What A Unique Way To Get Famous
Robert Mercer is a cringe name to start with. It would be hard to find another man who has done so much evil with his money.
But this one takes the cake. Open Secrets has dug deep enough to discover that Mercer backed a secretive groups that worked with Facebook and Google to target anti-Muslim ads at swing voters.
And these ads were grotesque.
As the final weeks of the 2016 elections ticked down, voters in swing states like Nevada and North Carolina began seeing eerie promotional travel ads as they scrolled through their Facebook feeds or clicked through Google sites.
In one, a woman with a French accent cheerfully welcomes visitors to the “Islamic State of France,” where “under Sharia law, you can enjoy everything the Islamic State of France has to offer, as long as you follow the rules.”
Others featured beheadings, brown children with assault rifles, and other “be afraid messages.
Mercer and his friends went to all kinds of trouble trying to hide it, but Open Secrets tracked them down.
Have always liked Open Secrets. Its a fun read sometimes, especially when you have a few minutes to yourself. Very, very educational!
1During the Viet Nam war protests they arrested the planners of the protests for ‘inciting violence’. What happened to that law? ie: Bill O’Reilly’s continuum of Dr. Tiller the killer resulted in Tiller’s murder. The right wing’s incessant verbal attacks against gay, minorities, women, etc has resulted in many murders and violent attacks, Planned Parenthood attacks, mosque bombings, mass shootings time and again and yet no one is held responsible even when the perpetrator points to exactly who incited them to do something so despicable or inhumane.

It seems to me that it would be difficult for a prosecutor to convince 12 jurors at trial that a never ending stream of hate mongering over Fox and others resulted in some specific violent crime.
3Now, that’s interesting! In Canada you can find yourself convicted and doing time for aiding (however that is defined) in inciting a crime, etc. Would be interested in knowing the specifics and if it seems successful, how well that would go over in this country.
4Send ol’ Bob Mercer to Gitmo along with Bekah and that putz a$$ Zuckerberg. Maybe Gina Haspel can find a special place for them, if the Cubans object.
