White Privilege

Okay, so that karma-kicked Martin Shkreli and he got arrested for stock fraud.

He has a co-defendant in the case, his lawyer Evan Greebel.

greebel_evan-300x404So, it’s Christmas and times are tough for everybody.  Except Evan Greebel.

Both Martin Shkreli and his co-defendant Evan Greebel were arrested by the FBI last week, but Greebel gets to fly to Cancun for a family vacation before he heads to court.

According to his motion, he booked plans for the 10-day trip this past spring. In addition to his wife, he’ll be traveling with his three young children, his mother-in-law and father-in-law and another close relative. He has already put up his home in Scarsdale as part of the $1 million bail on which he was released, and would lose the house if he flees while out of the country.

Okay, so the court lets him put up his house for his $1 million bond.  This is a guy with probably about $20 gazillion.  Yeah, he’s going to come back to collect his one million dollar house.

So, think about Evan Greebel soaking in the sun this Christmas while you freeze your tail off and try to pay outrageous drug prices.

Thanks to Bryan for the heads up.

  1. Yes, but isn’t anyone with a net worth of $1 billion or more automatically innocent of any charges due to the Affluenza Doctrine?

From the photograph it appears that Evan needs help properly adjusting his tie. Surely there are some ladies at the WMDBS who will volunteer to ‘adjust’ his tie for him. Volunteers?

He was restricted to travel only in parts of New York. Did he buy Mexico? His bail was 5 million originally,I believe. Must be christmas time,eh?

I agree with both Aggieland and Sam in San Antonio and with Rhea because it is definitely a slur on sharks!!

  10. Oh I see the point of the judge’s compassion clearly:
Why should not an attorney, co-conspirator apparently, get to enjoy the benefits of his ill-gotten gains with those closest too him before he goes before the court? What should irritate us all is the likely hand-wringing scene with the prosecution after attorney Evan is found guilty about “He’s spent all the money he stole. How can the prosecution be expected to recover stolen money if the criminal has already spent it?” Well here’s one way: Don’t allow him to take $100k plus vacations with his family. Knuckleheads.

So the more you steal, the less penalties. If I stole $40 from a register because I needed money (unarmed, just grab and go) I would be in jail as soon as I was caught (unless I was black, then I would be dead). But if I steal millions of dollars and don’t even need the money, I can have business as usual until the trial to give me (maybe) probation. I have had the saying wrong, apparently it is “go big and go home”. Or on a vacation/escape.

My bad,I pantsed the wrong villain. Just remember judge, the affluenza drunk teen is still missing with his mother. You should have jailed the SOB,but wingnut compassion got the best of you.And now he’s gone and may be out of the country.

  14. One of the ineloquent pieces of unsought advice I got from an uncle upon receiving my BS degree was “Go to law school now and become an attorney” “Why, my degree is in computer science???” “Cause one lawyer can steal more than a hundred armed robbers.”

  15. Just a reminder that these two bozos are being charged with short-sheeting wealthy investors because your Justice Department did not give a rat’s ass about price gouging for medications.

    15
  16. What a fudgin’ travesty! The judge isn’t named, but he should be. He’s incompetent, or corrupt or both and should be removed the bench immediately. Bubba, it’s up to you.

    16
  17. I’m betting this bozo knows every single place on Planet E that does not have an extradition treaty with the U.S of A. and that the majority of his wealth is in a numbered account in a Swiss bank. When he does suddenly disappear with the entire family it won’t place him in any $$ hardship. He could live forever wherever he lands and never have to pinch a penny. No wonder he’s smiling and doesn’t give a damn about his tie!

    17
  18. I’m conflicted on this one. Here’s a lawyer who’s likely crooked and will eventually be tried and convicted and should ultimately be punished severely, but our system also considers him innocent until proven guilty. Bail bond is designed to assure that the defendant will be present for trial. Prior offenses, prior bail results, family, financial resources and flight risks are all considerations in granting and setting bail. Which leads me to this question, JJ. Your husband, Bubba, is a lawyer. Considering Greebel’s circumstances, what would he do if he were the judge deciding on bail?

    18
  19. Maybe they will be meeting up with Ethan Couch and his mother.

  25. Pick me! Pick me! PKM, I volunteer.

I think his tie needs to be tighter. Much, much tighter.
    And lower. Much, much lower.

    25
  26. Actually, it would be cool for him to seek asylum in a non- extradition country. I would personally think that North Korea would be a great bet as they would probably never give him back.
