Well, This Made Me a Little Crazy
From Vanity Fair.
Where does one buy a $91 million rabbit?
So, once you recover from the headline and read the story, you discover that Robert Mnuchin, Steve’s father, brought a piece of art by Jeff Koons to give to a hedge fund manager, Steve Cohen.
It’s like the biggest damn silver rabbit you’ve ever seen and it looks like balloons, and it’s worth $91 million. At least it was yesterday but now that people have found out it’s not like a real rabbit who can talk or something very cool like that, the price has probably dropped a little.
But, hey, you can buy it as a refrigerator magnet for a mere $249.
And then to add to my head spinning, Steve Mnuchin’s dad thinks Donald Trump is a dick.
He was near tears when asked about his son Steve and refused to comment about their relationship. But friends said that he is in an impossible predicament, conflicted over his sense of duty about being a loyal father and his concern as a citizen that President Trump is bad for America.
Hey, Robert, your son’s a dick, too.
Thanks to Bryan for the heads up.
Looks like money laundering to me. Who would use their own earned money to buy a piece of junk “art”. There’s also a possible capital gains tax liability if Mnuchin paid less than $91 million and the recipient of such an expensive gift would also have tax liability.
1$91M for THAT??? A fool and his money were parted there.
2At least 12% of the species on earth are in danger of extinction thanks to human activity, including tigers, rhinos, gorillas, elephants, giraffes, lions, polar bears, pandas, and a whole lot of others you’ve never heard of… and I’m sure you have your own outrages that could use the money… and some rich prick spends $91 million on a stupid silver rabbit. Just about made me upchuck breakfast. Sometimes I think the faster humans go extinct, the better.
3For one awful moment I thought the article was about Steve Cohen who was my Congressman when I lived in Memphis and is definitely one of the good guys. That was scary.
I wonder how much money gets laundered through the art market. There’s simply no other excuse for buying something like this, except at a garage sale.
4It’s not about the artwork.
It’s about outbidding all the other rich jerks for something with no practical use. The flaunting of obscene wealth frittered away. This is how some rich people whip it out and measure it. With a ruler or micrometer, as the case may be.
Or the money laundering theory is equally valid.
And Mnuchin Sr. is right to be worried about his son’s boss. Also, his daughter-in-law is Trophy Trash. So maybe his son’s judgment should be questioned.
5More proof that taxes on the rich are way, way too low.
As if we didn’t already know that.
6Just for 24-hours, Lord…. let me know what it’s like to have more money than good sense. I already know of someone I could copy-cat…..
7How many children suffering from serious medical condition whose parents are struggling to pay the medical bill, or senior citizens who cannot pay for their medications, or thousands of homeless vets sleeping on the street, etc., could have benefited fro that $91 million dollars?
It is so hard to believe that the Robert Mnuchins of the world think nothing of this obscene waste.
