Well, They Have Hacked Me Off Now

May 11, 2013 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

We have a gorgeous day here on the Texas coast and I am headed out to round up voters for my local school board election.  The Tea Party jerks sent out an outrageous email this morning, filled with lies.  They also raised an additional $10,000 from Perry Homes to use for attacks.  The most that’s ever been spent on a school board race here is about $500. This is a game changer for our little school board and it is not for the good.

If anybody is running a google search for Rodney Vannerson, he’s a bully and a narcissistic  jerk. And a damn thief.  And more.  I’m pretty convinced that he has cloven hooves.

I don’t know if we’re going to win because the rich Republican neighborhoods are turning out heavily but I am going to fight until 7:00 tonight.

I’ll let you know how it turns out.

Be social and share!

What all are you doing to turn out voters? You amaze me. Door knocking, phone calls, ???

  2. maryelle says:

Wish I lived there and could help. Best of luck in turning out the Democratic votes. You’ve got positve vibes coming from Pennsylvania.

  3. Juanita Jean says:

Right now I’m making more call list, Marge, and we have people delivering them to our older folks who can’t drop and drag. (Drop by someone’s house and Drag them to the polls.) Our stinky opponents are hiring people to do this. We are purely volunteers.

  4. Marge Wood says:

Wish I were there. Hope you get a lot of volunteers, the folks without whom our country really would be in worse shape.

    4
  5. Good luck, Juanita Jean! You have a hard job today, but I’m rooting for you.

  6. Cindy D. says:

Wish I were closer, I’d drive down and help. I’m praying for a miracle. It’s the best I got right now.

Crap! The voting location at Rosenberg City Hall is “down” and has been for over an hour. People have quit waiting and are going home. I live in a freekin’ third world country. Our Republican government here bought crappy machines. This is not the first time this has happened. Crap! Back to the phones.

    7
  8. 4 more hours. Good luck to you.

    8
  9. JJ, those down machines should be engendering a court order to stop all voting. Hope you have a good lawyer or lawyers volunteering with you. Down machines mean people have been denied their right to vote.

  10. Aggieland liz says:

What’s the major demographic in Rosenberg JJ? Wealthy white or, er, other?

  11. Karen Crosby says:

You are the vanguard of democracy in your neck of the woods. You go , girl.

    11
  12. Marge Wood says:

Be sure and let us know if anyone asks for photo ID from voters; that came up here the other day, again.

  13. Marge Wood says:

Someone just sent this to me. Really puts a bright light around WHY does Perry not want a health insurance exchange in Texas? or have I missed something?

With early voting in, 2 of our candidates are well in the lead, one is even-Stephen, and the fourth is losing.

    14
  15. Three out of four of the non tea party candidates won. The only tea party candidate to win was the lady who took the tea party money and then rejected the Whistle PAC the day before the election, I doubt that she will be supporting Dar’s and Vannerson’s agenda

The candidate in my district won by 6 votes. My daughter and I were two of the deciding votes. Every vote does matter.

    15
  16. Juanita Jean says:

Thanks, Kyle. I went to the victory party and danced so much that I completely forgot about yall.

Just a side note to folks in Texas: We had some Hispanic Republicans run for city council in my neighboring city. They got their rumps handed to them on a platter. The local Republican Party did not lift a finger to help them. A Hispanic being a Republican is a like a chicken being for Col. Sanders. The only race that a Hispanic won was the district where a Hispanic ran against a Hispanic.

Let us hope that a lesson was learned.

    16
  17. Ralph Wiggam says:

Congratulations Kyle, Horstman could not have been a better candidate to beat.

I pulled this quote from her blurb on the Whistlepac site.

“As a Lamar CISD Board of Trustee listening will remain my highest priority.” – Beth.

Apparently this former teacher believes that sentence is properly punctuated and that the board only has a singular Trustee. And she was running for school board?

Half a dozen people changed the course of your local governance. Way to go!

    17
  18. maryelle says:

Congratulations on the success of all your hard work.
It gives us all hope that things can change.

    18
  19. This is great news and shows what a few smart, hard-working people can do. Congratulations!

@Marge Wood, thanks for the link. Very interesting story, and I hope it’s repeated all over the country.

    19
  20. A big thumb of my nose and a middle finger to Perry Homes!

    20
  21. gramiam says:

High fives to your local Dems! The Tea Party and Fundies began their quest for control of our lives years ago with local school board elections and we know how that turned out. Nice to see them beat at their own game!

    21
  22. Cliff McSparran says:

Congratulations! Equally good news from here: Pflugerville ISD board members Mario Acosta and Carol Fletcher, who voted to make Pflugerville schools the first in the state to offer employees same-sex partner benefits, drew religious-right opponents. The mainly Baptist Texas Pastor Council circulated Pflugerville First Baptist Pastor Steve Washburn’s email telling members to “vote for the candidates who best represent and defend the Lord’s moral values as He reveals them in Scripture,” and that “we are to vote for the candidates who oppose” giving “immoral sexual partners” access to the district’s health insurance benefits. (Violating the tax-exempt status rules much?) Anyway….Fletcher won by 57% and Acosta with 54%. Also, Rick Perry, Bob Perry….I know there are some good Perrys out there somewhere.

    22
  23. Thank you to all of the voters who supported me and a special thank you to JJ for the great coverage on the whistle pac’ers and their antics.

It feels really good to do things the right way and still come out ahead regardless of how much the opposition lies, cheats and steals.

It is so satisfying to be allowed to work for the greater good of the district, the taxpayers and the students of LCISD.

Dar doesn’t know what he’s missing.

Once again, thank you to all of the voters and all of the volunteers who made this victory possible.

    23
  24. Grace Newton says:

Congratulations to all, Susan, local Democratic Party and the winning candidates – Great News!! Texas is Saveable!!

    24
  25. Oh, yayayayayay! so happy for you all! Every vote counts! say it LOUD AND CLEAR
