What Do You Get When You Combine Senile With Crazy?

October 26, 2012 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

John Sununu, that’s what.  One good thing though:  he can long longer accuse us of playing the race card.

When asked why General Colin Powell endorsed Barack Obama, Sununu had a ready answer.

Sununu: Well, I think when you have somebody of your own race that you’re proud of being president of the United States, I applaud Colin for standing with him.

Okay, on a 1 to 10 scale of patronizing, that’s a 42.7 – easy.

Second, here’s a follow-up question from Juanita:  “Honey, if Colin Powell is motivated by race, how did he ever be a Republican?”

Sooooo … we can only surmised that the only reason Sununu supports Romney is that he’s “somebody of his own race.”

Uh, I think we knew that all along, but it’s nice to have a confirmation, John.

  1. Exactly what I was thinking.
    Great minds think alike.

Yeah, well, Powell of course is supporting President Obama, there is no way a thinking, traditional Republican could ever vote for Romney.

However,he is also holding a butt load of guilt over his actions during the Bush Administration. I will never, ever, forget him in front of congress holding that little bottle of white powder and packing the GOP talking point lies to get us into war. And Powell will never forget that either.

  3. I believe I remember reading that John Sununu’s father was middle eastern (Arab?) and his mother is South American. It seems like if there is anyone who should learn how to be American it might be him.

@hedgewytch, I’ll bet he tosses around at night while thinking about it. If I had 100,000 people’s deaths to consider my part in I damn sure would!

  5. sirrah – from wikipedia (and we know how reliable they are!):

“Sununu was born in Havana, Cuba, the son of Victoria (née Dada) and John Saleh Sununu, an international film distributor of Rûm Palestinian descent who belonged to the Greek Orthodox Church of Jerusalem. His father grew up in the Ottoman Empire’s Mutasarrifate of Jerusalem in Palestine and his mother was born in San Salvador, El Salvador, as part of the mass exodus of Ottoman subjects seeking a better life abroad.”

Apparently both his parents are of middle eastern descent. And he was born in Cuba?!! Who knew.

  6. I have family and acquaintances who are voting for ABTBM (Anybody But The Black Man). That includes the supposedly educated ones. And an ordained Methodist minister (woman, no less!) who believes Obama is a MUSLIM. What a great excuse. You really can’t fix stupid. SIGH!!

  7. And when Sununu votes for Romney will that be because Sununu’s proud to have somebody of his own race being president of the United States?

After just reading your headline, I thought sure you were going with Louie Gomert . . . .

    Or Rick Perry.

    Or Phil Graham.

    Or Greg Abbott.

Or, well, maybe I just shouldn’t try to guess ahead . . .

Sununu, party of one? Your ice floe is ready.

  10. RA, try asking that Methodist preacher to prove to you or anyone that she is a Christian. As far as I am aware, the only way with main stream Christians can is thru testimony and actions.
If this holds true for her, ask her why the same standard is not allowed for Obama and then ‘Why?’ if she denies him that same standard. Any Biblical cites?
Secondary backup – what part does conversion play in any religion; ie, valid, invalid?
She should be held accountable for her hypocrisy. Hope you will be able to do that tho the thought can be unpleasant. But, isn’t that what the Sermon on the Mount is about?
I have done that with some former good christianist friends. The initial reaction is sorta like I shocked them with a cattle prod.

  11. Nan, thankyou for looking Sununu’s background. They just mentioned on MSNBC that he is a naturalized citizen. What a hypocritical creep.

    11
  12. Well, John McCain saw Sununu’s bid and raised it one by declaring Colin Powell’s speech to the U.N. responsible for causing the Iraq war. Ol’ Colin pulled the feathers right over the chickenhawks’ eyes with that one. Probably threatened Cheney, Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz with waterboarding to get his way.

It only took nine years for that to presumably break through the fogbank of McCain’s mind, because surely oh-so-ethical John wouldn’t make a remark like that out of spite.

Except that’s just what he did.

    12
  13. Could it be that Sununu is jealous of Palin’s popularity??? He has to know that he isn’t as cute as she is; not by a mile. In fact, he is the opposite of cute.

  15. Sununu is voting for Romney because they are both fruitcakes.

Actually the word was far more scatalogical but I want to stay on the good side of Momma

    15
  16. Van, thanks for the advice. I thought I had disabused her of that notion. Obviously not. The second time she said that to me we had already had a long day together and I lost it and said some things that JJ’s Moma would still be washing out my mouth over. 🙂 I will NOT let this go unchallenged.

I don’t know which is worse, the seminary trained minister or the history teacher (two masters degrees!) and long-time Sunday school teacher distant cousin who believes the fear mongering of a right-wing Talibangelist and is convinced that Islam will take over the country because our President has a Kenyan half-brother who is Muslim (!!). Doesn’t say much for her critical thinking skills. Or her belief in Christianity.

  17. RA, your trying is what counts. But how we approach this also counts; eg, locking horns with an ideologue is a waste of good time. IMO, a thought-out Socratic method of allowing the recipient to box themselves in to a ridiculous corner may be more preferable. Don’t expect an epiphanic moment but, like parents and teachers, done right we are really planters of seed that will take some time to germinate and grow.
We also expect to see immediate results – usually ain’t gonna happen.
I live in an area that votes over 90% repub and is above middle class economically with many educated inhabitants. When it comes to politics/religion (yes, they are now conjoined-at-the-hip twins), they are remarkably able to dis-engage their brains switching to a more primitive, ancestral portion.
Since their is so much material to work with, I try to pick my battles carefully or I will suffer more than the intellectual neanderthals.
