s have to stop behaving as though they own the party and cheating to keep a grip on it to protect thier corporate paymasters.
    Examples.
DWS is a creature of the right and having her as DNC chair was an insult to any thinking person. Her replacement confessed to giving hrc questions of debate in advance. The TTp was a establishment bill and hrc’s late denouncement of it was hardly believable. Shoving perez down the throat of grassroots activists who then put a advicement board together that was what 25 corporate d’s and 2 progressives was no way to show anything different.
Having Shumer a wall street owned and operated senator as majority leader hardly inspires confidence in the d’s legislative arm espiacially when he came out after the election and said he was looking forward to cooperating with the cj.even allowing rahm to call himslf a d is an insult to the memory of Harry Truman and the progressive wing.
The last two D presidents, by their own admittance, were closer to a rockefeller rethuglican rather then a Mc govern or Eugene McCarthy D.
When the establishment d’s support reactionary’s running as false flag d’s instead of the r’s they really are ( i.e. lyin arlen spector) they show their true colors. Even this last election they recruited at least 3 r’s who changed their registration after being promised the d nomination ( i.e. Florida senate) and they still lose. Virginia Gov race where the stablishment candinate admitted to voting for the twit from texas in 2000 and again 2004.
They continually use the contribution to enrich their “consultant friends ( bob schrum – did he ever win a race?) while starving progressives of funds needed to win races.
Tell you what bounce scrum, rahm, and others off any DNC board, or secondary committees ( DCCC, DSCC) have either Whitehouse, Warren or Franken as majority leader while demoting the present panel of manchin, shumer and others into the back benche and we can talk.
Amazing how the establishment d’s always find a way to demean and belittle progressives (rahm’s hippie punching) but just like their rethuglican teachers bemoan and whine if anyone strikes back.
Cowards and paid hacks is what they are and thats how they should be treated.

    13
  13. Tilphousia says:

Palm Beach is whining about how much cockwomble cost every time he plays golf there. They want Federal (taxpayer) help to defray costs. That’s a haven for billionaires. Let their taxes be raised to cover cockwomble costs. Then maybe they will THINK before they vote. Mario Stupidio is just an example of rethuglicans refusal to come into the real world. They blame everyone else. Till it hits home.

    14
  14. Democrats need unity to overcome Republican corruption an greed. All the finger pointing and name calling needs to stop.
Compromise within our party and strategic planning to field electable candidates combined with the invaluable experience of veteran policy makers and the horrendous mistakes of the Trump administration will enable us to take back the White House and Senate. Let’s learn from the Republican bickering factions. They are accomplishing little, which will be our fate if we descend into these kinds of divisions.

    15
  15. Maryelle
“Let’s learn from the Republican bickering factions.”
    yes let us learn.
Since the rise of the Tea Party after the 2008 election with the primary challenges to established candinates the thuglicans have won the 2010 election cycle, the 2014 election cycle and the 2016 cycle.
They have gained an overwhelming in state house and legislatures across the country and now have control of the the 3 branches of the federal gov.
Granted much of this is because of gerrymandering but for state wide races, such as Senate and governors, that would have no effect and yet they still have won.
    Possible Conclusions:
    1) Voters will vote for a real rethuglican rather then a rethuglican lite running as a D.
    2) The american public is dumber and more venal then could be imigined in our worst nightmares
    3) Voters respond to some sort of stated position, inane as most of the tea party positions are, rather then a platform saying we aren’t the other guy ( elect us we aren’t rethuglicans)
    4) Establishment d’s are afraid to seize issues and positions because of fear. Pot legalization is a classic example establishment d’s ran against it in many places, the fight for $15 where were the d’s except to offer milquetoats alternatives that barely helped the workers but sure as h— protected the owners.

Other conclusions are possible but start with those.
It is because of political ineptitude and ineptitude of establishment d’s addicted to chasing that sweet corporate cash as they stumble down the path towards irrelevence that has created a grassroots challenge.

  16. Jane & PKM says:

K, please. While a considerable portion of what you say is true, and another portion deserves serious consideration, it would be more helpful to progress if you didn’t on occasion flavor your words in Teaspeech. There’s no denying we all have frustrations with government and politics, so let’s work on the problems.

To be fair, let’s define and discuss Teaspeech. To begin “Her replacement confessed to giving hrc questions of debate in advance.” Not exactly or even close. There is a good possibility that meme was sent to us courtesy of the bot program finally being addressed by the media, although most of us have experienced it at various times in the past months. While I’m not big into conspiracy theory, if it smells walks and talks conspiracy, I’d examine conspiracy sources like Breitbart, Alex Jones and hate radio before accepting any pronouncement as to authenticity. Or, possibly a bot put that one out there.

How bad is it? Have you ever been questioned as being a bot or a concern troll? Yes, K, the Russian intrusions into our electoral process were that bad. With 2018 and 2020 to come, we need to be questioning our Congress varmints as well as the multiple ‘national security’ agencies on what exactly they have planned for improvements in our cyber security and risk assessment beyond $billion dollar collection depots of metadata.

    17
  17. Well according to Snopes Brazile did in fact pass on questions before Bernie / hillary town halls.
please do not try to besmirch me with insults such as “engaging” in teaspeak. In fact denying reality because it is contrary to ones prejudices is the height of teaspeak.
As for being a concern troll that is like has anyone ever accused you of beating your wife( husband).
In fact this is a classic example of type of projection used by establishment d’s to avoid engaging in a discussion on the issues by denigrating and dismissing any critics as bots, concern trolls of ignorant.
    Thank you.
    You just proved my point.

    18
  18. K says, you are posting as if you own the Dem party and should dictate how it works. Not so.

Establishment Dems have a lot of power in the party because they are establishment Dems and it is a political party. It is not a public organization–it is a private one and it is allowed to make its own rules and choose its own people. It is not surprising that establishment Dems favored Clinton, a long-time party member and supporter, over Sanders, an Independent who changed titles in order to run.

If you don’t approve, you should consider establishing your own political party. You have every right to do so.

    I wouldn’t join it.

    19
  19. Agreed that party is private org.
But a private org trying to convince voters that they should support a platform/ agenda.
The establishment d’s are being dishonest when they put forth a public agenda and then torpedo it in private.
If you wish to see the D’s go the way of whig’s, Know nothings and other failed political orgs that have vanished into the dust of arcane history ( though it could be argued that the teaparty/ rethuglicans are resurrecting the Know Nothing) so be it.
What that would mean for the country and world would probably be disastrous as the institional impediments to building a new party are enormous.
So yes if you feel that the stablishment d’s “own” the party and can run it as a piggy bank for friends and engage in “hippie” bashing to prove that they are VSP so be it.
But that attitude and dishonesty is a recipe for political extinction and failure to stand up for their electorate.
Wasn’t this the same arguement that the klan put forward against FDR and others who would disrupt the cosy sinecure the “insiders” are benefitting from?

    @LynnN
    @Jane & PKM

Folks I’m not gonna piece out the argument here, except to offer a third view, a synthesis if you will.

The Dem party at every level is in trouble. Miz JJ said as much in her first post following the November 2016 election in which she solicited new ideas and new people. As time has passed I amongst others have posted the same thought, that the Dem party at the national level is in trouble and in Texas may border on extinction. If Mizz JJ and others like her in some of the populous counties can resuscitate it there is some chance of survival. In other counties where I have interests and so spend my time there: Collin and Hunt, occasionally Denton and Grayson, I opine to you that you could hold a Dem convention in the coat closet of the average Park Cities McMansion and have room to spare. There may be no, zero Dems in Collin county.

Likewise my mother’s family, panhandle ranchers for generations now spread south almost to San Antonio are mouth-breathing snacilbupeR. Same for the line of sharecroppers from which my father sprang. There are dang few Dems in Lamar and Red River counties. My little bride and I may be only two when we pass through.

What does this mean? Well it means to me that the national party and the individual state parties have a heck of a lot of work to do and soon. As I have said, Dems need to reinvent NOW. They need to post candidates NOW. They need to win elections in significant numbers at every level beginning the next local election, whenever that is. If Dems don’t do exactly that they will slowly but inevitably go the way of those parties named above.

    Hear Hear.
One definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result.
So hiring the same old hacks ( i.e. scrum) with fat paychecks will just guareentee further losses.
Having the same people, like perez, rahm and manchin, be the face of the d’s is a formula for political extinction.
Cutting deals that sell out the d’s constituency such as they are exploring on doing with this gorsuch is a good way to show that the d’s aren’t serious about fighting.
Why support the party if it sells you out first chance they get.
If the D’s want support and votes they have to show that it is a two way street and that they will support those that put them in office.
Surrender is hardly an inspiring message when you want to recruit new people.
