What? No Known Famous Quote?
In the near-continuous TV coverage of the passing of Elizabeth II, I stumbled upon an observation that Elizabeth was not known for any famous quotes. I beg to differ. She was hilariously self-deprecating. Here’s my all-time favorite that can never be mistaken for anyone else’s words:
“I can never wear beige because nobody will know who I am.”
Hilarious.
An oldie but goodie:
“Hopefully someone tells him who I am.”
Queen Elizabeth, talking about the time an American hiker (who didn’t recognize her) asked whether she’d take a photo of him with her bodyguard because the bodyguard had mentioned he’d met the Queen. After a few shots she also had her picture taken with the hiker – – at the insistance of the bodyguard.
1“I’d love to be a fly on the wall when he shows those photographs to friends in America.”

Two good ones:
I have to be seen to be believed
Grief is the price we pay for love.
2How about?
3” Let us not take ourselves too seriously. None of us has a monopoly on wisdom.” Queen Elizabeth Ii
She had a very dry sense of humor (or humour). After an audience with the Archbishop of Canterbury she invited His Grace to help himself from the drinks cart. “May I pour one for you, ma’am?” he asked. “No, thank you,” she replied, “I’ve given it up for Lent.”
4Some nitwit on I forget which channel praised Charles the Dim for his poetic line; ‘flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.’
5Her Majesty made a pretty good companion for Paddington Bear when she joined him for tea, too. Thank goodness, devotion to duty and The Firm didn’t preclude having a sense of humor. I hope Charles inherited it.
